Irene is not supposed to make landfall until tomorrow morning and it is already raining sideways and spawning tornados. I was about to try to get some sleep, but it is hard to do with all this brewing outside. Luckily our power has only blinked out a couple of times.
Good luck everyone!

NY Eyewitness News is covering your area now. It looks awful. Stay safe.

Latest News: Broadway, Mass Transit, & NJ Transit closed tomorrow. According to the news, NY Mass Transit has never been closed before. Storm will last 21-24 hours starting tomorrow night and go through Sunday. Governor Christie said to be ready for five days without power. Stay safe all.

Pixie Dust & Prayers from the Northshore of New Orleans.
After surviving Katrina with much help from our friends in the Northeast, we are all thinking of you and sending prayers. If they say evacuate, go now don't wait! Also, if you evacuate take insurance papers, pictures of your loved ones, and that cookbook with your Grandma's favorite recipes. Those are the things that people must regret having lost during Katrina.

On the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, police now tell those refusing to evacuate that they won't force them to leave as they have too many other people to help but they will not be able to come help them during the height of the storm. They then ask them to take a sharpee & write their name & SS# on the bottom of their foot so they will be able to be identified after the storm.

Stay safe!

It's true - even in the insane snow storm at Christmas, the subway still was not shut down!

Queens is like a ghost town - people are staying in already! We went out for a wine and cheese at the place down the block tonight and were surrounded by empty tables.

Charging my Kindle and my iPhone now.

Main thing...be smart!
Evacuate if told to. If you stay, for whatever reason, make every effort to have the ability to function for "several" days on your own with the possibility of no power, water, phones, etc. (hand sanitized can be your friend during these times)
Hurricane Ike left us with no power for 11 days...( except my generator. Of course, with most gas stations shut down, it can be difficult to run the generator without stocking up on many cans of gasoline.)

Best of luck to my "Yankee DISrs"

I'm just praying the power doesn't go out while the sump pump is working. Too late to find a back up generator as they have all been snatched up.

*sigh*

When things like this happen I can't sleep well....

It's not so much N Carolina and Virginia Beach I worry about...It what's going to happen in NYC in the next 38 hours.

I don't think a lot of people know what can happen when just a couple feet of water comes across their sidewalks.

I think putting on Mary Poppins will help me just a little bit.
