***Official Disney Apps Thread - UPDATE: 8/4/12***

Well, someone had to do it. We have at least one thread a month talking about the apps for the iPhone and Android phones, so I thought there should be an official thread for it. Also, any tips about the apps are greatly appreciated. I don't have anything to add - I don't use apps - but contributions will be compiled into a list. I'll try to compile the tips too.

Okay, here's how the links work:

Next to each app's name is either " : iTunes, " : Blackberry", or " : Android ". This tells you what store it is in(for all you non-techies out there).

If the app has two links like this, it can be found in both stores. One link means it is available in ONLY the store listed.

It took a while, but I did it! I hope this makes it even easier for you to find apps!

• Gives you trivia and tips for around the parks. Great little app to finding things that Imagineers have hidden throughout the parks.

• Park Maps - Wait Times - Dining - Park Hours
  
• Cost: Free, ad-free: $2.99
  
• Tip: IMO, it's terrific.
• The Park Maps have the wait time in them - so if you zoom in and pan thru the map, the wait times are on the attractions.
• The Park Hours is handy - lists EM hours and major parades/fireworks/etc.
• Overall it's very easy to use, very nice graphically, and very informative.
• This is what I bought an iPhone for - information at my fingertips.

• The mini guide is for Apple users, and the map version is for Android users.

WDW Ride Counter: iTunes

• You type in the names of your party and click when you go on each ride and it totals how many times you have ridden each ride.
  
• Cost: Free
  
• Tip: Kind of fun and free!

Pressed Penny Locator: WDW and Pressed Penny Locator: DL

• Locating pressed pennies throughout WDW and DL.
  
• Cost: 0.99 cents
  
• Tip: If you don't want to buy the App you can go to any guest services and pick up a list of Pressed penny locations, although this is a little bit more accessible.

Also, not very Disney related but helps with accurate weather, traffic, news about Disney and the surrounding areas:

WESH2 News App: iTunes and WESH2 HD News App: iPad

• Allows you to see news about Orlando and areas surrounding Disney. Largest news network in Orlando.
  
• Cost: Free
  
• Tip: Provides up to date and accurate weather.

Disney Vacation Countdown by Mobile Monkey Development: Android

• It is a widget
  
• Creates vacation countdowns
  
• Cost: Free
  
• Tip: Have you noticed how much physical memory this takes up? If you're going to have this widget running you might want to have a full battery and plan to recharge every 4 or so hours. It's nice, but there are other countdowns out there. This one just happens to be in the shape of a Mickey head. This is on my HTC Evo 4g. It might be different for other phones.

WDW Countdown by PLR Concepts: iTunes

• Countdown your trip. Has photos of WDW attractions and resorts. Countdown appears as a bagde icon if you set alerts. Alerts pop up everyday with your countdown.
  
• Cost: $0.99
  
• Tip: There is a Facebook option to post your countdown on your wall. It appears with a small generic photo. I prefer to capture the image where it is saved in your my photos and then post the picture with my countdown to my wall. It looks awesome. I also text the pictures to my family that is coming on our trip with us.
  
• Tip 2: Sometimes when I upgrade my iPhone OS to the latest version I have to reset my badge alerts. No big deal to me.

DISNEY FACTS: iTunes

• Cost: $2.99
  
• Disney facts are its specialty.

Hidden Mickeys: iTunes

• Cost: $7.99
  
• Tip: It is worth the money

Disney World Wait Times by Apptasmic LLC: iTunes

• Cost: $4.99, Lite version: Free
  
• I'm not sure how to find out what phones and carriers it works on but I have an iPhone 4S(Verizon).
  
• Wait times for restaurants and attractions as well as park hours, character appearances etc. . Also gives info on each attraction such as ride length time, hight requirements, if it has a fass-pass, age requirements...etc.
  
• Tip: It has a red icon and 2 globes making up a Mickey head

DISNEY PHOTO A DAY - Daily Wallpaper from WDW and Disneyland by Keith Kolmos: iTunes and Christmas Version: iTunes

• Cost: $0.99
  
• You can save the photos for wallpaper, etc and each day also has some trivia information about it.
  
• Tip: You get the previous 30 days when you purchase as well. Love this app, check it every day- def worth every penny.

Disney Gift Card App: iTunes

• Cost: Free
  
• The numbers on the gift cards are entered and it is supposed to keep track in real time of how much $ is left on the cards.
  
• Tip: Much better than carrying around a sharpie to record the new balance each time the kids spend some money from them!
  
• Report: "Reporting back on the Disney Gift Card App. It was flawless and impressive! The balance change was instantaneous after every single purchase. Gift cards for our kids are now going to be a WDW vacation staple."

How We Take On The World: Android and How We Take On The World: iTunes and How We Take On The World: Blackberry

• It's like a cross between a reviews app and a big trip report. There are reviews of the disney world resorts, restaurants, bars, suggestions on ways to save, good times to go, etc.
  
• Cost: Free for Android and Blackberry; $0.99 for iTunes
  
• Tip: In addition to the use description above, the app has lots of personal touches which I love and they give great suggestions. The pictures are awesome - especially of the food and drinks and they recently added some neat videos.

Where in Walt Disney World?: iTunes

• Cost: Free lite version, paid: $0.99
  
• Tip:This Disney app shows pictures around MK and Epcot and you have to figure out exactly where it is and what ride or attraction it is in a certain amount of time. Can also play in Themed Tours mode and guess the different Resorts, Restrooms, Trashcans, and Water Fountains are around WDW.

Mickey Mouse Clock with Date: Android

• Sorry, I could not find a Google Play link.
  
• Mickey Mouse Analog Clock with Date and Weekday
  
• Android ONLY!
  
• Cost: Free

Winnie The Pooh Live Wallpaper: Android

• Cost: $0.99.
  
• The background is either a sunny day or a cloudy day (updates based on your local weather) and it even shows rain when its raining. Pooh floats around with a bunch of ballons and if you tap him he waves, Tigger bounces up and down, Piglet floats around with a red balloon and Eeyore sits on a gloomy cloud and if you tap him he looks at you.
  
• Trick: There are balloons that fly up the screen and you can pop them which I sometimes zone out doing!

Disneyland Explorer: iTunes

• Cost: Free
  
• iPad only so far...
  
• A walk-through of the Disneyland Park.
  
• Tip: Not a touring or planning app, and not Disney World either, but still fun.

Twiz: Android

• Cost: $1.99
  
• The app specializes in giving you routes... to and from locations within Disney... it will give several options for method of transportation for the routes as well... walking, bus, boat, et c.
  
• Tip: My family and I found it helpful in getting us where we wanted to go in the shortest time as well as the most scenic route. The kids loved it because I allowed them to choose which method we'd take to get to our destination. I quickly became "the coolest dad ever" lol
  
• Note: Thanks to all for sharing your apps, I hope sharing this app will be as helpful to you as you have been to me.

Disney Bubble - WDW Toddler Edition: iTunes

• Cost: $0.99
  
• This app gave really listed out the must dos when taking a toddler to Disney. We really followed the listing and had a great time (I.E., we took it at her pace and (except for one day where we pushed it), we avoided the meltdowns).
  
• Tip: We weren't really excited to take our 2 year old to Epcot, as I always remember that as the place for older people to go, but we found a ton of things she loved with the help of this app.

WDW Heat Tables: iTunes

• Cost: $1.99.
  
• It's a wait time app.
  
• It was super accurate. It color-codes the wait times and shows Fast Pass availability(indicating if fast passes are about to run out).

Disney Memories Mobile App: Android and Disney Memories Mobile App: iTunes

• Cost: Free
  
• You can decorate your photos.

eTicket WDW: iTunes and eTicket DL: iTunes

• Cost: $5.99
  
• Includes maps of each park for the associated resort
  
• Lists and descriptions of attractions, restaurants, resorts, etc.
  
• No wait times
  
• Park hours
  
• "My Itinerary" function to list your entire schedule
  
• DISBoards login with view of boards optimized for your phone
  
• DVC points calculator
  
• Available on iPhone (not sure about other platforms)
  
• Tip:
• I got this for the Disboards link, but I don't use it. My biggest complaint is that I can't just list my subscriptions. I have to drill down to each thread I'm interested in and see if there are any new posts. Not useful for me.
• Also I wish the WDW and DL apps were combined. $5.99 for each is too much for info you can get elsewhere for free. Not that much value added, in my opinion.

TripIt--Travel Organizer: iTunes and TripIt--Travel Organizer: Android

• Not really a Disney app, but general travel. I use it for Disney all the time.
  
• Cost: free w/ads, $3.99 w/o ads, free w/o ads for TripIt Pro Members ($49/year via the website). The only difference is ads or no-ads. Ads aren't that bothersome--I'd try free before purchasing.
  
• Tip: I have a TripIt account and use the app for my iphone. You can put in hotel info, flight info (or any transportation), and any activities. It really does anything and everything travel related. A great way to keep all your stuff organized. The best part is that you can use it to share your plans with someone else--big bonus if you're traveling alone. Also extra nice because you can use your online and app seamlessly together--a change to one changes the other. You do need to sign-up for an account with TripIt, but it's free for a basic account that does most everything a paid account does.
  
• Tip 2: For Disney I even have my ADR confirmation numbers in there to be paperless.

Carrr Matey: iTunes and Carrr Matey: Android

• This app helps you find your car by GPS. In the words of DISer jennykay, "I see the potential for this to be very helpful in those giant parking lots at WDW!"
  
• Cost: Free; However, the free price tag for the iTunes version is limited time only.

Days To Go WDW

• iPhone only!
  
• It's a basic countdown app.
  
• It features a badge that updates daily and you can use its stock Disney photos (there are only a couple) or your own as the background.
  
• Cost: $0.99.

Yellow Pages

• Everything gas, food, shopping and anything else you can think of in the Disney area. Always lots of questions on here about off site dining and groceries. This has it all. DH finds it useful because not only does it list cheapest gas in the area, but cheapest diesel (big deal with our truck).
  
• All platforms -smart phones and tablets
  
• Cost: Free

My Disney Experience

• An upgrade from Mobile Magic, MDE lets you make reservations, find rides and attractions closest to you with Here and Now, search for characters, and even check wait times.

If you have an IPhone or Android on Verizon Network you can get Disney's Mobile Magic. Does roughly the same as Touring Plans Lines app. But they give you a free I believe 60 or 90 day free trial.

You can add all your reservations from flights, to ground transportation to dining, etc. There is also a restaurant listing that menus and prices.

I use pinpoint.com for maps (.99), they have all of Disney as well as sea world, Universal, Islands of Adventure and the Orlando Airport.

I also found a free ride counter on WDWMajic. You type in the names of your patry and click when you go on each ride and it totals how many times you have ridden each ride. Kind of fun and free!

It should be completely free now. On Android, it can actually be used on any carrier, but telling how to do this is against the DIS rules so please don't ask me. It is pretty easy to figure out on your own.
