WDW Day 3, Magic Kingdom on NYE, Part 4.

Alrighty… where were we? Oh yeah. Thanks for reminding me.

We had just finished watching the “Celebrate the Season” show at the Castle. It was around 3:20pm now, and we’d yet to visit Adventureland, Frontierland, Tomorrowland, or Mickey’s Toontown Fair… so of course, we made our way back to Fantasyland!!

I think we were actually on our way to Toontown, but we saw the line for the Mad Tea Party wasn’t so bad. While on line, something happened that I’ve only seen once before. A character got on the ride! This time, it was the white rabbit who came out and got into an empty teacup just before the ride got underway. DW got a pretty good picture of it while I was videotaping.

When the ride stopped, the White Rabbit stayed on and the first family out of the next group was able to get into the teacup with him! That must have been cool! That was the group ahead of ours. But he was apparently too dizzy for a third ride in a row.

It was finally our turn to get our spin on. But we got a broken teacup that wouldn’t spin!!! Okay, I cannot tell a lie. The truth is that we were wimps. DD asked not to spin fast, and DW didn’t think it was such a good idea for three sick people to get dizzy… and I would have normally said, “sure, I’ll just spin us a little bit” and then proceeded to spin us as fast as I could… but I didn’t. So while everyone else was spinning, we just kind of floated around. It was still fun.

Being wimps on the teacups meant that we could walk a straight line to Mickey’s Toontown Fair, and one of my most favorite parts of this trip!

DD has only recently met the height requirement for certain rides, and she’s been talking up how she’s been going to go on everything since… well, since she could talk. But her follow-through up to this point has left a little to be desired. So I was curious to see how it would all play out as we approached Goofy’s Barnstormer (or Goofy's Brainstorm as DD calls it)

DD didn’t hesitate. So her and I got on line while DW went over to the Hall of Fame tent to do some shopping. I was excited. This was DD’s first roller coaster! I am a roller coaster/thrill ride nut! DW… not so much. So my diabolical plan to turn DD into a thrill ride nut like myself appeared to be off to a good start!!

The wait time was posted as 30 minutes, but I think we were up to the loading station in 15. As it worked out, we got the front seat!! Another favorable sign that my plan was working!! As we boarded the car, I had my first doubt. There was one lap bar for both of us, and it would only lower as far down as MY lap. So DD had something like 6 – 8 inches of space between herself and the safety bar.

I moved my left hand over her and poised to grab her at a moment’s notice. Meanwhile, my right arm was extended out and pointing the video camera back toward DD to capture it all on tape.

Moments later, we were off. DD was apprehensive as we got under way, but as we climbed that first incline and I asked if she was ready, DD raised both arms and let out a woot!

And then we hit the first dip…

It was priceless. My fears about the lap bar disappeared because DD was now holding on to both me and the car for dear life. She got a little less scared as the ride went on, but she never got daring enough to let go again until it was over. As we pulled back into the station, I asked her how it was. Her response: “It was TOO fast!”

I wonder what this means for my diabolical scheme?

If these pics are priceless... wait until you see THE VIDEO!!! go ahead, click on it!!

We went over to the tent and found DW so DD could tell her all about Goofy's Brainstorm. The lines for character greetings inside the tent were a bit long, so we opted out of those. DD wanted to go on Donald’s Boat, so I took her over there while DW relaxed a bit more.

We skipped Mickey’s tent because we saw Mickey and Minnie the day before at the DVC mixer. DD wanted to see Minnie’s house, but the line for that was outrageous! DW and I had experienced Minnie’s house with a crowd before, and it was not pleasant, so we bypassed that as well, much to the disappointment of DD.

We decided to head to Adventureland. It was a bit of a walk, and our route took us back through Fantasyland yet again. We were passing Mrs. Pott’s Cupboard and couldn’t resist stopping for a snack. A root beer float for DW, a chocolate shake for DD, and a vanilla shake for me!

While enjoying our treats, we noticed a line had formed in the middle of nowhere. Some CMs were handing out NYE hats and noisemakers. So I got on line and grabbed us four of each. (I know there was only 3 of us, but I thought that we still had about 7 hours until midnight and DD was bound to either lose or break hers in that time) I also rationalized it by saying that technically there were 4 of us, if you counted the one DW had been lugging around in her belly this whole trip.

I am not sure why we got the hats though. We had brought our own, even though I was the only one still wearing one!!

So, armed with the NYE paraphernalia, we continued our trek across the park, heading back through Liberty Square, Frontierland, and cutting over into Adventureland.

When we arrived there, we checked the line for the Jungle Cruise and saw it was a bit too long, considering we had just walked across the park. So we opted for the Tiki Room instead, so we could have a seat.

We couldn't possibly know that this would be the last time we would get to see the Tiki Room, “under new management.” Here are a couple of stills from my video.

As we exited the Tiki Room, it was getting dark out. DW didn’t want to do Pirates while pregnant, so we skipped it and I talked her into going to see the Country Bear Jamboree.

DW had seen it on her first trip, and she probably could have gone the rest of her life without seeing it again… but I insisted we had to see the Christmas version. (Um… little did I know that they stopped showing the Christmas version about 5 years ago.)

So… to my disappointment, it was just the regular Country Bear Jamboree. But I enjoyed seeing it again. Especially Melvin, Buff, and Max. It was like seeing old friends!

We were now less than an hour from the start of the Main Street Electrical Parade, so we made our way back to “our spot” and grabbed a seat. DD fell asleep in the stroller while we waited. We had excellent seats, which turned into just “good” seats once the parade started. This was because everyone to either side of us decided to stand when the parade appeared. DD was comfortable in her stroller, and I wasn’t about to block anyone’s view by standing, so we remained seated. Here are DW’s pics of the parade:

It was nice to see the MSEP again. I think I prefer Spectro, but it had been a while since we had seen MSEP.

Well, we’re closer to celebrating NYE… but since I am once again out of room for more pics in this post, I’ll have to pause here. Up next…

Ringing in the New Year!! But where? Our night hits a little snag… all in the next update!

I'm loving all of your ride pictures! How cool would that be to ride the teacups with the white rabbit?!? I loved the pictures of your DD on Barnstormer. Reminded me so much of when we took Reid for his first trip last December. Yeah, he was all excited until that first drop, too! That's when he started crying! But, by the time the ride was over, the tears were dried & he said it was a lot of fun. DH & I are both roller coaster enthusiasts so I don't know what we'll do if Reid doesn't grow into liking them!

I can't wait to hear how y'all ended up ringing in the New Year!

There is hope for your plan! My youngest loved Goofy's Barnstormer but my youngest thought Test Track was a bit too fast for her.

Re: the white Rabbit on the Teacup ride, I have seen once before a character riding with some guests, last time we were in MK (back in 2008), on the Magic Carpet ride, Aladdin got on with some guests and rode with them. It was pretty cool, I have to admit, I was a bit envious

I hope you got to spend NYE in MK. I went down with some friends for NYE back in 1995 and had the best time. We didn't spend it in MK but in Hollywood Studios and had a blast. I would love to do it again someday.

One of these trips... it will happen to us!! If we go enough times, it will happen!! I know it!!

DD and I watched the video of the Barnstormer yesterday as I was getting it uploaded, and I asked her if she'll go on it again next trip... she said no.

but at least she's talking about HM. so we'll have another first time experience on the next trip hopefully!

I guess time will tell if DD can follow in my footsteps or if she will follow DW's... she is not my last hope.... there is another.

Yes, all still sick, but not as bad. being at WDW certainly helps!!

I am still wearing my hat, even though I don't show up in any of these pictures. In the barnstormer video, you can see my ears casting a shadow as we board the ride, and my strap is visible during...

Always glad to have a DisDad on board!! Welcome. You're just in time for the NYE celebration!! Thank you for the compliment on the parade pics. I'll pass it on to DW, she takes all the parade pics while I am videotaping.

From one first trip reporter to another- can you give me any tips? I'm still not sure how to multi quote, and I'm not sure how to get the link to my TR in my signature, or how to do chapter links. Help!! (if you don't mind). And, please feel free to follow along! Our DDs are about the same age.

Thank you so much for reading and taking the time to comment! I see you're from CT, so we're kind of neighbors. Hope you made out okay with the storm. DW was born and raised in CT and has family there. They were without power until this past friday!
