I have a wonderful manager at our local Running Free store who put me in Mizunos (I have a pair each of Wave Riders and Wave Creations). What a difference - for the first time in ages, my toes are happy! He had to talk me into them because I use the Nike+ system and like the way the shoe pod fits directly in the shoe, but I'm so glad he did!
Shoe companies make slight (or major) changes every year, similar to what car companies do. Usually you can find out what the changes are well prior to the shoe release, or at least research them when you need that new pair. That's what I did when the new adrenaline GTS 13's came out there wasn't much change so not much different in feel. But sometimes they'll do a major overhaul r even out right discontinue one model and create a new one.

See, so your time was quite a bit better than mine. If the person from disney sports is correct and I get moved to B with a time of 77 minutes (and some seconds..don't know off hand what I finished with...just noted my average pace) then you being done in 14 minutes certainly should put you in a higher corral. (or at least I would think) I think I saw the elite bibs were only the first 20...

My dh just bought some mizuno wave riders!

Shoes kinda fascinate me. what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another...
I'd say you are probably correct that you don't over probate as much, glad to hear you have a shoe that finally works! I wonder if the heel cushion could be because of the Nike+ pod cutout? I've never worn NIke's so I am not sure where the cutout is for it but I would assume heel somewhere.

If I had to guess Elite's are probably times under 1 hour, A is probably up to like an hour and a half, B up to 2 hours, C up to 2:30 and then D would be everyone else (no Ike submitted or someone put the 2:40 max). I put 1:30 as my estimated and am in A, but my sister and her husband both put 2 hours and are in B. Just a guess on my part of course.

Very interesting... I'm in C without proof of time; I put whatever the shortest time was that could entered without proof. I'd think having run Disney 5Ks before might have something to do with it, but I ran those s l o w with my son, so I don't think that would do me any favors, lol!

No ideas, but I've found the same thing. Arch support insoles in my Newtons = good. The same insoles in my Mizunos = bad.

I wore New Balance for years - nothing else hugged my heels as well. And then they changed things up, made the heel roomier; haven't been able to wear NB since.

Yep...this is what I'm sadly finding out about my beloved Cumulus. I'm not liking the new 14's at all. I've got one pair of 13's that only have about 75 miles on them, so I've got a pair that I like for a while at least...but I like to rotate 2 pair between long and short runs, and I'm just not getting used to the new feel of the pair of 14's that I bought. Today I'm giving my new Brooks Pure Cadence a trial run on the treadmill for a mile or two to see if I may want to make the switch. I'm concerned though that if I like them, is it unwise to rotate those in with a completely different shoe...the Cumulus 13's that I still like...at least until those are worn out and I can get another new pair of the Pure Cadence?

Anyone wear Asics Cumulus (women's size 8.5) and looking for a good deal on a pair of the 14's? They only have 17 miles on them, and I promise they don't smell funky!! I didn't buy them from a running store that has a liberal return policy for runners...just a regular sporting goods store, so I can't return them now that they've obviously been worn outside. I didn't think I was going to have an issue with them since this is like the 6th pair I've had!!

I can't believe we are so close! I am going to have to walk the whole thing, short of a miracle DH is going to walk with me, he's amazing. However this was to be HIS race, his first race, RUNNING, so if he chooses to run I will be fine with that! We are both in C, I jusssst squeaked in at 5016! I am just thrilled to not be in D because I am now a full walker most likely, as opposed to an 11:30 runner. I am just excited to be in WDW, in a race, with my hubs, and on vaca for a week! It can't come soon enough after what I've been through the last few months!!

Good luck to everyone tapering/or getting those last long runs in...It's so awesome to come and read your stories. Means a lot

You're going to have such a great time and a great race! I'm in Corral C too (6095) I can't remember which famous runner said it, but be sure to show off your medal until the ribbon wears out!!

Hey gang, race is coming up! I am proud to say I finished 11 miles on Monday. I'm not sure I can convey how happy I am! Maybe a few more smileys?

I followed the Galloway training program specifically for this race. This is my very first race of ever. I started training earlier than the schedule because I wanted to give myself lots of wiggle room. My goal all along has been to run a 12 minute mile. I finished 11 miles at a pace of 12:04 per mile! So happy and excited.

Anyway now I am not sure what to do leading up to the race. I've already increased the plan a little bit. I run 3.5 miles twice a week, and then do my long run on the weekends usually. The last two "short" runs I did were 5 miles, the last two "long" runs I did were 9.5 and 11!

Confused as to what I should do now. Taper off? I don't want to tire myself out although I must say I felt very decent after the 11 mile. A little calf soreness, but I was able to tackle my ice skating lesson just fine. This gives me hope that I won't be wrecked after the race, because I have Disney plans! What do you guys think?

I think you'd be fine to start a taper if you've gotten your mileage that high already...here's what my plan looks like leading up to the race:

this week: 4, 4, 7
next week: 4, 4, 10k
week after: 4, 3, 5
week of race: 3, 3, 10

The pod cutout is in the arch... but what I mean is I need a tad bit more cushioning in the heel. Maybe.. I don't know. I think time will tell once I get up higher in miles. 5 miles is about where everything started to happen before. (like blisters and chaffing)

I didn't have a time to submit at registration so I knew I would be in D. When I talked to Disney sports though, the rep told me that at the expo I would probably be moved to B based on my 10k time. now... that 10k time would suggest over 2 hours. (but by only a few minutes) Maybe that is why she said probably B? Or maybe (and this is what I hope) that it will also be influenced by how many people show up to get corral placement changed. I do plan to do another 10k the weekend after next. I think there are some hills...and that scares me. However, I hope that I can get it done a little closer to an hour. (my time at the 10k I did while limping was 1:17:xx) If I could shave a minute off my average time I would be happier with it to submit. However, I have a run partner...so if she doesn't meet my time I will stay back with her. She has not done her 10k yet so a lot will depend on what she does. Currently, her best pace has been over 13:00

Did you register early? I registered when it was almost full... I wonder if that could have influenced placement... or maybe my old age.

for getting in that long of a run. My run partner is using the Galloway for training... but I couldn't. It was too hard on me to do starts and stops.. as long as I keep going... I can.. but once I stop my joints don't like starting up again and with the (I think she does)20/40s they are just too short of bursts for me. Course.. .since that is what she will be doing at the race, I will have to try that. I just hope my joints dont complain too much and cause me trouble.

I like this schedule!!! I just wish I was not in need of more training and could taper down as much as you are. Although it is not too far off of my own... I need to get a little bit longer distance in this week.. (so probably will look more like 5.5, 6 and the 6.5.) Next week I planned to do a 7 and a 7.5 and then the 10k. Once I do my 10k, do you think I should taper down like you are or still try and get further distances in for at least the week after next?

I am in D. I was expecting D. I didn't submit a time, and I listed the maximum time to finish.

How humid will it be at 10pm? It's so stinking hot here in IL. Ive never been to FL in September/October

Hello everyone! I haven't posted here in FOREVER! However I'm still around and just rediscovered this thread. I'm getting excited for the race! Somehow, I got in Corral B, along with my 3 daughters, and my son got in Corral A. I have been battling a horrible IT band issue for about 8 months now. I thought for sure it would have been over by now. It's soooo frustrating. I had to mostly walk a half marathon a week and a half ago. I might have ran 5 miles of it, off and on. I'm going to try to get in a good 7 miler in the next couple of weeks and call it good. I'll probably take it kind of easy and not injure myself further and really try to focus on Wine and Dine half and the Jan WDW half.

What's weird with my IT band, though, is that I now have pain on the inside of my knee too, along with my ankle. Bizarre. I've been getting Graston therapy for a month or longer, and sports massages. I need to strengthen my glutes more, and be more religious about foam rolling, but it's a pain in the ...... IT band. Lol.

Happy running everyone! Is there a DIS meet for this race? Also, where did anyone find any cool light up or glow in the dark stuff for the race? I saw the link for RawThreads. Any other ideas? Thanks to all!
