Maybe less "planning" more "plotting", LOL!
Since this is our 1st cruise as a family and our 1st Disney cruise, I'm going crazy with all the possibilities and questions, etc. I'm a hardcore vacation planner in the 1st place, so this is all too much.
Things to do, places to eat, shopping, excursions...
Oh, sorry, my head just exploded.

Hahaha I completely understand. Believe it or not, I have actually begun a little shopping even. We have several friends/family who are also cruising with us and I am doing a little something special for each of them.

I planned a lot for my first cruise, found a dismeet by my second cruise, and here I am on here 509 days still to go before traveling. I planned everything from tip cash for room service and baggage to when to get there and who would do what and what we would wear. I'm trying to be more relaxed about all that this time. Which I can honestly say I'm doing well with but then again....509 days to go does leave me a lot of room to backslide.

So what are you most worried or researching right now? Maybe we can help, have already read, or know who to ask.

Honestly, I'm a control freak when it comes to planning vacations. I feel like the more I know about where we are going, the better the trip will be. So I want to know everything about the ship, food, activities, etc.
I want to know all about the kids club. Will Ty like it? Will we leave him there one night so we can eat at Palo's?
I want to know all about our stops. What would be the best thing for us to do in Nassau? What to do at Castaway Cay? What excursions could we do with a kid that will be 4? I'm not a beach person, so what is there to do that I'll like?
Will my DH get seasick? Will Ty like the cruise? Will I enjoy myself, knowing that I'm dropping my kid off everyday just like daycare, lol?
Really it just comes down to the fact that there isn't a ton of info out since the Dream is so new. That's cool and all, but it's making my crazy come out just a bit more than normal. Ahem, you didn't notice any crazy, did you?

Not one bit! I actually completely understand.

Let me first start off by saying that the kids clubs are so cool you actually wish they would let you play for a while. The counselors are so good at their jobs that the kids run from you to get to them by day two. Your child is very well protected and kept away from strangers which I very much was thankful for when my son was younger. Yes, a little overprotective, proud of it.

Our first cruise my shyest son was 8. He was not a frequent flyer of daycares and when he did go to one, he had his older brother with him at small daycare groups so they could stay together. I didn't think he would like the kids clubs and had actually no expectations to how much or if he would choose to go. I was fine either way. We missed him a lot that cruise. He would hound us from daylight to hurry to get him to the club so he didn't miss "Whatever it was scheduled" and would sigh heavily when we forced him to come to the room to prepare for dinner and the show. He would then patiently await us to take him back. He would then announce "Please don't pick me up until 1AM because we are having a sleepover" or "I won't be ready till midnight because we are making cookies". We would actually wait around till that time to pick him up.

He never chose to go swimming with us or to the movies with his brother who was 13 and very awkward in the teen room. So it was the 13 year old outgoing son that was more of the loner on that cruise.

We never saw a child scream or cry to be left in the clubs.
We never saw a child sulking or alone in a corner in the clubs.
My child had access to me anytime (Just to ask if he could have pizza with the kids because he thought he should ask).
He did activities that he would never have done in daycare but more along what he would do at a summer camp.
He loved, loved, loved it!

Do all children? No. As for Palo, I would book it for nights other than the first so you will have time to cancel it. Or maybe brunch on the sea day so you can have dinner with your son. Plan to do dinner and the theatre with him but remember he may want to ditch you for more fun and less sitting.

As for Nassau, we went to the aquariums and that was fun. It was some bus tour and then the aquariums but there was no water park there then or anything.

We are not huge beach persons. We did go onto Castaway Cay and we played with a tube with him as the older son went on a teen excursion. He played in the sand with some other kids. We ate then went back onto the ship.

That's my .02 worth.

I'm glad it helped some. I just know that we had so much fun that since then, every trip has had additional friends and family attending with us. And now new friends!!!

So - Let's talk about FE's, shall we? I'm one of those people that would rather give one item that will be appreciated/usefull rather than a handful of small things that will just be forgotten.
I'm thinking that means that I'll be making some kind of craft for each of the FE gifts that I do, assuming that the # of rooms doesn't get completely crazy, of course.
I've seen picture frames, small scrapbook stuff, etc. But what do you guys think would be a nice, useful gift? A small dryerase board? A frame? A small album?
Obviously whatever the item is, it needs to be relatively inexpensive and something that I can decorate for the cruise...
I'd like everyone's input, if you don't mind! Thanks!

A picture frame would really be good, I mean think of all the pictures that are taken and how many people buy them off the ship. You can give them a white matte frame with a colorful mini-marker that they can go get it signed with their favorite characters themselves at meet-n-greets. (its a great excuse for the adults to go too.) You can decorate it with a few classic Disney character stickers at the bottom edge or something as well to put a little bit of you on there as well.

Hey guys, wanted to share this little bobble I found. Its called Disney Vacation Connection. Its full of tips and tid bits to help you plan your next Disney trip, and sits right on your desktop. While it's a little big, you can exit out of it without loosing any info and pull it up with easy access. I'll be posting this else where on the boards as well. Hope this helps all those planners out there!

Lisa,

Although the ship has the wave phones, I still think that dry erase boards can be of value. Normally, a family will not have enough wave phones nor will they want to rent them because of the cost to replace lost ones. The dry erase boards can be on the door for other Dis people to leave hello messages or left on inside of the door for everyone to leave a location note. Comes in very handy. When you get home, you can hang them on the refrigerator for notes etc.

Another FE gift idea is a CD of music and ship horn noises. We have ours and love it. We played it in our room while getting ready.

I also read that one person got plain pillowcases at Big Lots for very cheap and used fabric paints to put the ship name on with a homemade stencil (made on the cricut) with the ship name. She then put candy in and took each to the guest services desk with the room numbers on them. They were signed and then delivered to each room and it was a suprise! She had a note attached to each saying it was from her.

Another lady got the cheap plastic cups that had the straw/lid and used vinyl sheets and the cricut and made lime green "Dis Is My Cup" and other Disboard things and stuck them on the cups.

I'm sure you will find something. There are FE threads and just about any idea is a good one. You won't please everyone, but most who participate in the FE exchange are up for just about anything.
