2014-15 Boston Bruins Thread

Welcome back to Bruins hockey!

It is a new start, to a new season. Though, the Bruins won the President's Trophy, I think we all agree that the Bruins should've gone farther in the playoffs. Not to take anything away from the Habs. They played a great series. But the breakdowns by the B's up and down the line-up and even behind the bench, were glaring.

This off-season was probably the most quiet and uneventful in recent memory. The only rumblings were the potential Boychuk trade, which finally came to pass, last week. There were no trades or free agent signings. The most excitement, came from the rookie camp, when we were introduced to Bruins top draft pick, David Pastrnak. And, we had a little drama with the Krug/Smith hold out. But that was quickly resolved. But the biggest loss the Bruins suffered, was in the loss of Shawn Thornton. Not only was the Shawn-father popular with the fans, but he was a real voice for the the team in the dressing room. He will be missed.

Which brings us to the here... and now.

With the exception of Boychuk, Thornton and Iginla (signed as a free agent with the AV's), the team is pretty much the same as last year. A couple of things of note though. Seidenberg is healthy, and hopefully that will remain a constant theme. We will be starting with the 2nd line of Marchand-Bergeron-Smith together from the jump. Soderberg proved that he can center an NHL line and do all of the duties that the position entails. And the fans KNOW that there is a wealth of talent in Providence that can step up and fill in, in a pinch.

Last season ended with a whimper let's see if we can BEGIN AND END THIS SEASON WITH A BANG!!!!!

Let's go BRUINS!!!!!

I'm in and excited for the season opener tonight. I've only just become interested in hockey (over the past 5+ years).

Sorry to stink up your Bruins thread, BDL, but this seemed a good place to post this story.

The Bruins started the season off on the right foot, with a 2-1 victory over the Flyers last night. But before I get to the game, let me begin with a PSA...

If you are planning on seeing the Bruins at the Garden this year, please...

EAT DINNER BEFORE YOU GO!!!!!!!

This is a serious warning. Along with the renovations, they have added new food stands, with drastically increased prices. Some examples are $9 slice of pizza, $15 double burger (no single burger available), $16 for steak and cheese or a chicken sandwich, and $18 for 3 small tacos. BDLsgal made the joke that we would have to get on Pawn Stars just to afford to eat. It would almost be cheaper to eat at the Capitol Grille before the game than to eat at the Garden. There are a couple of Frank Houses still left, where you can get "reasonably" priced items. Also, if you were a fan of Boston Pops, the flavored pop corn stand, I'm sorry. But it was replaced by a loaded chip stand. 1 positive, they turned the whole Xfinity Lounge area from last year, into a bar area.

On to the game.

The players were definitely energized, last night. Especially, those that may be considered to have marginally made the team. Cunningham was a cannon ball on skates, for the 1st 2 periods. And "Rockin'" Bobby Robins (trademark pending) made his presence known in his NHL debut. He had a fight 1/2 way through the 2nd period. And even though he was dropped to his knees, he sprung back up and won the fight.

The scoring began about 1 minute into the 1st PP opportunity. Soderberg sent a backdoor pass to Smith where he snapped it past Mason. The next score didn't happen until 4 minutes into the 3rd period. Couturier deflected Voracek's shot past Rask. Then there was a glimmer of hope. The refs had to go to the replay (YAYYYYYY! ). The that hope was ripped away (boooooooo ). The rest of the 3rd period was a steady stream of opportunities and saves. With 3 minutes to go, the excitement was starting to get to me, and I started to feel the "calling". Luckily there was no line, so I'd be back in my seat for OT. In the men's room, there are 7 urinals and 2 stalls, and they were all occupied. All of us were listening intently to the crowd and the Goucher and Beers broadcast that was being piped in. And in a matter of 4 seconds, the crowd went silent, then erupted, the goal horn sounded, all 9 of us in the men's room SIMULTANEOUSLY yelled out S#!T !, and all 9 of us (at differing stages of readiness / I had washed my hands) go running out both doors to see the time delay broadcast of the goal on the screens over the closest concession stand. WHOOOOOOO!!!! There was a last surge by the Flyers, that made it a nail biting ending.

What a great way to end the night. Or so you'd think. It took us 90 minutes to drive from the Gov't Center Garage to Newton Corner. Now this does not include the time in the garage. From the time we got on the street, to the time we got to Newton Corner, took us 90 minutes. To put it in context for those that don't know the area, Yahoo Maps says the duration of the trip should be "16 mins 8.69 mi" . The reason for the long commute, 2 of the 3 lanes were closed for 1 dump truck and 2 statie cruisers. As someone who has had to wear an orange reflective vest for work, I understand the need for safety. But this was ridiculous. It's like someone in the state house said "You know what would be a good idea? Let's pretty much close down the road that 70% of the 18,000+ attendees of an event will use at the same time, to get home." Geeeeeez!!! Thank God the McDonald's drive thru stays open til midnight.

Tonight the Bruins are in Detroit. And tonight is the return of Jack and Brick. Hopefully, the B's can get another 2 points.

Well that should be a lesson for you and the 9 guys. "Resist the Calling"

Tonight should be tougher and not just because it's Detroit bur because of the B2B. Legs will always be an issue there.

Once again the B's had more PK's than PP's. I don't want them to become like some "other teams" and start, well, you know. But I would like them to be a little more aggressive in drawing penalties this year.

Think getting the GWG will get Felger off Kelly's back for one day?

It is a dark day for Bruins fans. For many different reasons.

1) The undefeated season is over. Last night's game was awful. Howard played 7 games of solitaire before he even had to face a shot. Granted, the 1st shot was a goal by "Saint" Patrice, but still. After that, the B's just looked sloppy. Then, to throw some salt in the wound, Bergy missed over 1/2 a period due to concussion protocols. It was ugly.

2) With last night's loss and Montreal's win, they are in 1st place of the Flor-theast

3) Speaking of the Habs, their entire fan base woke up with Carpal Tunnal syndrome. They all got that from pointing their finger at Marchand last night for picking up the 1st flopping penalty of the season. As soon as it happened, I knew what the repercussions would be. It happened. It's done. We have to live with it.

Tomorrow night, the B's welcome AO and the Caps to the Garden. Hopefully, they can pull it together by then.

Let's Go Bruins!!!!!!!

And to be fair it goes both ways. As for Marshmont getting the embellishment, hopefully Claude will put him to work washing uniforms to pay off his fine.

Awful, awful weekend. Just nothing went right. No matter what decisions were made, or what actions were taken, no good came of them. But enough about how awful my fantasy football and hockey teams did.

OH MY FRIGGIN' GOD!!!!!

The Bruins couldn't have had more defensive breakdowns, even if they planned it. At some points, it looked like they listened to "Shooter" from Hoosiers too much and just formed a picket fence from goalie to blue line. Leaving both circles WIDE OPEN! That is where Ovechkin lives. My God, If there was a universe where Kessel was ever on the same line as AO, the score would've been 30-0.

The B's have 4 hrs to perform a cranial colonic, and get there heads where they belong... Back in the game.

.4 seconds... The bruins were .4 seconds away from OT. I can not offer an eye witness account (I was listening to Goush and Beers at work), but from the way it sounded, some responsible defense was actually being played. At least until 19:59.6 in the 3rd period.

But in BREAKING NEWS...

The Bruins just signed Gagne to a 1yr/$600k contract. Caron and Robins will be heading back to Providence.

Feel free to start posting what you think the lines will look like on Wed in Detroit.

Here's mine

Looch-Krejci-Gagne
Marshmont-Bergy-Smith
Eriksson-Soderberg-Fraser
Paille-Spooner-Kelly

Chara-McQuaid
Seidenberg-Hamilton
Miller-Krug
