Hi. We will be in the world next week and are planning to take out iPad with us. We are staying at animal kingdom lodge and port Orleans French quarter. Will we have paid/free access to wifi at resorts? Thanks!!!!

No free wifi. I had to use the 3G on my iPad in June. I do not know if AKL or POFQ have wifi or the wired internet. I know before I had my iPad and I stayed at the cabins at FW it was wired, but I bought a mifi device so that I could connect to my laptop. It is around $10 for 24 hours of internet at the hotels.

No free Internet at any Disney resorts (except MAYBE various test programs underway) and no WiFi at all except for the public areas at the convention resorts (CR,GF, YC/BC, BWI and CSR). As noted, all Internet at WDW is $9.95 for 24 consecutive hours or access.

3G on your iPad for a month is $25. that's way cheaper than paying $10 a day for WDW internet.

Your Ipad has to be 3g capable (you would have paid about $150 more for it) otherwise your only option in many resorts that only have wired connections is to get a mifi, which forces you to either pay about $350 to buy the mifi device, or commit to two years of service to subsidize the cost of the device.

So, Ipads and Ipods, that have no connections that normal computers have, may not be a good option in some resorts, even if you wanted to pay $10/day. You many want to consider bringing a laptop if you have one, then you know you can either go wired or wireless. AKL has wired connections in room, can't remember if they had any wifi in the public areas. POFQ is most likely a retro-fit for wifi, but considering it's size, your coverage may vary.

MiFi devices work well as does tethering to your iPhone. The Mifi devices allow to connect up to 5 devices and they are small and very portable. You can get them prepaid too.

I did not pay $350 for my MiFi device. I paid about $150 from Virgin Mobile but I have seen them even cheaper than that. ** Update** Virgin Mobile's MiFi has dropped to about $122 and there's one called Best Buy Connect(also prepaid ) that is $99.

You would have to have the 3g model iPad. As someone said before it would have cost you more when you bought it. If you do have it on your iPad it will work great!! I've used my 3g iPad on several trips and it's great!

If you want to use it in the room just get yourself a travel router (available everywhere) and plug it into your rooms Ethernet internet connection. Wammo, you now have wifi in your room for the cost of $10 per 24 hrs. If you want to use it where ever then that would be a "Franklin Fix"... spend the money for a 3G enable tablet from Verizon, Tmobile or so on. Not cheap but is actually a very nice unit, dual processor etc...

Thanks all! We do not have 3G on our iPad so we've decided to take our laptop to gain Internet access at the world. I really appreciate all your feedback.
