Question - will $5 a gallon gas make you stay home? For us, that will equate to $500 to $600 round trip cost in gas. Still cheaper than flying. Definitely will drive straight through that way. But it will feel a LOT more painful.

I think that will definitely take away that 2nd trip in the same year. One trip a year at $5 a gallon for us.
Not sure what we're going to do at this point. Would cost us the same amount to drive as it will to take the Autotrain at this point My kids really want to take the train but we have never taken it before and I do like driving. We may not even go at all at this point since we just shelled out 2k for dh's explorer to pass inspection. Perhaps we will drive down and take the AT home just for the experience.

from $4.00 to $5.00 per gallon = about $85.00 more round trip for us. nope, not staying home. i think for us, as long as gas is available, unlike the early 70s, we will still go god willing.

i dont have any experience with daytona and i95 on race weekend but i do live 30 min. from pocono raceway. i would stay away from that area if it was me. there are other routes, i just dont have my atlas at hand. if nobody chimes in soon, i will look it up for.

We're with you!

Now then...sustained high gasoline prices will have a huge effect on WDW: all the goods that arrive there are shipped via truck, and those added fuel costs have to be passed along in the form of higher prices. And then there's the increased fuel prices for ferries, cruisers, launches and pwcs on Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. Plastic products? All petroleum by products. The list goes on.

Hang in there, gang.

All the best.

We're planning our first drive in September from Wisconsin. Honestly, even with gas prices where they are now, it is basically the same cost or even a little cheaper to fly as it is to drive since it is just the two of us, and we'll be splitting the drive up to two days. So even if gas does go up to $5/gallon, we'll still drive. The way I look at it, how much is convenience worth to me? When you fly, you have to deal with airport security, worrying about keeping luggage under 50 lbs, losing 1/2 day due to transportation to your home airport and from the Orlando airport, wondering how you are going to get souvenirs home while still keeping said luggage under 50 lbs, having to make extra arrangements for groceries. Plus we are taking a side trip to Anna Maria Island at the end of our trip, so we'd have the expense and hassle of a rental car for that trip. So I guess, for us (DINK's who only go to Disney World every 2-3 years) the rising cost of gas stings a little but wouldn't deter us from driving. And of course, this is all without mentioning that as the cost of gas goes up, so does the cost of flying. Those planes don't run on Pixi Dust! So that does shrink the cost gap between flying and driving.

ok, i talked to a friend of mine who has gone this way. i have never tried it. he said it beats sitting in traffic. i95 into florida. take i295 around jacksonville and pick up rt17 south. its not an interstate but its a nice ride he said. you will hit i4 between deltona and sanford.
looking at the map, it dont look bad. your going through towns but atleast your moving not sitting.
i would say if your getting into the daytona area late at night, you should be ok. good luck.

February 23. Hmm. For us, March 23 could be the time to depart for another 2,000+ mile round-trip drive.

All the best.

We always go about three hours before we make our first stop at one of the MD rest stops; however, this time we will also top of the tank because we don't want to make a stop around 4 a.m. in VA for gas. Again, this is based upon us leaving in good weather at 11 p.m.

All the best.

Only downfall is that it is a "wildcard" reservation, so we won't know what we're getting until we pick it up the night of the 23rd. We will plan for small, but may end up with lots of room to spare.

Car is all packed. Now we just wait... kids are at school, me & husband at work. Planning to leave today by 3:15pm (just as a snowstorm moves into our area!).
Spending the night in Deleware and then on to Orlando tomorrow! Soooo excited!
