GKTW is about 15-20 minutes from WDW. I have never rented a car for a WDW trip. Taxi service is available.

About how much did a taxi from WDW to GKTW cost you?

I actually rode with friends. I'm sure a few others will be along to help answer that, Tobi.

Hello,

I took cabs between the Swan and Give Kids the World last year a few times (seemed easier than renting a car, though it was not cheaper).

Rates varied, but I'd say $25-35 each way is about right for most places in WDW.

I was back to volunteer last month, and that time we did rent a car for just 2 days. We rented it right from the Dolphin Hotel (we were staying at the Beach Club) and it couldn't have been easier.

In the future we'll definitely do the short-term rental. The cabs weren't bad, but it just got expensive.

Have fun, volunteering is such a wonderful experience!

Thanks for the info Nikki.

After going to the benefit in MA July 2nd, we decided to volunteer for a day when we go down in September. We have already been contacted by Connie, so it is all set. I think we will rent a car to get there and back from the WL.

We just got our assignment from GKTW for our December trip. We are doing 2shifts the same day cause I guess it is expensive for the background checks. We are excited and planning on taking a taxi

Has anyone done this with kids? My 12 yo daughter is very interested in GKTW and this is something I would love to do with her.

I would love to hear the answer to this too, my kids are big into volunteering. How old do volunteers have to be?

Dave Parfitt, senior DIS correspondent, has brought his two girls before. I know that the rules are a little bit stricter when you have kids help out. You'd really need to call GKTW for more specifics though.

I volunteered at GKTW for 3 days in June 2011-

It was AMAZING! I brought my 18 yr old niece with me and the experience was truly magical for us both...and we formed close connections with the children/ families, some of which we now follow on Facebook.

Planning to make GKTW a yearly trip- love being a "voluntourist" and giving back...if you are on the fence, go for it. It will be one of those life changing events that you will remember with fondness for years to come.

Just wanted to know, for planning purposes, if there are tolls to get to GKTW from WDW and about how much they are. Thanks!

There are no tolls between GKTW and WDW. We volunteered there in September and it was a very easy ride from the WL to GKTW. I will add that we went on a Sunday and were there by 7:30am, so there was almost no traffic.
