Its just cold here, I have felt like a bum all day, my DH has today off... I find it weird that he has MLK off but not Easter... (He works for Comcast, but my Sister and BIL have Easter but not today, they work for AT&T.
We had a 60 degree day Saturday my DS bday was then, we went ahead and gave him his present since it was so nice. He got a new bike...

I really need to get some work done, but I find it hard to do what i need to do with my children and DH home....

Ha, I wasn't going to, but I left the page came back still nobody grabbed it...but I'm not gonna do anything extra to get it. .

The demo is done and once they got the floor up, the damaged part of the floor was a circle about a foot wide. Our wonderful builder did not seal the shower pan before they put the doors on. The floor sucked up that trickle of water for ten years. We also found out the tub was not properly set. AND when they turned off the water main it never totally shut off! The things that you learn about you builder by remodeling.

They were done with demo by noon and off to buy supplies for the new wall and floor repair. My two youngest grand babies came to visit. And now that the extent of the damage under the shower is known, I'm better!!

Sorry to hear of the surprise. It is always scary what you will find when you start a remodel. That's why we were so glad to get out of that old house we were in.

I know, Chuck, but our house is only 10 years old and we are the first owners. Our contractor says they see that a lot where the shower pan/door frame is not properly sealed and once the doors are installed, it's darn near impossible to seal after the fact. The contractor blamed it on the unskilled labor force builders use. I'm just glad we know now! They never mudded in the tub either. I"m gonna love this bathroom!

I know that is true about the labor. I have to say, I was sad to see when our house was being built and we would "sneak" in for a peak, the things we saw. It was really crazy. The one time we where there (when we were not supposed to be) the house was just about complete. My entry way, to the right is a closet. Once the floor was put in you could see how croocked the wall was, I mean it was off alot. Well it just so happend the manger of the workers came and "caught" us in the house and was telling us we were not to be in there...bla bla bla....so we pointed out the wall and told him that we would not close until it was fixed. He did give us a little hard time about it, but in the end they did fix it. I just dont understand how they can do shabby work and think its ok??

Well now you know that your bathroom will not only look great, but things will be done properly.

Another cold day here....Chuck I heard you were getting a lot of this cold out your way. Lucky you only a short time and you wont have to deal with this cold weather.

We are a first time house owners, we bought a older home that was listed as remodeled and with a list of things they replaced including a heat pump. We talked with neighbors and they said the house was gutted inside down to the bones... It looked great! We had a huge back yard, not a big house (we were only planning on staying 4-6 years. We are coming up on 3 years. The new flooring they laid was done completely wrong gaps everywhere now that we have had a few seasons for it to expand and shrink. The heat pump is faulty, the plumping has been leaking they covered up a huge hole under the kitchen sink with plywood. We just discovered. They put a vent in the bathroom with a window now the the vent is allowing water in shorting out our hall and bathroom light. They listed dry rot on the north side painted the whole house, but now we have to replace the east, and south side of the house because of the dry rot that was missed.
It's been very frustrating, since we over paid for the house, I knew we were over paying but we needed a house and with all the NEW things that were listed we bought it was the best choice so we wouldn't have to worry about the major issues. We are now worrying about the major issues. Oh and I feel through the deck 2 months ago..... Everything that was done was half ***, I just don't know what to do, I don't want to dump money in a house that I won't see a return on. I told DH that when we are ready we might have to to sell it for what is left on our mortgage because its bit worth what we paid. To me that's sad hopefully the next homeowners are true flippers... (That's what the couple before us did or didn't do to this one)

Oh no!!!! My son has a situation like that...he's in the military and has transferred but still has a house he overpaid for, needs lots of reno to 'fix' the earlier reno and added to that, someone in the neighborhood took a huge loss on their house, driving down the value even more. He's just hoping to keep it rented out to at least pay the mortgage.

Ugh, builders throwing up houses as quickly as possible!

The cold is HERE ..... we've already had our high this morning....dropping temps and high windchill. brrrrrr

that is sad....they were probably trying to sell it as fast as they could and your right, did a shabby job....while looking at the house you dont notice these things until it to late....but I hear ya on doing a lot of updates and then trying to sell, because you wont get your money back on it....with the economy and house sales down, everyone wants you house handed to them...Oh but you have to update everything first and put in new appliances...its very fustrating.
I remember years ago, my sister and her husband were buying a house, when they were looking at the kitchen the owners were home and had it kinda dark in there. so they bought the house, final walk thru the lady says to my sister oh the cabnits in the kitchen they had contact paper and she pulls it off and the cabnits were a mess underneath. She had to have them all replaced after they moved in...

So sorry you are facing this, especially for your first house. It's amazing the shoddy work that is done on these houses. All of these contractors/builders/homeowners are cutting corners and hoping inspectors won't find it. Shy of ripping things apart during an inspection (which we can't do) we are really at the mercy of the inspector and what we can see.

Here is some good advice I was given too late when selling our last house. About a year before you decide to put the house on the market, find a good home inspector and do an inspection of your own so you will know what may come up. You can pick and choose what you may want to fix prior to selling and what you will leave and hope won't be an issue. There were some things we fixed that we probably didn't need to because they weren't big things that would cause an issue.

Yes, bitter cold here this week and snow in the forecast for Friday. Hope it doesn't impact our flight on Saturday. Unfortunately we will be stuck here in PA until we find jobs in Florida, so we will have to deal with the cold for the time being.
