The cupcake decorating class looks like a blast! Too bad they don't have an intermediate class for the preteens. Hmmmm...maybe something to suggest to guest relations?

So, RCI isn't immune to the dreaded character meet and greet line-cutters either, eh? What a shame people insist on doing this...and honestly...they are always older folks. Hmmph!

Intrigued by what "Splash" means!

We do have a Johnny Rockets at the mall that we choose to not go to very often. We love the Cracker Barrel also we go when we are going on a trip.

Uber-enjoying your TR as always Jen! I saw an ad for one of those "Brava" all you can eat meat places when we were in Niagara Falls last weekend and thought of your experience on the ship.

Only 51 days until we are back on the Magic again ... can't wait ....

I have read all of your updates. Great report. Is the ship as huge as it looks? I'm debating our first cruise and was sent to read your report by another DISer to compare cruise lines. I think I'd get lost on this ship.

Cupcake classes - how fun! With the sound of the dance class in the background, maybe they could do correographed decorating!

Looking forward to that "surprise' I stumbled on earlier!

Splash!

Although none of us were really ready for it yet, dinner time had arrived!

Tonight we had reservations in the Main Dining Room (MDR) for 7:15. We arrived on time to the Adagio MDR- Deck 5 at the My Time Dining (MTD) podium for reservations to no queue at all. There was a long line for the “no reservations” side.

The Adagio Dining room is elegantly appointed. It is a full three levels high, with a stunning crystal chandelier and live orchestra:

We were quickly escorted in to our table on the top level of the room- a 6 top round to ourselves. Our servers this evening were Leslie from Jamaica and assistant Jose from Mexico. They were quite good. Leslie was a bit more personable, but service was really good from both. We let them know we had reservations for the OceanAria show at 9:30, and they promised we would be out in plenty of time to get a good seat. They were absolutely right, I was so impressed by the performance of the serving teams in the MDR coordinating all these varied show times and dinner for 5,300 passengers!

We started off the evening with some bread. It isn’t a RCCL cruise without some of their signature rolls called Savory Bites!

Those little poppy seed bread nuggets are all the rage on Cruise Critic!

Notice how the carpet matches the drap-errrr- the plates….?

The kids had lemonade to drink and Ron and I had iced tea-(free options).

Now I still...STILL...felt terribly full from Johnny Rockets earlier, so I would only be having soup, salad, and dessert this evening (and could barely manage that!)

I started out with the Caprese Salad, fresh mozzarella and tomatoes. Delicious!

Savannah had some fruit she looks like she couldn’t be more excited about!

Ron and my little seafood lover Brendan both had the Scallop Risotto, Sea Scallops with mascarpone Risotto/ Brendan liked the scallop, but didn’t care for the risotto. Ron liked it, to my recollection.

The kids’ entrees were soon out; both girls had spaghetti with meat sauce. This was the “Italian” menu so that fit in nicely. Although you do remain in the same dining room nightly, each evening does have a differently themed menu.

Rona and Brendan both had the Garlic Tiger Shrimp- Large shrimp in a garlic sauce reminiscent of shrimp scampi, with rice and fresh vegetables. They liked it a lot!

I had Strawberry Bisque:

It was good, very light and tangy!

We liked the additions of the flat screens in the dining room that displayed Britto artwork. Here’s one of my favorites:

All smiles…for now…

And soon the rest of us would be all smiles, when THIS was brought to our table:

Warm chocolate Cake with milk chocolate sauce topped with roasted pears and peanut brittle: Sinful!!!

Okay, I also had Tiramisu. It was pretty good also.

And you can never…NEVER get too much ice cream:

I know earlier I had swore I would never eat another bite, but somehow I managed. We were all feeling that way, I think.

Sure enough we were finished with dinner by 8:40, plenty of time to change into more comfortable clothes and head down to the Aquatheater for the 9:30 OceanAria performance. I don't know about you, but I was ready for a splash of excitement!

Splash! (Part 2)

It was finally time for us to see the signature show onboard Allure of the Seas: OceanAria!

OceanAria is the show crafted specifically for the Aquatheater. It is a combination of synchronized swimming, diving, acrobatics, tumbling/gymnastics, dancing, aerial work, strength and flexibility- you name it, it’s in this show.

The biggest recommendation I can give when it comes to the Aquatheater- ESPECIALLY for OceanAria, is that you can’t arrive TOO EARLY. We walked up at 8:50 PM, 40 minutes before the start of the show and could not believe how full it already was. We had read the best seats for the show were in the center section about halfway back. When I saw quite a few open seats in that area I went RIGHT for them immediately. I should have been more curious as to why so many prime seats were open when so much of the rest of the theater was full. I would soon find out why- GOLD seating. When I reached that area there was a sign and a staff member there saying it was for GOLD sea passes only and I thought about how we were GOLD members, and – uh- NO, NOT THE SAME THING!! Actual Gold Sea Passes are for suite guests- we are lowly Gold Crown & Anchor members. LOL. I felt pretty foolish for even thinking something so silly, but we quickly scrambled and hoped to find some decent seating still left!
We managed to get the front row of actual beach chairs on the right side of the theater. In the Aquatheater, the first few rows- the splash zone- is bench seating, then three rows back the actual chairs start and then every other row is alternating bench and beach chair seating. The chairs are much, MUCH more comfortable!!! The seats weren’t bad at all. In fact we had quite a nice view.

Of course, the kids wanted to be in the splash zone!

Still lots of chairs left towards the end of the theater on both sides!

Bar Service was available and I ordered a Pina Colada. Ron wanted a Bush Whacker and the waiter didn’t think they could make it. What? I didn’t think a Bush Whacker was that exotic. They managed to make it, but Ron said it was just OK.

The kids were delighted when their friends from the club showed up. Their family set next to us and we enjoyed chatting about St. Thomas and excursions we had planned for the next day.

As with Ice Games, and any show, no flash photography was permitted so my pictures aren’t that good, sorry! The videos are worth a look though- trust me! (And I grabbed a few stunners off the 'net).

As the show prepared to begin there was a cute skit with the “tourist” lady roaming the theater for the perfect seat. Here she is sitting on the table between Sarah’s chair and the next chair:

That one wasn’t center enough for her so she moved here:

But that seat wasn’t close enough so she set up right on the pool deck:

Yea Lady, I’m talkin to YOU!

You know how this one is going to end right?

*SPLASH!*

You know what was cool? The cast of Ice Games watching from the bench in front of us:

It was fun to watch them react to the amazing skills just like we were reacting to their awesome performance the previous day!

And on with the show!

(continued in Part 3)

Splash! (Part 3)

So here is the story of OceanAria- not that it really needed much story. This show is really all about the amazing cirque-style acrobatics, diving, swimming, and tricks:

These two were right over my head:

I still cant get over the aerial work. This trapeze artist was so good:

(video- click to play)

So much to watch- it's almost like sensory overload

(video- click to play)

This show was so thoroughly entertaining. It was fascinating. Do NOT miss it!!!! It's just mind blowing when you think about all of these stunts- and 10m high dives- performed on the back of a MOVING cruise ship!!!

The strong men were fascinating:

(video: click to play)

A high dive from the very itty bitty tippy top(!)

Video (click to play):

The kids enjoyed this humorous interlude!

(video- click to play)

Some pretty awesome aerial ring work: (video- click to play!)

And the awesome trampoline acrobatics! You can hear Sarah squealing as the "Ringmaster" splashes her! (video- click to play)

It really was a lot like a circus almost- no matter which direction you turn amazing stuff was going on!

(video- click to play)

And the cast, rising out of the depths! (I know I'm not the only one wishing this pool was accessible to passengers! Springboards, diving boards, rising platforms, adjustable depth, fountains! Think of the fun you could have in that one! LOL!)

video- click to play)

The Cast of OceanAria doing a photo with a VIP passenger, (I think it might have been a WISH trip)

When we got back to the room we realized Po (Kung Fu Panda) was going to be out doing M&G for 5 more minutes! We rushed down and made it at 10:29. No line, just enough time to run up for a photo and then Po split! Perfect timing!

That’s it for the day, we were wiped out! Try as we might, we just could not stay up past 11:30.

Dinner looked great! I'm really thinking I would love to do an Allure cruise some day!

I'm sitting on the edge of my seat, in the Splash Zone, so I have my umbrella in hand, waiting for Part 3!

Yes, it was one of a few things I wanted to put on my comment card but ran out of room! A children's, teen/pre-teen, and adult options would be optimal, for sure.

LOL, According to Ron they looked like the sweetest little old ladies, but they were playing stupid and acting like they didn't know it was a "line" but nobody was letting them squeeze in. Heh. The good thing is though, this was the only real long line of the week- it is way better than looooong the lines on DCL for sure!

Me too! I wanted to take the class myself to get to make that one but they don't guarantee which design you will get to make so I decided not to. The Lion- which is the other one they do in the adult classes- I am pretty sure I can already do!

It is!!! We were surprised by how many participants and how much attention the classes had onboard. A huge crowd would settle in at Sorrentos and Promenade Cafe to watch! Fun!!!

Excited for you, it's going to be terrific!!! I'm finally up to the first port now! And the best thing is- our first excursion is one you can do through DCL too! (Believe it or not , it's $10 CHEAPER through DCL than RCCL!)

It is pretty darn big!!! Getting around it isn't so bad, once you are used to the layout which is actually pretty similar to the other RCCL ships. The worst part for sure is going forward to aft. Sometimes I was forward and wanted something aft and was like "uuughhhhh"- it's quite a long walk... but most of the time getting around wasn't so bad. We never had any issues getting elevators or anything like that, and with all the signage and touchscreens we didn't get lost! Although we had done so much research beforehand we knew where everything was! LOL!

Haha! Yeah it was really hard to hear the girl doing the class, and she had a thick accent too so I had to repeat her instructions for the girls sometimes.

Yeah that was so funny, we were just chilling int he room and it was queit and Ron says "Where's Sarah?" and we looked at eachother, looked at the closed bathroom door and both groaned. She managed to get that blue icing- everywhere! It was on the wall, towels, shower.... and of course, on her!

I think you should! I know I've told you the bees don't go up that high so you'll be safe! LOL There were some flies in Central Park though. I was thinking hmmm....did they bring those in too? You don't normally see flies out at sea! (It wasn't a lot of them, only a couple, just enough to make me wonder how they got there!)

Jen, so sorry, I have been something of a stranger to this report - I lost track of it while we were away in October and (I'm ashamed to admit) haven't managed to catch up since.

Anyhoo, I went back to the beginning and started again and now I am all caught up. All I can say is 'Wow!' Either you are a really good trippie writer (which we know you are) or this ship is just amazing! Every time I finished reading a segment, I would turn to DH and say 'I wanna go on this ship!!!' Of course he already knows that since I have been going on and on about it for ever. I found a cracking itinerary, sailing through the Panama Canal which just happens to coincide with my 40th Birthday so, of course, I am hoping against all hope that he will go ahead and book it. He has pretty much said that, if he can get another permanent job by the middle of the year (he is due to be made redundant between June and December) then we can go

It is the Vision of the Seas, rather than the Oasis or Allure, and I am assuming there are many differences. I would still love to sail the Oasis or Allure but I think DH would prefer a different itinerary.

Anyway, keep up the good work - I'm back on board now (pardon the pun) and anxiously waiting for more. Looking forward to seeing what you did at St Thomas since we only did Paradise Point there in October on our DCL cruise.

WOW that show looks amazing!! Does that only perform once for the week? Are the dining times on RCCL different than how DCL works?
