What about that "family" at the Welcome Aboard show? Boring!
Sail Away...boring. Pirate Night...boring.

In legend, a familiar or familiar spirit is a supernatural being that helps and supports a witch or magician. Traditionally, a familiar is an animal.

The stereotypical familiar in Western culture is the black cat. Because black cats are strongly associated with witchcraft, there are a number of superstitions regarding them. A black cat crossing ones path is said to be a portent of doom, for example. A familiar may be nearly any animal, however. Other common forms for a familiar to take are a dog, an owl, and a toad.

Or, in this case, a Disney stuffed toy.

Oh well, I guess I need to put on my big girl pants & deal with it! Glad to know I won't be the only curmudgeon on the ship.
My DH is especially with you on this! He always says he would pay extra if we could have a table to ourselves. So that leaves me being the Pollyana and coming up with all the small talk!

We don't like sharing with strangers either and have managed, twice to have a table to ourselves.

The other times we were either with friends or sat with people I had met on the thread for our cruise.

Neither of us are terribly good with strangers. I agree with your husband, I think I would pay for a table to ourselves.

For our last cruise I requested a table for two and had them make a note our reservation that others find us offensive.

Best to give fair warning.

Fortunately for our upcoming 2 cruises we're sitting with friends. At least they know how to handle us.

I can't stand when people use "it's Disney!" without any further explanation to justify and/or rationalize everything:

e.g.

"Why do DCL cruises cost 3 times as much as a similar cruise on another cruise line?"
"Because it's Disney!"

"Although I had an enjoyable cruise, I felt that the food was generally sub-par."
"But it's Disney!"

"I'm thinking of going on another cruise line and would like some advice...:
"Why would you??? Are you some kind of moron???? Stick with DCL because it's Disney!"

OMG!!! I this thread!! It has had me laughing out load here at work (making people look at me even more weirdly than normal).

Thank you Ian, for starting this

I have my moments w/ DCL....and know that I've been a CM at the Disney Store, Epcot & DCL, and while I do love how Disney makes me feel, I do not like those that are not being genuine.

I personally love it when they annouce my name...it tells me I'm REALLY on vacation....not my real name, but what I give them...I've been part of "The Three Amigos" and will proudly be part of the "Crumudgeon Family" in November.

I agree 100% with everything that's been said about the Head Servers/Maitre'd (except when it's been a dark, tall, handsome Italian bearing gifts). I've had some great servers, and some servers that have made me want to say "go away & leave me alone". I love the idea of the t-shirt that says I'll tip if you go away (or something like that).

My favourite sail away celebration to date, was the 1 I had with 2 great gals on our balcony I can do without the Pirate Night deck party too. I must say, tho, that some people blow me away with their costumes. Such creativity.

I've appreciated being able to sail with the Ambassadors from Freedonia, but I've also sailed with those from the lower classes.

Ian - I thought you were going to say that meeting ME on the 4nt Wonder cruise was the worst That tour was interesting, wasn't it???

Absolutely loving this thread!

We are platinum members and always wear the lanyards (hey, we've earned it) and i hate it when you first board the ship, and right after they announce your family, a CM come up and begins to explain what to do; where lunch is, when you can get in your room, where to make any dining changes, etc. I want to hold my lanyard in his face and say "more than 10 cruises, I know how this works now..."

when they see your platinum lanyard, they should just say "welcome back" and leave me alone

I hate it when people wear their cruise lanyards with the attitude that they've somehow accomplished something significant in their lives.
