Thankyou! I'm sure you'll love WL in September - but then I reckon you'll be enjoying everything in September (given the reason you're there ) DH and I love Artist Point - my next installment is going to be a hefty review of our first () dinner there.

Day 3 Part 4: How to make a small girl very...VERY...happy!

So I'm finally coming to the end of Day 3 in a series of twenty million - please try not to fall asleep everyone!!

Once we'd woken from our refreshing naps we had to get ready for our anniversary dinner. It was somewhat of a no brainer when it came to us making a decision about where we were going to eat for our very special occasion...so...
We want a really nice meal...
A signature restaurant would be great...
Probably good to eat somewhere tried and tested...
We'd both like to have a drink (or seven in my case ) so definitely don't want to drive...
It'd be lovely not to have to drag a tired four year old too far...
It'd be lovely not to have to drag me too far once I've had seven drinks... (that's on behalf of DH)
In the words of far too many high school TV programmes: You do the math!

And the winner is....ARTIST POINT...oh yeah!

So, we'd booked our ADR for 6.15 - a little later than we normally eat with DD but equally we knew that her bodyclock would still be totally messed up from the jet lag anyway so it became less relevant. She also loves meals out - methinks this probably means that we've been for way too many as the vast majority of four year olds I know can't sit on a chair for long enough...must be the super strength velcro we use....hmmm... Incredibly we were all ready a bit early (of course wearing our anniversary buttons - DD had one too which caused many a comment and humorous moment) so we headed to the restaurant to let them know we were around and would wait in the Territory Lounge () until our reservation time. Much to our surprise, the table was ready for us so that was even better and we were led straight into the restaurant.

I just adore the nostalgia that is associated with Disney trips - so many things - big and small - can trigger the most incredible memories...great memories. We loved Artist Point in 2009 and the moment we set foot in it again, all of those feelings flooded back... ...and they just make you smile......just like that... FAB

Our server for the evening was Andres and he was just perfect - paid exactly the right amount of attention and made just enough of a fuss of DD - we really couldn't have hoped for a better server He chatted away to us talking about all sorts of things including the wall mural containing the Hidden Mickey - we had heard about this and DH spotted it - Andres confirmed it and helped DD and myself catch up with old eagle eyes DH.

Photobucket

That's neither Hidden, nor a Mickey. Just a nice photo

4.8.11

Ah...there he is...

A slight tangent... 'Claire? A tangent?' I hear you cry...ok, yeah, all too often, I know... I've just realised that having led you to believe that this is the last post in day three (oh god, how bad does that sound?!) there is no way that I can post all the photos in one installment. It might have to creep into another itty bitty post...if I give it the same title will you forgive me...?

So, back to Artist Point...phew. DD was brought colouring and her menu - I seriously loved the fact that all of her crayons had food names: Granny Smith, Wild Strawberry, Plum and ...oh yes...Orange (doh) - I mean surely that can't be a coincidence??? Just another tiny detail of Disney genius We ordered drinks...DH had a Red Hook beer, DD had a Mickey cocktail - unfortunately it was fizzy which shocked her a little as she just doesn't like fizzy drinks - she's quite happy licking the freezer cabinet in Morrisons but can't drink anything fizzy...go figure...

This was mine:

4.8.11

A Washington Apple - yum!

We ordered our meals and didn't have long to wait for them to arrive. Using the DDP a starter isn't included, but DH and I had pretty much decided that if we were eating Signature then we were EATING SIGNATURE so we ordered starters. In addition to freezer cabinets, DD loves salmon which is exactly what she ordered to follow her starter of salad:

4.8.11

DH and I both ordered the, quite frankly, stupendous BLT

4.8.11

DH in particular was blown away by this - not a bad start!!! Then, DH ordered a Seafood Hotpot - the name doesn't make it sound like much but it was really fantastic. As I've just written this we've had a fab conversation:

ME: According to my notes, your main at Artist Point was called Seafood Hotpot.

DH: Mmmmmm....yeah.....shrimps and everything....Mmmmm

So there you have it...from the horse's mouth... shrimps and everything:

Photobucket

I will be advising DH that he should stick to romantic gestures, not food critiquing (does that word exist..?)
I went for the signature dish of cedar plank salmon:

4.8.11

This was delicious too and DD loved her salmon as well. With the entree, DH had a Widmer beer and, on Andres' recommendation, I had a glass of lovely Barnard Chardonnay. Then it was dessert; Chocolate Indulgence:

4.8.11

DH has just popped over to look at the photo. "Mmmmm, that was chocolatey..." Please refer back to my earlier comments re DH's pure skill at food commentary...

Now, we enjoyed this dessert, but it was nothing in comparison to DD's Mickey Puzzle Pudding. I'll put more in the next post...of the same title....

Day 3 Part 4: How to make a small girl very...VERY...happy! Same title...look...

Mickey Puzzle pudding. Let me say now, DD loves Mickey, loves art and loves pudding...

4.8.11

Photobucket

This was Mickey-art-pudding heaven. A Mickey jigsaw puzzle made of white chocolate, 3 Mickey heads of edible paint (cue an impromputu anniversary lesson in colour mixing...meh!) and 2 enormous cookies housing her eating implement - a paintbrush. Talk about innovative - DH and I were astonished and DD was....well...

4.8.11

...messy within seconds!

Whilst DD was painting herself...erm I mean eating her dessert beautifully...I indulged in this

4.8.11

A port flight...naughty...but very nice....

As we paid our bill and left Artist Point after a perfect celebration, Andres brought out a little light up Tinkerbell for DD. As if she wasn't happy enough already

Aww, it sounds like your anniversary dinner was pretty much perfect

I have always wanted to order the Mickey Puzzle dessert but as two adults we may look a little strange - especially as I am more of a messy eater than your DD

Oh yeah ..... "Port Flight"

Loving your report so far. Forgive me but I am a little late to the party so I am going to mention a few things from the beginning.

The VRoom at Gatwick is a great way to start a trip - we got it free with our booking last year but would definitely pay for it in future (although I am going to try your trick of asking for it free first )

So happy to see some pictures of my favourite resort on WDW property - the awesome Wilderness Lodge It is hands-down our favourite place to stay (and I note that you have been Flag Family on a previous trip too - truly an awesome experience, we were lucky enough to be Flag Family on our first stay at WL in 2008 and it was a-may-zing!)

Don't feel you have to apologise for too many pictures of food (or alcohol) - the more, the merrier

And, finally (for now), how sweet is your hubster for organising that lovely gift basket for you - and how utterly gorgeous is your DD.

Looking forward to reading more.

I have to admit I was rather jealous too - perhaps we should start a petition for adult versions of the pudding...ok that sounds dodgier than it should...you know what I mean...??? She adored it.

It was a wonderful dinner thanks. I do wonder if any adults have ordered the pudding - surely other people must have wanted one? Messier than DD?! Good work!

Port flight...mmmmmmmmmmmm indeed! Love port...

I have just caught up reading your most recent trip reports - really enjoyed them...will have to make a note of all the cocktails you recommend

Thanks for all the effort of catching up! Flag family was awesome - got some really special photos of it. Something that shouldn't be repeated and just stay as one fantastic memory.

Thanks for your lovely comments about DD - I think it's her dimples that help her in the cuteness factor - don't know where she got them from...maybe the milkman...???

Day 4 Part 1: Run Away!!!

After a perfect anniversary dinner we were asleep by 8.30...oh, yes, lightweights indeed!
After waking up at 7.00 we popped down to Roaring Forks for a spot of breakfast. DD had pancakes and bacon with an apple juice, DH had a pain au chocolat with coffee and I had a fruit cup with coffee. We were going to Typhoon Lagoon so didn't want to eat too much.

DD was very excited - she is somewhat obsessed with swimming - a bit of a water baby! When we came to WDW in 2009 it was amazing how much progress she made in the pool just by being able to be in it so often. Not quite the same as our freezing cold local pool...

We drove to Typhoon Lagoon - more to the point, I drove to Typhoon Lagoon....go me!!! This was my first foray into driving in WDW and was a little nervous. It was great fun though and I was glad I did it.

We arrived at TL and had a quick Photopass moment:

Photobucket

We arrived at TL and headed into the changing areas to get ready. At this point I noticed two things:
a. I had forgotten to put sun cream on my face
and
b. I had put swimming costume under my clothes and forgotten to bring my bra to change into afterwards....

Sometimes I am a total idiot.

We ploughed on regardless spending time at the Wave pool - DD loved the slides (unlike last time when we quickly discovered she was too small as she headed off the slide and her feet came down last and higher than all other parts of her body - oops.) We then pootled round Lazy River on our inner tubes - I love the sheer relaxation of this ride.
Now for all of you who have this view of my DH through rose tinted glasses due to his romanticness (???) on our anniversary, I would like to burst every single one of those bubbles by saying he spent the entire time on Lazy River attempting to push me into the freezing cold water jets and falls. Is that the same man???Hmmm???
Once we had disembarked (elegantly of course...) we went for a ride on Gangplank Falls - this was our first big water ride together and although there was a photo taken I think that one may have to stay in the deep dark vaults of photograph hell. It was fun but very rough and we were convinced that DD was about to fly out of the raft!
we headed over to Ketchakiddie Creek so DD could have a play on the smaller slides At this point I could feel my face crisping up nicely so we decided to go for an quick play in the Wave Pool before returning to the car.

Apologies for the general lack of photos in this post - we didn't take the camera swimming - couldn't find any armbands small enough....

Over to DTD we went with the intention of going to Wolfgang Puck Express or Earl of Sandwich. These were both absolutely packed and as we were really hungry and very hot so rather than wait in a massive queue we just messed up our spreadsheet and strolled right into Rainforest Cafe. This turned out to be the best decision ever as it was cool and quick - just what was required... On top of that we had a classic DD moment when she thought that the elephants were real...bless...it didn't phase her in the slightest.

I only hope that if she is ever faced with a real elephant that she blooming well runs for it rather than stand and consider its beauty...anyway, I digress...

Back to the meal. DD had a cheese and tomato pizza with an apple juice, DH had Taste of the Islands (Coconut shrimp, blackened Tilapia topped with mango salsa and Dynamite Scallops. Yup....shrimps and everything...mmmm ) and I had China Island Salad (Crisp greens tossed with grilled chicken breast, potato sticks, rice noodles, toasted sesame seeds, and scallions. Tossed with China Island Salad dressing.) My dish was one of those that you eat for six hours without making any progress whatsoever...it was yum though! DH and I both drank coke. We felt very refreshed although I had a headache (my new mantra became: mustn't forget sun cream, mustn't forget sun cream...) so we nipped to Guest Services for free Ibuprofen - marvellous!

We then nipped round some shops and allowed DD to spend some of her pocket money - we'd had a fantastic moment at Easter as we'd requested that none of us got Easter eggs as we just didn't manage to eat them so DH's mum and dad decided on something different:

ME: Look this is your card from nanny and grandi
DD: (ripping envelope open and something falling out of the card) Thank you.
ME: What's that? (pointing to dollars on the floor)
DD: (enormous intake of breath) CASH!!!

So she of course had to spend her cash! DD had become obsessed with a soft Minnie and Mickey wedding set which she delightedly purchased before we drove back to WL.

Another great day apart from you forgetting your bra That's the sort of thing I do.

I forgot the boys boxers and shorts one year when they were younger. Never entered my head as they were wearing long swim shorts when I rushed everyone out of the hotel. We had to borrow a couple of TL towels for them to sit on in the car on the way home as they were soaking.

Your DD is getting cuter by the minute

you can tell that the wedding Mickey and Minnie are her pride and joy in that photo.

I do think you really should share your photo from TL though, its only fair!!
