losing weight by walking

I'm not overweight but for vanity reasons would like to lose 10lbs to get back to my HS weight. I was wondering if I could do this by walking everyday. I usually walk for a half hour 5 days a week so obviously I would need to step that up. Has anyone lost weight just by adding more walking to their daily routine? Would love some details, thanks!

I do two miles on most days.
It hasn't done a thing for that last, hard to lose 10 pounds.

Sorry! Probably not what you wanted to hear.

Even if it doesn't help you lose weight, it'll help you tone your body.

I lost about 35 pounds mostly from walking. I used to walk about 50 minutes at lunch and 1 hour (sometimes 1-1/2 hrs) after work at a fast pace, usually 5 days a week and sometimes on the weekend.

Unfortunately, I didn't keep it up & those 35 pounds I lost, I found most of them again.

Good luck & keep at it. Important thing is to find something you enjoy, so if you enjoy walking, you are more likely to stick to it.

It is possible but not just a slow, leisurely walk. You need to walk fast enough to raise your heart rate and work up a sweat. You should be breathing hard but still able to carry on a conversation.

I have lost 25 lbs. since April just by walking and cutting back on sugar and carbs in my diet. I don't count calories. I walk 2-3 miles 5 or 6 days a week. Between 30-45 minutes.

Yes, walking is def. GREAT!!!!!
But, just might be effective, alone, on hard to lose weight.

In the summer, I walk our dog, about one mile... at a walking pace. (can't really power-walk or jog with the dog!) I do this in the mornings when it is cool.

In the evening, before sunset, unless it is Winter, we walk our dog. The same approximate mile. About a half mile up the road (more country, not city) and back.

I would say that it can take 30 minutes.

In the winter, I often do things like Leslie Sansone's videos.
If I have time to fit them in in the evening.

Yes... THIS.

And, take a good look at the foods, habits, little vices, that could be really hindering that weight loss.

I highly recommend strength training instead. It shapes you muscles so you look good as well as weight loss.

I think walking helps a lot but i've read that 75-80% of you over/under weight is based on your diet.

It should help, provided you don't "compensate" or "reward" yourself with extra food.

Most exercise doesn't burn nearly as many calories as people think, and most food has more calories than people realize.

Yes!

OP, while I think upping the exercise would be awesome you should really take a look at your diet.

If I walk fast I do about 15 minute miles. To find out how many calories you burn, if you have a smart phone you can download map my run, it has setting for many types of exercise. My fitness pal is another way to track what you eat and exercise.

I found that I was burning many less calories walking than I thought. The only way to lose weight is to eat less, exercise more.
