Has anyone ever driven to WDW on (or near) Thanksgiving? Lots of traffic everywhere?

All the best.

We drove down to WDW leaving on Thanksgiving Eve 2009. I remember it being pretty smooth sailing all the way except for a DUI checkpoint on 83 below Harrisburg. At first I thought it was an accident with all the flood lights. When I pulled up the the State Cop he motioned for me to roll down the window. First button rolled down the back window. Second button unlocked the doors. Third button & finally the drivers window goes down. I explained that I was driving DHs car & knew all the other stuff, but just hadn't figured I'd need the windows. All this time his head is hanging in the window checking to see if there is a smell of alcohol. LOL

When we told him we were headed to Orlando he said we had a long drive and to be careful and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

We made it to Georgia by about 4 in the morning & pulled into a State Police monitored roadside rest stop to nap for a few hours before continuiing on to WDW.

The worst part of going over holidays is that the Welcome Center in Florida is closed & we don't get our orange juice.

you should of asked the trooper, "can you hold my beer while i try to figure how to roll up the passenger window." glad you made it safely. i sat two hours today on rt33. there was a huge semi wreck. i hope everyone was ok.

I was too excited to be heading to Disney and my mind was on the long drive ahead. I don't think too quick on my feet or on my butt when I am in the situation. Can think of lots of things to say about an hour later.

As far as the accident on 33, hate to say this, but I heard 1 dead, on the news. Sounded really bad.

Thirty-six or so hours to go!

Please keep us posted on construction in GA and gas prices along the way. We're getting ready to return next month.

All the best.

We drove to Disney before Thanksgiving in 2006. We left tuesday evening, from Kansas City to Clarksville, and from Clarksville to Orlando on Wednesday. Traffic was insane. We had driven the route before and ran into horrible traffic in both Chatanooga and Atlanta. I think it took 2 hours to get through Atlanta?

CLAIRE!!!! glad to see you guys made it down and back!!!! i hope you guys had a great time. just keep thinking, one day you and chris will be in the back of the van and the kids can do all the driving. that would be about a two hour shift for each one. i forgot to look, are you doing a trip report? tell chris to head over to the new thread, guess who they named it after? spell a few words wrong and look what they do!!

I will definitely be doing a trip report, hopefully some time this weekend I can get it started. I will definitely tell Chris to pop over there....he put a pic of him and his first dole whip up but it kinda got trampled over by the old thread closing, so I dont think anyone saw it. I mean who wants to look at him when they can see ahem....well you know what was on there.....

well I mean, thats what I heard anyway....I would never ever peek.

Firs time driving--tell me everything!

We will be driving to Fla for the Christmas holiday--haven't done this since I was a kid so don't really remember much. We are planning on driving straight through- myself, husband and 2 kids ages 13 and 8. Any advice would be appreciated best route, best places for gas, rest stops etc. We are leaving from central PA.
