Polynesian Cabanas

Can someone tell me about their experience at a cabana? I just booked a half day cabana and am so excited! Thanks!

We got back 2 weeks ago and also rented a cabana for a half day. It was soo worth it! We has more than the amount of people it "holds" but mainly used it as a home base. Our girl that served us all day was Heather; she was amazing! We liked it so much that we inquired about doing it the next day but they were booked. There are 2 of the regular cabanas and one of them has a slightly better view of the pool. It's a first come first serve basis for which cabana you get so we were told to arrive at recreation around 9:30-9:45 the day we had the cabana reserved to request which one we wanted. Definitely money well spent. One family rented one every day for a full day for their entire stay! You'll love it!

I'm not sure if they did renovations to the quiet pool, but they did do them at the volcano pool. The volcano pool is where the cabanas are. I believe it was $110 from 10-2. There was also a full day option as well.

I rented a cabana for a half day during our December trip after reading a few good comments about them somewhere on this site. I just hope it's warm enough to actually enjoy it.

I think you have the right to cancel your reservation without being charged either one or five days before you use it. I forget exactly how many days.

I'd love to hear about any other suggestions people have. Anything special I should request?

We rented the premium cabana and loved it! We will definitely do this again every time we go. we especially enjoyed having room service deliver a late lunch to our cabana. the fruit platter they gave us was a great touch for healthy snacking throughout the day.

I had no idea there was such a thing. It has been awhile since we have stayed at the Poly.

I image that is why some people were wandering in uninvited. I’m referencing the review on Tikiman’s site. They may not have known it was a private area.

Is it clearly marked as private?

Did you rent the premium or standard cabana? If you have children you need to keep an eye on, you may want to reserve the standard one. We obviously liked the additional space of the premium cabana, but you couldnt really see any of the pool, at least not the front of the pool, from it. We decided it wasn't for us having 4 children in our group.

It does have signs on the tables and beach chairs, but they're small and easily missed, especially after dark. Also, the premium cabana is in an area that used to be "public" so some folks who've been to the Poly before might just assume its still open to walk through. There are privacy "ropes" (poles with a strap between them) surrounding some of the furniture areas, as well as covering the sidewalk openings. Strangely, they don't always deter folks from walking around them. On the beachside, there is no privacy rope (I'm actually glad for that, it would gunk up the view, lol). Overall I would say people just don't notice, or don't think the ropes are there to keep them out. They just see empty chairs/tables and figure they're taking a shortcut to them by going under or around the ropes. Because of the setup with multiple seating areas blocked off for the cabana, it's physically impossible to have a butt planted in every seat the whole time. We had 4 people, but there's probably 16 seats between the two chaise loungers on the beach, a dining table which seats 6 (I think), two "loveseat" size chairs with another table, AND the chairs that are actually inside the cabana! People don't mean to be rude, they just think score, look at these comfy empty chairs! I didn't have any issues with folks sitting in our seats, but I did think it was humorous how many folks walked through as if the ropes didn't exist.

We got the standard. Our kids are 6, 4, and 1. My thinking was that my husband will probably be with the two older ones in and out of the pool, and I'll be with the baby. I liked the idea of having a dedicated space to take breaks, and having some shade. Thanks for the info!

Anyone know if you have to request a fruit bowl? Or does it come with the rental?

Hi! We have a standard cabana booked for our upcoming trip! Just wondering which one has a better view?

Thank you for the quick responses and link to Tikiman's site - I had almost forgotten about all the poly info he maintains - its how I originally decided to try the Poly to begin with - we are now going back there for our 6 time!

The Mauna Kea has a better view of the 2 standard cabanas.
