Goodbye Dream...Hello Disney World!

Sunday, September 4th

6am-8am

After waking up in Port Canaveral, we quickly got dressed and finished getting packed. Note that suitcases had to be placed outside your stateroom door between 8:30pm and 10:30pm on the previous night, if you want them delivered to the terminal. I honestly thought it would take them hours to collect luggage, so I figured I had time. However, it was right at 10:30pm when I heard attendants in the hall, strapping everyone's suitcases together and pulling them away in a single visit. They weren't fooling around! Since we only managed to get one suitcase outside our door, we ended up keeping the other suitcase and carry-on bags, so that we could finish packing.

We did a final check of the room, to ensure the safe was empty and nothing was left behind. Then we proceeded to our 6:45am breakfast at the Royal Palace, which is where we had dinner the previous night. For the sake of time, we ordered quick items like yogurt and pastries. During breakfast, one of our girls needed a potty break, so we had to cross the atrium to the closest bathroom. I was surprised at the long line that had already formed to exit the ship. Considering debarkation was stated as beginning at 7:30am, I figured most people would be grabbing a bite to eat, rather than waiting in line. However, after returning from the bathroom, we saw that they were already letting people off the ship around 7:20am. We hurried back to the restaurant and wrapped up our meal. By the time we got back to the atrium, the line had already diminshed and was proceeding nicely around 7:30am. Similar to the embarkation process, getting off the ship was a breeze. We virtually didn't stop walking from the time we left the ship to the time we were back in our car. It was just one constantly moving line, with a brief pause to find our luggage, which happened quickly. On a side note, even though your luggage will have identification tags on it from Disney, I strongly suggest placing some other identifying item on your luggage, so that you can spot it from a distance. After finding our luggage, Customs checked our passports briefly, we walked past the luggage-sniffing dog, and that was it! It was around 8am when we paid our parking fee and took a final snapshot of the ship as we drove away!

8am-10pm

So, after a bittersweet goodbye to the Dream, we were on our way to Disney World! We were pleasantly surprised at how quickly we arrived there by car, just about an hour. We pulled into the Port Orleans French Quarter resort around 9am, checked-in, and then headed to Magic Kingdom for the day. We have never visited WDW in the Fall, so I was surprised to see it was nicely decorated already! We stayed there all day and left after our 7:30pm dinner reservation at Tony's was complete. At that time, our feet hurt, we were exhausted, and we were looking forward to resting up for our long drive home the next day. We woke up in the morning, had breakfast at the resort, and was on our way home by 9am on Labor Day Monday. All in all, it was a wonderful vacation!

Wonderful TR! I cannot wait to go on our cruise! I wrote down many of your suggestions so I would remember them in April.

Fish Extender Gifts--Thursday

Some quick background: Because I was traveling with a party of 9, we did not participate in a formal FE. Since this was everyone's first Disney cruise, rather than explain FE's to them beforehand, I decided to surprise each cabin with daily gifts!

Even though this cruise was booked 15 months in advance, I somehow "ran out of time" to make my own Fish Extender! Thankfully, I had enough Disney totes to make it work. And honestly, they worked out better than anything I could have made. Plus, I saw many homemade FE's that had very shallow pockets. Since some of the gifts I brought were large, I was happy to have a tote that was long enough to store everything safely.

For the first day, I decided to give each cabin 2 toiletry bags filled with "essentials" that they may need or may have forgotten to bring. I thought this was appropriate for the first day, so that once guests started unpacking, hopefully they wouldn't fret if they realized they forgot something. The 'Minnie' Survival Kit (get it, mini?) included: a travel pack of Clorox disinfecting wipes, a travel pack of Advil, one Shout stain remover wipe, a tube of Banana Boat 30 SPF sunscreen, and a tube of 15 SPF Chapstick. The Bare Necessities Kit included an assortment of 10 different sized Band-aids (from knuckles to knees to waterproof varieties), 2 cleansing towelettes to help wipe any cuts or scrapes, a travel pack of Cars-themed tissues, and 1 travel-size hand sanitizer. Almost all of these were picked up from Target's travel-size section of toiletries and were about $1 each or less. I then placed all of these items in a clear, waterproof toiletry bag.

I jsut read through this. Looks like you had a great time. I love to see how others tour the ship...and gives me ideas for next time. 3 nights is just not enough. We are thinking of going to Atlantis next trip. I did the Aquarium tour many years ago, but it looks like things have changed over there since then.
I loved your family FE idea too. Very cute.

Yes, 3 nights turned out to be pretty brief, but we'll be doing another 3-nighter next year to make up for it!

A full day at Magic Kingdom seems like a great way to end the cruise before going back to normal life!

Thanks for explaining the FE. Looks fun.

Yay! I'm so glad you enjoyed the Dream and that the passport info helped. We decided to return next year and are so excited to get another chance to see everything we missed!

We were so excited to visit MK that final day. But next time, we are planning on visiting the parks before the cruise. One, it will work out better to get down there earlier than we did and, two, it will be nice to hit the parks first and then relax on the cruise afterwards.

And yes, the FE was alot of fun!
