I wish I lived down there, so I would get to see everyone when they visited......still dreaming about that!! Need to win the danged ol' lottery to afford it......so it will probably stay just a nice dream.

Sorry to hear that you won't be going to DL during the Holiday season. But the Halloween season at DL has surprised me last year when I went during MHP and was fun. Some people like the Holiday season than the Halloween season and so on, it is always fun to go to DL when it is decorated with the Holiday overlay or the Halloween decorations.

I'm happy to be going during Halloween.....it was on the "to do" list.....but really wanted to experience the Christmas time holiday first......but I'll survive & I'll have a great time either way!!

You can count on lots & lots of pictures!!!! I am a little surprised you haven't been at Halloween time......wasn't aware it was your birthday month.....but figured with all your trips, you would have seen it during that time!! I'm excited now that I'm switching gears......just hope to get the approval from Mike's work so I can start the planning. Hate sitting in limbo-land..........

Hello! Just read through the 7 pages you had so far! It's disappointing to have to miss the Holiday time. Hopefully next year you can go for the Holidays!

I was lucky enough to do both last year and I enjoyed both but I really liked Halloween Time! I love characters and there are more Villains out during Halloween so that is great fun! I also really liked the Halloween Party and I can't wait to go again this year (Hopefully!)

Hopefully you will get confirmation on your dates soon!

Sorry you won't be going during Christmas. I know how badly you wanted too. Halloween is super fun though and you'll have a great time. Maybe we'll see each other there? It'll be fun finding halloween costumes for the little ones too!

Laurie -

You know, I was thinking a bit about your situation and how the Christmas trip is not going to work out this year.

Even though I truly think you will fall in love with DLR at Christmas when you finally get to experience it (you've already seen tons of photos, so you can already see what it's like - and it's even better in person), I actually now think it's good that you are doing Halloween first.

Here is my reasoning - since you have not yet experienced either holiday at DLR, because Halloween is not as all-encompassing and all-over-the Resort like Christmas is, if you were to start off with a Christmas trip first and have that magical experience, and then did a Halloween trip later...the differences would seem more obvious, I think, when comparing one trip with the other. You would notice the lack of Halloween touches more if you went for the Christmas season first and Halloween next, if that makes any sense. It would sort of be like scaling down.

I think that it's good that Halloween will be first for you because you can enjoy the season for what it is - with no mental comparision at all of a Christmas trip. So you won't notice the areas that don't have Halloween decorations (like they would have at Christmas). You will just notice the areas that DO have them. You won't remember that there used to be Candy Corn Acres in DCA and now it's totally gone. You will just appreciate what is actually in Disneyland in terms of Halloween decor. The Halloween party is fun - a great spot for lots of characters and lots of candy. You will love that.

And then eventually, when you are able to go to DLR and enjoy your favorite holiday at your favorite place, you will be awestruck and overloaded with all of the Christmas-y things to see all over the place. In that case, it will be like scaling up!

I do love the Halloween season very much - in fact I was so sad to have to miss it last year. I didn't feel right about it at all, since I had gone a few years in a row and it was a ritual. I thoroughly enjoy the Halloween Superthread and collecting info for it. My only hope is that DLR starts treating HalloweenTime as an even bigger deal since it is so popular now and because the Resort is growing and developing. (A reservations CM on the phone last year even said to me that "Christmas time at Disneyland is a big deal. It's very special. Halloween is not as much on that level, in the same way.")

DLR needs to do more with the season. They need to add in more decorations, more Halloween-themed music to blast from the speakers (there used to be music like that in DCA), more Halloween touches in the restaurants and hotels and DTD. I want to totally immersed in the Halloween season at DLR, everywhere I go!

One thing that HalloweenTime definitely has an advantage in over the Christmas season is the area above the turnstiles.

For Halloween, there are cute character pumpkins greeting you as you hand your ticket or AP over to the CM. At Christmas time, there are these boring (kind of cheap-looking) snowflakes. They are not that festive, not that bright, not colorful, there are no characters hidden in the snowflakes, and they don't seem to tie in or connect with any other decor in the parks. It is very peculiar how that area seems so...bland. Jessica and I have discussed this and we both agreed that, instead of the stupid boring snowflakes above the turnstiles, DLR could follow its own lead from Halloween and put character snowmen/snow people in that spot, or character gingerbread cookies or something. If they can make giant character pumpkins, they can make character snow people/gingerbread cookies and put them there in place of the bland snowflake motif.

Thanx Sherry, I knew you'd make me feel much better about this situation. I think you're right.......we wanted to experience both holidays.......so starting with the one that doesn't go 100%, is a great way to go.....especially with the twins. I'll be interested in seeing how they handle all of it......sounds like Christmas time would be a major sensory overload.....so good to start small & work our way up!!

Mike's back at work today & is going to pressure his boss to give us an answer so we can move forward with planning.

OMG Yes I have thus far only seen pics of the Halloween turnstiles but really the Christmas ones are sub par compared to everything else! I just tried not to look at them too long... They look like decor from some mass marketing company that makes decor for Malls & shopping centers...def below the bar Disney sets usually!

Hi Laurie-

Sorry the Christmas trip is not going to work out! I also would love to go at Christmas time but don't think it will happen anytime soon unless we were to go over Thanksgiving . I am very much looking forward to our Disneyland Trip because I have never seen it decked out in any of its holiday splendor. I enjoy Halloween time, because it allows any one young or old to imagine, dream and for a day be something they always dreamed of being or doing which I have always associated with Walt Disney and Disneyland. I do not like spooky and being scared but I think being a dreamer is the best. We may have to change our dates and I am really hoping that we will not have to miss the party because of it.

What are the dates you're planning on now & what dates if you change??? Hopefully we'll overlap & can meet up....that would be awesome!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing the park in all of it's fall wonderment....I love holidays....all holidays & decorate at home for almost all of them......Halloween is my 2nd favorite....so I'm more than alright with going during that time. My concern is the crowds!!

I'm a bit concerned about the crowds but we managed a summer trip last year so it should hopefully be managable. Our plan as of now is 9/30 to 10/9 figured that would cover a party. Hubby has to do a schedule change which might change his days off so we would have to change to 9/27 to 10/5 so if the parties don't start until the seventh we would miss out . It is the only time of year my older children can dress up at Disneyland so this is one of the other reasons I want to go at this time of year. Our 17th anniversary will be the 1st and I am planning on a ressie at carnation cafe with some loaded baked potato soup Yum! It would be great to meet some of the Divas, then maybe my loving and a bit overprotective hubby would agree to a Diva Trip. If for some reason this trip doesn't work out I will be shuffling it to the same time as the Diva trip in February since my kids have a four day weekend . Though DH has no idea I have an alternate plan in the works. (we need a witch stirring a pot smilie).

Well bummer, your dates & the ones we're looking at wouldn't overlap! I sure hope you get to do the party....that would be a bummer to go at that time & not get to participate in it & see the special fireworks!!! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!
