I think I sent out an email stating it would begin last week......but I completely forgot.

If any of you showed up and I wasn't there....I apologize.
Looking forward to it, thanks Kevin.

Same ground rules as last time?

No Monty Python references allowed?

Actually, I am going to try to get my sister (tinkerbell1003) involved so she can get to know everyone.

I'm going to try to make it to chat as well. Where I work, we are at our craziest around Post-Season Baseball...I definitely understand how busy things can get when it comes to live sports!

Monthy Python....

We will be doing this each week up until it's time to go on our Adventure!

If you miss a week, we'll fill you in the week after.

Looking forward to getting this started.

It means the Adventure is around the corner.

Grom Gelato

Below is a link to the Grom Gelato menu, it looks like there are locations in Rome, Venice and Florence. There are also a few locations in NYC...I wish they were more convenient to my office on the Upper East Side (although Laduree opened a location a few blocks away).

It looks like they add new flavors each month. I really hope the Caramello Al Sale is still on the menu in May!

Note to self: Learn to say luscious gelato flavor words!! I am doing Pimsleur Italian and make myself laugh over my improbable Italian non accent. When I refreshed my French last year, it was a totally different thing. Now I keep trying to speak Italian with a French accent. Non molto bene!

We had Grom gelato just outside Piazza Navonna in Rome.

Courtney suggested it was the best. My of my, was she right....it was incredible.

Most gelato places serve stuff that is almost jewel colored. This means artificial flavors and preservatives.

Grom is much more lightly colored and is all natural, made on the premises in very small batches and served fresh.

The difference was noticeable.

On top of that, we found it incredible that the price was lower than most other gelato places.

We tried the Grom signature flavor. It has bits of cake and chocolate in it.

It was 35 degrees and it was still fantastic.

Did I miss anything big in chat last night? I was too busy to sign in at work and didn't get home until after 10:00. I hope to make it next week.

The trip starts in a little over 9 weeks.

Chat was nice, you did not miss much of consequence.

We discussed Ipad and phone service issues in Italy, shopping for jewelry and leather goods and how to handle the language differences (Be polite and learn a few basic words, the rest will work it self out).

How many Euros to bring (enough for small purchases), ATM (they are there like Paris), and of course food.

Everyone is getting excited.

There was very little discussion regarding electrical current.

Fun to talking to everyone, missed you there.

Frank

Thanks for the update, Frank!
  • I've got to think about ordering Euros at some point
  • I've got all the electrical current information I need
  • I'm, of course, looking forward to the food
  • I'm also getting very excited!!
  • I was disappointed that I didn't get to talk to everyone last night

Ok...think I'm caught up.

a while back, I talked about a travel blanket I liked from TravelSmith.

I received an email this morning letting me know that everything regularly priced on their website is 25% off with free shipping 3/17 - 3/20.

You must use the code ESSP1869 at checkout.

They have some cool travel stuff.

Hopefully, someone can use this info.

I do not know how my DW and I got on this subject, but here are the bed dimensions for Italy (She thinks I'm special)

In Italy, beds are classified by width. Sizes often used are:

piazza or Singolo*
80–90*cm (31–35*in) wide

Una piazza e mezza
120*cm (47*in) wide

Piazza francese
140*cm (55*in) wide

Due piazze or Matrimoniale
160–180*cm (63–71*in) wide

Tre piazze or Osimano
200–400*cm (79–157*in) wide
