Unusual Concierge Requests

What was your most unusual request from Concierge and was it fulfilled? Just curious, traveling concierge for the first time and wondered how far they go to please.

I can tell you 3 things I overheard on our last cruise which I thought were out of line ...

1) Asking for 2 bottles of wine to be delivered to the room. The bartender in the lounge asked, "2 glasses?" No. 2 bottles. Free. Delivered to the room as an extension of happy hour in the lounge.

2) Asking for 12 bottles of beer to be delivered to the room (separate person). When the bartender hesitated for a moment, she followed up with "I've already been told NO twice today. I don't want to hear it again."

3) Asking for smoothies for the kids 5 minutes before the lounge was going to close (after happy hour was over) when the bartender wasn't around.

I have no idea if the requests were accommodated, but I wouldn't blame the concierge team if they weren't.

I was a little annoyed by these things because we are not ones to abuse happy hour, and I hope the "entitlement" attitude by some doesn't ruin happy hour for everyone.

I know that wasn't your question ....

We are pretty simple peeps. We ask for a table to ourselves at dinner, and the concierge has always been able to confirm that. That is the extent of our requests.

Wow...it takes all kinds. I certainly hope the "guests" weren't accomodated for their DEMANDS. Happy hour is a perk we're looking forward to when we sail concierge and don't want these types of "guests" to ruin it for everyone else.

Wow that is a bit over entitled. I just booked concierge for 2013 and wasnt thinking of asking anything like that. Maybe a table for 2 or 4 tops, and I was hoping for 2 Palo brunches not dinner at Palo or Remy as I'm a fussy eater. Curious to see what others say.

I did read that canned sodas and bottled water are free? Dont drink soda, but would love the water...

Your requests aren't unreasonable at all. When you board, go to the concierge lounge and meet with the team. They'll review your itinerary with you and see if you'd like any additional Palo/Remy reservations. My husband and I always ask for a table for 2, and in 6 Disney cruises, we've never been denied.

Soda cans are out for the taking (we don't drink soda either, really). They will have glass water bottles you can fill cups with when you're in the lounge. If you want bottles of water, you simply need to ask. They are bottles of Evian. We would sometimes go into the lounge to grab a couple of bottles before going to the pool or onto Castaway Cay.

Of course, you also get the standard 6 sodas and 2 (or 3?) bottles of water in your mini-fridge. I'm sure the concierge won't care if you take your sodas to the lounge and tell them you want to trade them in for waters. We just left our sodas in the fridge.

Can you believe those things I heard were over the course of a 3-night cruise?? (We did a 4-night where we didn't hear any such demands, followed by the 3-night on a B2B).

There is not a lounge on the magic or wonder.

Now that the Dream is out, I think Disney will need some consistency in their concierge offerings, but who knows if that will happen.

The only free happy hours on the Magic are when you board and meet with the concierge team and the night of the concierge reception. We've cruised concierge 4x on the Magic and Wonder and have never asked for a glass of wine in the cabin, and it wasn't something that was offered.

The concierge will visit you daily to see if you need anything and to drop off a daily treat. You will also be set up with the 6 cans of soda and 2/3 bottles of water. The concierge will make swaps for you if say you'd rather have all diet cokes v. cokes and sprites.

You will get a dedicated line to the concierge if you need anything (extra Palo reservations, charging your tips to your room, stateroom issues, etc).

Also, the concierge will help you if you'd like to order from the main restaurants and have dinner served in your suite, but you would be charged for any alcohol you have with dinner in your stateroom.

The concierge lounge is definitely a nice addition to the Dream, and that definitely adds to the concierge experience. One concierge on the Dream told us that the Magic and Wonder are starting to get more complaints as folks have sailed the Dream (or read about it), and then come on the Magic or Wonder and ask "where's the concierge lounge?" I just don't know that the Magic or Wonder has any space to convert for such a thing.

However, I will say, give me a midship Cat 3/T suite on the Magic/Wonder any day over the Cat Ts on the Dream. The Dream suites we felt were cramped. Sure, the bathrooms were nicer, but the layout on the classic ships is much better.

You would think that that there would be consistency with concierge. Maybe there will be some changes by the time we sail next year. One can hope.

I am excited about our suite. We are in one with the murphy bed in the living area instead of the master.

Since they are the older ships they did not plan for a concierge lounge, unfortunately. They do have some events such as a concierge reception with special meet and greets just for concierge guests. If you don't want soda just ask the concierge to switch it out, we did this as we only like some soda and water so he traded out all of our sprites for more water and diet coke. Depending on the length of your cruise you may also get a refill in your fridge. You will love the suite.

Not sure what you mean by unusual but here are the things we requested on the WBTA.

- They usually bring treats everyday and we asked for a bowl of berries everyday for our daughter in addition
- Lunch and Dinner menus for the entire cruise
- 1 item to be signed by characters
- Corrections to the final bill, including canceling an internet package that we did not use
- A dining room server of a specific nationality
- One day we had a party and we asked for an assortment of treats, the concierge arranged for plates of treats to be brought at a certain time, nothing real special just cookies, cheese, and fruit
- Crib in our Cabana
- Last minute spa and excursion reservations as well as nursery times.
- hair appointments before dinner on formal night - including changing this automatically when formal night changed to a different day.
- booking private Palo room
- Extra Palo Dinner - which we ended up canceling - and he took care of this as well.

For the most part we could have done these things ourselves or asked our TA to place requests on our reservation. But the nice thing about the concierge was we could call him and tell him what we wanted and he would make all the necessary calls. For example we decided late one night to change an excursion we had for the next morning. We called him up and he came to our suite and discussed the excursions with us, called the port adventures manager to check about the questions we had, helped us pick a new one, canceled the old one, booked the new one, called the nursery and got us the time we needed plus extra time in case we were late coming back. It is just overall an amazing service.

The most unusual thing that I saw was the concierge waiting at the gangway with all of the VAT paperwork for a family's shopping trip. I thought WOW that is going above and beyond.
