Pop Century vs. Caribbean Beach Resort

I am pricing out the difference for my trip and I need opinions!!! For a little less than $200 I could upgrade to Caribbean Beach from Pop. My only hesitation is that I would be in the Pirate rooms and I'm not into those at all. I'm also a little worried about the distance at CB. But there are so many other things I might enjoy - the beach among other things .

What do you think????

I've stayed at both, and we absolutely love Pop. But for that price difference? I'd definitely do CBR. It's a beautiful resort and honestly I think the size thing gets over blown. It's a beautiful resort and nice to walk around in. We were in Trinidad and I didn't find it that big of a deal to walk to the main hall. They have a nice food court too btw.

I just paid $500 to upgrade from a value to a mod (FQ) over Xmas week.

I would absolutely make the switch for $200.

Is CBR the only mod available?

How many nights are you going? I don't think I would upgrade for a short trip. I don't think I could justify the cost and on a short trip we spend less time at the resort. If it's a longer trip I would upgrade. We liked Pop, but I can't imagine staying there for more than 4 or 5 nights. There's just more room to spread out an relax at a moderate. As for the distance. I think it comes down to personal preference. I didn't think CBR was too big or spread out, but someone else will feel differently about it.

For $200? I'd switch to CBR in a flash. Love those hammocks on the beach

I would say switch if you hadn't said you weren't into the pirate rooms. I have good friends who have stayed CBR many times and tried the pirate rooms this past year. They said they were the most uncomfortable beds they have ever slept on at Disney. (no box springs) They also didn't like the location. Maybe the regular rooms will open up.

Thank you all! I went ahead and booked at CBR. We are there for 8 days/7 nights and I think TarheelGirl made a good point - I don't know if I can stand being closeted in a smaller room with 2 teens and my DH for 7 days. I was lucky - while on the phone with the CM, a water-view must have opened up! I'm happy about not having the pirate room!!!

Thanks again - as always, everyone was so helpful! Now I'm totally looking forward to that hammock on the beach! It's also good to hear that some people didn't think the walks were too long. I'm really going to try to slow down and enjoy this trip so I think the walks just may be perfect!

We just upgraded from Pop to Caribbean Beach as well for our 9 night stay in September and are really looking forward to it! We absolutely LOVE Pop but couldn't book there and get FD this year so we decided to try something different. Similar to your situation to our surprise it wasn't that much more over the course of the trip to stay at a MOD! Hope you make the right decision for you and your family and enjoy your trip!

We have stayed at Pop twice (2005 & 2010) & we will be staying at CBR for our second time in June 2012(last stay at CBR in 2007)..We enjoy both. I do like to stay at a moderate resort when traveling during the summer months(slightly better pools & cover bus stops). Looking forward to staying at CBR again. Love the festive atmosphere & bright colors

CBR is a beautiful resort, if you can I'd request Jamaica. Great location.
Take some time to stroll around the resort and enjoy the landscapping. And the hidden nooks along the bridge over the lake.

You will love CBR. We were happy at POP but the added space at CBR is worth the $200.00

Have fun at CBR. Try to get a preferred location room that is close to the main pool... or ask for a room close to the pool when you arrive. We were in Jamaica Bldg (not preferred) just a short walk across the bridge to the pool. The main pool is GREAT! Big advantage over Pop Century -- the pool has slides and and a great waterplay area. Looks very nice at night. Swim at night. DS and I played pirates at night. Other stuff there to do too. When we stayed at POP in Dec. 2011, DS really missed the pool slides.

Go slower, relax, take a break, have an excuse to come back. Don't miss - Dapper Dans (MK), Flights of Wonder (AK), Fantasmic (HS), Mo-Rockin' (Epcot).
