I have been unable to locate a resale FAQ anywhere, so please feel free to point me in the right direction if these questions have already been asked before. When you purchase points through resale, does Disney still give you all the same paperwork (the legal books, points chart catalogue, properties brochure)? If you purchase several smaller contracts with the same UY and home resort, do they remain as individual accounts or can you merge them into one? As a resale buyer, is Disney still able to bill monthly for dues or does it have to be paid yearly? Are there any other differences between direct vs. resale that I might not be aware of (other than that they can't trade out to DCL or the Disney Collection, Adventures, etc.). Booking, banking, and borrowing rules are all the same, right?

no. they do send you the point chart updates each year, though.

If you purchase several smaller contracts with the same UY and home resort, do they remain as individual accounts or can you merge them into one?

they remain separate for the purposes of selling or willing them later, regardless.

if you purchase contracts with the same UY month and they are titled the same, then they should be combined under one membership number. if they are combined under one member number, then you can pool points as if they were one contract...at 11 months out if they are the same home resort or at 7 months out if they are different home resorts.

As a resale buyer, is Disney still able to bill monthly for dues or does it have to be paid yearly?

monthly is an option, yes.

Are there any other differences between direct vs. resale that I might not be aware of (other than that they can't trade out to DCL or the Disney Collection, Adventures, etc.). Booking, banking, and borrowing rules are all the same, right?

trading out is the only difference at this point, yes.

You can exchange through RCI using your resale points, however.

Do resale owners get the subscription to Disney Files magazine? While I wouldn't base a purchase on it, I was really looking forward to it!

Just so you know, Disney Files is probably one of the most despised "enhancements to the ownership experience in response to member feedback" we have endured in recent years.

If I can be serious for a moment -- at any given time, there are usually a half-dozen or more "should I buy?" threads here on this forum. Scroll down the first page and you'll recognize them.

Read every word of ALL of them. It's not possible for folks to bounce from thread to thread, answering every single imaginable question without missing anything important. So read them ALL.

Spend some time learning as much as you can so you might make the best decision possible, good luck with that decision and process. In general, DVC is best for those that value staying on property, will go to WDW (or other DVC resort) most years, plan on using points at DVC resorts and can afford such a luxury purchase without financing.

I have been, but I hadn't seen the answers to any of these questions in them, which is why I started a new thread. A question though: on my display, this forum only has two pages, the oldest thread having been replied to on Sept. 19th. Is there a way to see older threads in a page by page format?

Thanks. I plan on hanging out here for a while, hopefully buying next year in cash. We plan on buying at AKV, which we *love*.

I think it may have improved with the last issue, but for a long time it seemed to be about 50% about the ego of the editor and 50% sales material or general Disney info. Really not very much content about DVC Members. The predecessor magaziine was much more member oriented.

Possibly one of the mods will explain that better than I can, but the basic reason is to clean up the boards and make the best use of bandwidth. You'll see some of the longer threads (like the ROFR thread) truncated with the older info dropped out. However, I think most of the older info is still in the archives and will pop up on a search.

Another good source of info, if you haven't discovered it yet is Tim's DVC News. Near the top of that home page you'll see a button for DVC Program, which will give you a very good introductory FAQ on DVC from contributors who aren't trying to sell you anything.

The suggestions of read, read, read are just a reflection of the fact that there are always multiple threads on this subject, but not everyone reads all of them or responds to all of them. So if you don't read them, you might not only miss good answers, you might miss good questions you don't even know exist. Most of the "should I buy" threads should be on this board, but often related issues (perks, problems, RCI, etc) are also discussed over on the DVC Mousellaneous board.

You're doing it the right way -- take your time and do your homework.
