I'd like a second opinion

I know we're still a year out but I was playing around with our route on Google Maps last night. The shortest route goes from Minnesota through St. Louis then over to Nashville and south to Orlando. The route through Chicago and Indianapolis then into Nashville. The second route is about an hour longer and 80 miles further. The first route has lots of US Highways while the second is all Interstate.

DW likes the first route because it is shorter and avoids Gary Indiana. I like the second because we will be on Interstates the whole way and will have rest stops and exits spaced fairly close together. I think that is more important when traveling with a couple of 5 year olds than traveling an extra 80 miles. I figure we can make up that extra hour by going 5 mph slower than the Illinois cars through Wisconsin.

Which route sounds better to the travel experts?
Thanks

i would stick to the interstates. your speed on the interstate will make up for messing around going through little towns.

dvczerfs: We're glad that you made it safe and sound. And thanks for the photos (more of them, please, when you have time. Perhaps a group shot with jungle cruiser?).

Enjoy!

All the best.

I'm seriously thinking a September trip is in our future. Your pics of OKW are beautiful! For some reason, that resort has always been off my radar. I guess I felt like it must be second rate since that was where they were sending value resort overbooks a few years ago.

How is the weather? That would be our determining factor. 70s are perfect for me, 80s I can manage, 90s are pushing it for me. Morning and evening is when we are out and about, dh needs a rest in the afternoon.
