Best Way to Get Around & What to Do?

Hey everyone,

DH and I will be heading to Vegas for our first trip December 12-15. We were considering Disneyland as I am having serious withdrawls from not going for over a year, but alas Vegas won out as it is somewhere we have never been (insert sigh lol).

We are flying in the morning of the 12th and leaving the night of the 15th. We are staying at New York New York and will not be renting a car. So, what is the best (and preferably least expensive) motorized way to get around from one end of the strip to another? We plan on doing a lot of walking but also realize that NYNY is toward the south end of the strip, rather than in the middle. Plus we want to go up to Fremont street one evening.

Also, what would you recommend seeing that is free as we walk around to the hotels? We are not the partying/drinking type, and DH likes to gamble occasionally. I could take it or leave it. We will most likely pay to see the Bodies exhibit at Luxor (as DH wanted to see it a few years ago when it came to Sacramento but didn't get the chance), and we may go see the Lion King. Therefore, free attractions to see and do would be great!

across the street you will have the lions at MGM, and Tropicana has free shows over their casinos. Belalagio fountains ad conservatory are not to be missed. Venetician is a must to walk all around the stores. The statue show at the Forum shops.
I would take a taxi to Freemont.

You can also take the Deuce bus up and down the strip and I think it may go down to Fremont St, but I can't be sure on that. There is the Sirens show at Treasure Island and the volcano at the Mirage which are free. The casinos/hotels themselves are a sight to be seen and explore. Have a great time!

The hotels are deffinatley worth walking around, you see some incredible sites and can pick up a drink for a couple of bucks aswell if your on a machine.

We didnt realise this, but the best way to get around is the monorail or on your feet. Taxis can be quite expensive.

The duece does go all the way to fremont st. The cost is 7 dollars for a 24 hr period. I love to use it.

Have a good time . As PP have said just walking around the big Strip Casinos is fun. We aren't gamblers either but have enjoyed our trips to Vegas. Would go more often but for distance
Look into taking a half day trip to see the Hoover Dam.Not free but worth seeing.

TAKE THE BUS! TAKE IT! The deuce is AMAZING! It quite literally goes everywhere. Much better value than the monorail. We made it all the way out to the Clark County Museum on the bus line, switching to a few routes here and there. It can take you from your hotel to the airport as well, all on a single 24 hour or 3-day pass.

As far as things to do, the Coca Cola store and M and M store are a good way to kill some time. There's a 3D movie for free in the M and M store, so cheesy, lol.

Fountains at the Bellagio, if that hasn't already been mentioned.

Looking around the shops at Caesar's Palace. (Note: There is a place here called Fat Tuesdays that has the cheapest frozen drinks on the strip. Same as the ones sold everywhere else, just for less money)

Fremont Street at night has free entertainment and CHEAP drinks. I got a 99cent margarita and it was yummy .

Looking around in the hotels is also very fun! We enjoyed all of the novelty slot machines.

We paid to go up in the stratosphere at night and it was TOTALLY worth it!

Also, ask at hotels, etc. for coupon books. Lots of places have them.

As far as food goes, there is a food court near the MGM Grand that has a panda express and a del taco, etc. (if you're looking to eat cheap). Also there are other food courts with things like Chipotle, etc. THERE IS AN EARL OF SANDWICH I think at the Flamingo One of my favorite snacks was at the Chippery in Caesar's Palace. Lots of flavors of hand cut chips, yum!

AND LATE NIGHT BREAKFAST! How could I forget My brother and I flew in really early in the AM (1-2 ish) and stayed up until our room was ready later in the morning. We went to the Hard Rock hotel restaurant called Mr. Lucky's. They have a special, not on the menu, called Mr. Lucky's Special. $7.77 for a strip steak, shrimp, and mashed potatoes. Seems like a lot of food (lol, let's be fair, it is) but it feels so Vegas! They also had things like $2 cheeseburgers and fries.

This website is a little off-color, but it has some decent recommendations as well.
