Interesting price comparison

I like everyone else feel that Disney Cruise prices are going way up. But I found some prices from a cruise we took in 2009. We are taking the same cruise this year.
We book 2 cabins one veranda one inside. In 2009 we paid Veranda $4878.19 inside $3367.16 = $8246.32 . 2014 same 2 type of cabins. Vernada $ $3,561.44 inside $$2999.24 = $6590.68. We always book the year before and get the OBC. Both are the 1st week of June.

Also in 2005 we went on the 7 day Western (this one stopped in Key West).
All 4 of us in one Veranda Cabin $7,432.00. 2013 2 cabins one veranda $3,435.56 one inside $2972.90 total= $6408.46

For Alaska in 2009 we paid $2707.26 for an inside stateroom. We booked way in advance. That cabin today for a 2014 sailing is $3161.40. But that is not booking in advance.

Can anyone else look at previous years and see what they paid??

This peaked my curiosity, so I dug up our previous cruise cost. July of 2003, we had category 4, with a cost of $7,095.08. May of 2014, we will have category T, with a cost of $11,834.96. Both cruises were booked almost one year out, and included myself, DH, DD, and DS. So, eleven years later, upgrading to concierge, going from the Dream to the Fantasy, I don't think it is an outrageous increase.

I completely agree!

We have been doing the same thing lately with all of the talks of "crazy price hikes" and yes its higher but when you calculate for inflation not that much higher! And if you are smart and go during off times and use onboard booking you can get it for a good price!

This even goes to the parks I saw someone post a menu of Le Cellier from 1980 something the other day and say "Wow I miss these prices" when adjusted for inflation it was only $3-5 more per steak than it was then!!! Disney is a business I bet your local red lobster has gone up 3 - 5 in the last 10 years!

People just get set in their ways and hate change! Thats why I like these boards but only can read certain threads... People need to realize our American dollar is not what it used to be prices have to go up Disney is a business!

Adjusted for inflation - sure...

But salaries don't necessarily go up with the rate of inflation. Nor do other costs like healthcare.

So even if I get a raise which matches or is similar to the rate of inflation, the actual take home pay is less than before, because healthcare costs alone.

I found some comparisons from previous years.

3 night (5/30/13)
2 adults (This cruise was booked 4-5 months out)
Cat 7A-$1528.44

Same cruise 2015 (5/29/15)
2 adults
Cat 7A-$1643.52

We BOOKED a Western for May 24, 2014 but had to move it to the Magic but here is the breakdown.

7 night Western 5/24/14
2A/2K (booked opening day for Silver)
Cat 8C-$5119.28

Same cruise 2015 (Eastern instead of Western 5/23/15)
2A/2K
Cat 8C- $5850.60

4 night Magic 4/28-5/2/14
2A/2K
Cat 5A-$2655

same sailing on the Dream 4/27/15
2A/2K (booked 2/09/2011)
Cat 5A-$2907.04 (not exact comparison because the Magic is not sailing the Bahamas April 2015)

This is the real kicker!!!
5 night Double Dip Dream 6/10/12
2A/2K
Cat 8D-$3384.68

Same cruise 6/26/15
2A/2K
Cat 8D-$5541.04 I get that its a "special" cruise but it's not $2000 more "special" than it was in 2012.

OR
4 night Dream 6/8/15
2A/2K
Cat 8D-$4355.04

Your last one isn't an even comparison...June 10 lots of kids are still in school, by June 26 pretty much everyone is out of school and it's a "summer" price, and we all know those prices are WAY more than the rest of the year and the same cruise can be almost double in price with just a few weeks difference.

We booked opening day for the 1/18/14 Western Caribbean on the Fantasy for 3 adults 2 children in a family oceanview stateroom (8d). The cost was $4,928.75. Currently for the 1/17/15 eastern cruise on the fantasy, the cost is $6147.95 for an 8c (no ds available), several months after booking opened. But, they don't have the western on the fantasy for the same time. For the western on the magic on 1/18/15 in a category 4E (because there are no family oceanview staterooms on the magic) it is $6,223.70. It's hard to compare, because it's not the same at all cruise wise - I can't get the same ship and itinerary or category.

Maybe Disney cut prices during the recession and now that the economy is improving they are going back to the previous pricing. People have just gotten used to the "discounted" price. I have no facts to back that up just a hunch.

I consider all of June "summer" pricing especially when comparing June 2015 a 7 night on the Fantasy 6/6/15 is $6880 and 6/27/15 is $7340 which is only a $460 difference but, I digress.

For a more "accurate" comparison, I pulled 2012 pricing and found 6/29/12 2A/2K in a 5B, which their is currently about a $500 difference between it and an 8D, for $4414. So I'm guessing an 8D was roughly $3900 which is still over $1600 difference.

June 10, 2012--we sailed a 5-night cruise on the Dream. 5 people in category 8C for $3700.

June 8, 2015--a 4-night cruise in the same category for 5 people is $5266! That's a 42% increase over 3 years for one less night.

We were on the same cruise! Looking back, I'm thinking we got an awesome deal on the Double Dip!

Disney will continue to raise prices as long as they can fill their ships. They have only 4 and they rotate destinations around enough that demand stays high. They also deliver a completely different cruise experience. The uniqueness of a Disney cruise will also drive demand.

I don't have past Disney cruises we have actually taken to compare to, but I know that we are finally sailing the Fantasy after booking and changing several times in the past. We are going to be paying less than our original booking, but we are going off season (January).

I don't think it does much good to complain about price increases. It might make you feel better if you find others facing the same challenges, but it won't have any affect on price. When people stop paying those prices, Disney will start increasing those prices.

My orignal post was to show that prices have not increased that much. But I did not compare 2015. Boy was I wrong.
I will say for 2015 they went up. Our cruise 2014 vs. 2015.

If we compare Eastern vs Eastern. It's not the same week so that make a little difference

We are sailing May 31st 2014 vs May 23rd 2015 Eastern 10 A $2999.24 vs $3,324.30. also a 5D 4192.30 vs 3591.44
an increase of $952. Not bad but a little early the kids are not out of school.

So if I do the Eastern cruise June 6th
10a $2999.24 vs. $4332.20 5D $3591.44 vs. $5242.30.
An increase of $3184.62 YIKES!!!

If we want to do the same week but different itinerary
10A 2999.24 vs 4332.30
5D $3591.44 vs $5312.30
An increase of $3053.92. YIKES again.

It will be interesting to see if they can get people to fill those bookings.

I'm glad my kids are older and this will be our last Disney cruise. We will be switching to another cruise line

It's hard to compare prices, though if you booked say 2014 on opening day and are looking at the same date in 2015 today. Prices have already gone up from opening day.

We always sail the 1st week of June and re book on board. So my comparison for 2014 vs 2015 should be pretty close.
