Introducing Disboutique Runway - inspired by Project Runway. Each week our talented and creative Disboutiquers will create a beautiful project inspired by Disney. The week will have a theme and a few rules to challenge our creativity. We ask that you take a look and vote for you favorite project.

It has been great fun to challenge ourselves and see what we can make.
This week is going to stretch our abilites just a little more...

Disboutique Runway - Week 6

Challenge: Make an outfit inspired by any Disney character.

Rules:
1. Must be made during the challenge period. (Can't be something you have made before)
2. Must be made from a pattern/tutorial that you have never used before, or make your own.
3. You must modify some portion of the pattern/tutorial to make it your own. (ie: change type of strap, modify length, modify hem line, add buttons, add zipper....)
4. Include the pattern that used (or let us know you made your own) and the modifications that you used with the submission photos.



Each designers name will be a secret until voting has stopped. Each DisMemeber will get one vote. The winner of the most votes will be the Disboutique Sewing Princess. The grand prize winner will be declared the Disboutique Sewing Queen, which will be determined by all the votes cast within the contest period.

This competition is for fun and to provide a challenge for us who love to sew. If you would like to join in the challenge feel free to join us on our main thread. Without further adu...may I present Disney characters, Disboutique style.

Project 1

My Entry is Inspired by Jessie...and all that interests her.
I used an old pair of DS overalls to make a dress for DD. There was no pattern, I did use aimee g's tutorial (top of the disboutique thread) for the measurements for the skirt...allowing for the seam allowances of the patchwork...I used a 1:2 ratio for the measurements so it would be an almost circle patchwork skirt. Many of the patches are embroidered and/ or embelished. My favorites are actually "Yeehaw!" & "I know Buzz's Spanish Mode". The dress is ankle length on DD (according to measurements this dress is a surprise and its not time for her to see it yet) and should fit her for a couple of years as it gets shorter. I did get to use my cording foot for the first time, and so thankful for the rolled hem on the serger....given the last ruffle was about 7 yards length before the gathering. This is my first dress with more than one applique. The applique on the pocket was stiched onto scrap jeans, cut out and sewn by hand to the pocket.

Project 2 -

My favorite character is Tinkerbell and I'm also a big fan of all the fairy movies. One of my daughter's many nicknames is Tinkerbell as well.

I've never used this pattern before, but was inspired to by another Disboutiquer. It's the Spiral skirt pattern sold on You Can Make This, and I combined it with Carla C's Simply Sweet halter top. I also modified the pattern by adding the frill on the bottom hem and adding flounces between the gores.

Project 3 -

I used 2 new patterns and combined the bodice from one with the skirt from the other.

I used the Natalie Dress (from Olabelhe) for the bodice. I love the low scoop in back with the big bow. Next I used a pattern called Nanny Etticoat (from Ellie Inspired) for the skirt. This is basically a tiered skirt with an underskirt. The underskirt has a layer of tulle at the bottom to help give some poof to the over skirt.

I have had both of these patterns for some time, but have never used either one in the past.

I decided to do a vintage minnie theme for the dress:

Project 4 -

101 Dalmatians is my favorite movie so I made this outfit for my daughter for our next trip. It is a bit large on her as I made it a size bigger to allow for growth between now and our vacation.

The pattern I used for the top is a dress pattern by Farbenmix called Olivia. I have never made it before. I made several alterations. First I changed the underdress into a shirt. I also made it multilayered to have different fabrics incorporated with serged lettuce edging. I also angled the sleeves at the wrists for a tapered effect. The leggings likewise was a new pattern, again by Farbenmix called Riviera leggings. The only alteration I made to this was in the seat so they would fit my skinny daughter better, and I also serged the ankles instead of hemming.

The skirt is a pattern I made up on my own featuring an appliqued apron on the front and a double bustle ruffle on the back. I did not base this off any other patterns ~ I just made it according to my daughter's measurements with increasing the length a bit to allow for growth.

And then I made a coordinating dress for my daughter's American Girl doll featuring an appliqued paw print. I made this pattern up solely on my own, using the Olivia pattern as an inspiration.

Project 5-

This is a Cinderella dress made from a pattern from Ottobre Magazine. This pattern started as a long sleeve dress with a zipper. I decided to remove the sleeves and changed zipper to buttons.

Project 6 -

This dress is based on my favourite character, Minnie Mouse. I tried to make the dress somewhat subtle so it can worn outside WDW/DL. The dress was based on Simplicity 9861 dress/jumper pattern. I made the hem line approximately 20" wider to make it easier to walk around in it. I also added the bottom border (polka dot) which was not in the original pattern. I also added a polka dot bow sash based on Carla's pattern. I reduced it to about 1/2 size as I wanted a smaller bow.

Project 7 -

The theme is from our other favorite movie Finding Nemo, probably more of a family favorite since the girls are outnumbered in my fam LOL

I used another pattern I've never made before the Zoe Skirt and changed it up a little by adding the dangles and adding a Simply Sweet pattern bodice. I modified the bodice as well with a faux button front.

Project 8

I think this is my favorite thing I've ever made! Obviously my character of choice was Mickey himself!! I used the Stella One Shoulder dress from ycmt.com. I had just purchased this pattern and was going to use a different one for this dress, but with the rules I thought this would work! I changed a few things....adjusted the bodice so it had a panel I could embroider, made the skirt into a strip skirt and added a ruffle on the bottom. It's a really great pattern!

Don't mind the fact that it doesn't fit on the dress form. It's a little larger than my daughter and she was asleep when I took the pics! Thanks for looking!!

Project 9 -

I made a Simply Sweet (my own version) with a circle skirt (never made before). The shorts are also a pattern I made.
