Savanna View or Arusha View

Trying to talk my wife into staying at AKL over Thanksgiving. And so far I have not been to successful. For those of you that have stayed in a Savanna or Arusha view room I need your help.

First of all what is the difference between the two. When I go on Disney.com to get an estimate there is a $169 difference for 5 night stay. Second, I don't expect to see animals 24/7 but at least in the AM. How often were you able to see the animals and was it the same two or three types of animals everyday or was there some variety?

Thanks for everything. Can't wait to go back it has been a long two years.

Hello, Not sure of the difference between Savannah View and Arusha View.. but I just stayed in a Savannah view villa at AKL Kidani Village in March and it was awesome! There were a ton of Giraffes, Zebra, Ostrich, and many other animals out at all hours of the day. Especially in the morning and late afternoon/early evening. There are feeders throughout the Savannah which causes the animals to disperse throughout the area. It's definitely cool to lay in bed and see a Giraffe outside!

Here is a link to the AKL map, as you can see there are 3 different savannas. http://allears.net/acc/aklmap.jpg Arusha is the center savanna and the most requested, which is why WDW prob. decided to increase the price for this view.

We were on Sunset Savanna, on the map, near the pic of the Impala! We enjoyed our view very much. Each Savanna has different animals, and some the same at each.

Just to be clear... the pictures of the animals on that map don't represent that only that type of animal is in that area, does it? In otherwords, are only giraffes and ostriches in one area, zebras in another?

Arusha is the name of one of the Savannas if I am not mistaken.

No, there are more animals, but certain savannas have some animals others don't. For instance there aren't the Longhorned Cattle in Sunset Savanna but they do in Arusha Savanna.

There are long horned cattle in the sunset savannah. A whole herd of them slept under our balcony while we had a villa on the sunset savannah. We have stayed on the Arusha savannah and the sunset savannah. If you could get a room on the sunset savannah by the watering hole, that would be where I would choose. We didn't see very many animals when we were on the arusha savannah, and the sunset savannah is hit or miss, depending on where your room is. On the sunset savannah, they have feeding stations located in certain areas. If you are lucky enough to get a room by a feeding station, you will see lots of animals.

for $169 I'd book Arusha. It's beautiful. More dramatic views than the other savannas. I've heard from cast members that the Pembe Savanna at Kidani is incredible too, though.

Pembe is small and does not have giraffes and is on the far side of the DVC resort Kidani (barn isn't tall enough for them.) All other savannahs (Sunset, Arusha and Uzima) have giraffes. We were on Uzima (before Arusha became a bookable category this year) above a pond and we grew quite attached to 'our' zebras and giraffes who visited the pond every day and evening during the 10 days we watched them. There were large antelope and impala as well. One thing I learned on the Wanyama (sunset) safari was that they sometimes move animals around, 'our' zebras, for example, were the first pair ever on Uzima and they were put there the day we arrived (and destined for a zoo ultimately in a zoo breeding program.) Also if animals misbehave, or don't get along they may be moved. A bird (stork?) pair had nested on Uzima by our water hole and when the chicks hatched they were moved off exhibit for safety before we arrived, so we didn't see them. Similarly, the red river hogs on Sunset savannah were tucked away in a warm facility because it was too cold for them to be out when we were there. At the far end of Zebra trail some rooms can see both Arusha and Uzima savannah.
