HELP!! Real dilemma! Or am I...

….making more of this than it really is? I have been trying to book 5 days in October at either Bc/YC or AKL, whose price [with promo code] is better than the WDW website. However, I know that once the Fall rates at WDW get published, those rates will be better. Should I just go ahead and book with Orbitz, or should I book directly with WDW and HOPE that the price goes down?

I now, I know, EVERYONE should have this problem, right?

I struggled with that too I booked RR with Disney (YC) about 3 months ago and plan to keep that and watch for the fall discount and hope the 15% Orbitz code works still.

If the discounts aren't there and the Orbitz code is gone I am screwed because if I switched now to Orbitz I could take the $500 savings and run right now. It's a risk and I'm sweating it but I'm holding out for the fall discounts.

I do have some flexibility with my dates so I do have that going for me but yeah I may need therapy by the time I get this trip sorted out

I've never booked through Orbitz, but I have looked into the deals they have been running lately, and it looks like you can cancel for a full refund (although you do have to pay in full at time of booking). With that said, if you can cancel and get a full refund, I'd book now with Orbitz and if a better deal comes out with Disney, cancel Orbitz and rebook through Disney.

.actually, I was thinking of booking through Orbitz (yeah, it stinks that I have to pay the full balance up front) AND booking also directly through Disney [room only] and just have to pay the first night. If a better deal comes up through Disney [Fall rates] then perhaps I can just cancel Orbitz at that time and change my Disney ressies when the better rates come inor am I overthinking this and putting out more $$ than I have to?

If booking through Disney would be rack rate, I'd wait to see what discounts come out for your dates as having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied. It also means that's one less room Disney needs to fill, which could lessen the number of rooms offered at a discount later.

Kimmar: just my opinion, but since you're asking for opinions here goes!!

You are assuming Fall rates, when released, will be better. You should know by now - nothing is guaranteed with Disney!! Every time we think we have things figured out, they throw us a curve!!

IF the Orbitz rate is cancelable and lower than booking direct with Disney, BOOK IT!!! If Orbitz can't be canceled, then I would book direct - unless you can get a rate of 35% or greater off WDW rack rate through Orbitz.

You are going at a very popular time of year: Food & Wine Festival AND Halloween! If you have your heart set on staying at YC/BC or AKL, BOOK the room now so you don't end up with regrets. Personally, I'd opt for an Epcot resort first (for F&WF), but AKL is a very close 2nd and I'd be happy with either!

Now get to work booking!!

Kimmar...

You have to do what you are comfortable with, it is a risk you have to be willing to take. Can you put all that money out and wait to find out?

Are you willing to be locked into one and price drop happen and are not able to book at the new rate...

This is just too personnel to ask for input...

Have you considered trying to book a AAA room only rate yourself for the fall?
Those discounts are around 15%, and may be a bit better (now) that what is offered on orbitz. (And with WDW you only owe one night, rather than the entire balance on orbitz)

.that sounds like a good idea, but I'm not a member of AAA...

If fall discounts come out, I don't know that BC/YC will have much for rooms. Those resorts are popular choices due to the Food & Wine Fest at Epcot.

.I think it's time for me to call WDW DIRECTLY and ask them specifically if I can transfer an already-existing ressie to apply a new Fall discount (if available)..

They will say certainly. Lots of us do this... Start with the best deal when booking, and then switch to the better deal.
You may not be able to get all your days at the best rate. If not, grab what you can and split your stay. You can add a day at a time... Check regularly.

If you have the money now and you're not going to miss it, I would book Orbitz ONLY if you could get a full refund if you cancel. And then if Disney comes out with a better deal, you can get the refund and book with Disney.

And I would book YC/BC simply because of the proximity to F&W. I really enjoyed being able to stroll across the IG and snack to my heart's content.
