Are you talking Meteor Crater or Sunset Crater National Monument? As previously stated Meteor Crater is East on I-40 and out of your way. Sunset Crater maybe worth a stop. It's on the way up 89.

I agree that the scenery going towards Snow Bowl is very nice.

sunset crater,I think,I saw it on the map,and wondered if it was worth a stop on our way up to GC the name sounds interesting

If you've never seen a dormant volcano, it might be worth a short stop. It is a nice drive back to it and there is a trail you can take up to the base of the volcano, but it is not like what you would see in Hawaii.
