EDIT

Most Jambo House rooms sleep four–two each in two queens. Rooms with a queen and two bunk beds are also available. The bunk beds are 5’9″ long, and 39″ wide. For some reason, bunk rooms are more expensive. Rooms with one king bed, or one king and a daybed, are also available.

You can add to this capacity of four a child younger than three who sleeps in a crib. A crib fits well between the closet and TV credenza, where the door to the connecting room is shown in the floorplan.

The Animal Kingdom resort is surrounded by four savannas, each of which is populated by dozens of wild African mammals and birds.

Most rooms have a view of these savannas…and waking up to a giraffe outside your balcony is a very cool way to start your day!

Savanna views are also available from many public spaces
All Disney deluxe resorts have standard rooms.

They also all have preferred rooms–standard rooms for which more is charged, because of better views, closer proximity to a resort’s central services, or both; concierge rooms, which Disney calls “club” rooms; and suites.

At Jambo House at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, standard, preferred and club/concierge rooms sleep four, in two queen beds.

Rooms of the same size are also available with a queen and bunk beds; a king; and a king and a daybed. (To see a floorplan, click here for the first page of this review.)

Preferred rooms include “Savanna” and “Pool” views.
While this site generally recommends that first time family visitors should avoid preferred rooms (as the value is not there, since you won’t be in your room much) it makes an exception for Jambo House at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, where you should always pay for a savanna view.
Club rooms–which the rest of the world calls concierge rooms–are not worth the extra cost for most first time family visitors. However, they may be well worth it for families intending to spend more time at the Animal Kingdom Lodge than implied by this site’s itineraries. TikimanPages.com has a great discussion of the value of concierge rooms here. It’s focused on the Polynesian, but applies to all club rooms.
Suites sleeping 6 to 8 people are available for families seeking a particularly comfortable visit–see this for more on suites at Walt Disney World.
(You will see references here and there to “Deluxe Rooms” at the Animal Kingdom Lodge–these rooms were all eliminated when Disney Vacation Club villas were added.)
(To each of the capacity figures above, you can add one more kid under 3 at time of check in who sleeps in a crib.)

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is described on Walt Disney World’s website as an

“African lodge-style resort amidst a 43-acre wildlife preserve. The Resort offers authentic African-inspired architecture and the kraal African-village landscape design—a semi-circle design popular in Africa which offers expansive views of the surrounding savanna and its many animal inhabitants. Thatched ceilings, large beams, hand-carved golden-tone furnishings, real African artifacts and a vast mud fireplace in the main lobby surround you in the inimitable spirit of Africa.”

“Just outside the main lobby, an elevated rock platform—Arusha Rock—offers up-close glimpses of the animals and a panoramic view of the sprawling grounds. In addition to animals, thousands of indigenous African shrubs and grasses—including the most recognized canopy tree of Africa, the copperpod—paint a picture reminiscent of the unspoiled African grasslands.”

The resort opened in April 2001 and since has been changed twice.

In the first change, Disney Vacation Club villas replaced a number of rooms in the Animal Kingdom Lodge itself.
In the second, a new Disney Vacation Club resort in a new building–Kidani Village–opened next door. At the same time as Kidani Village opened, the name of the main resort was changed to Jambo House.
Jambo House is one large building. You enter into the glorious lobby, with check-in and other services on the left, and a gift shop on the right. Further on the right but down a few levels are Jambo House’s two great restaurants–Jiko and Boma, and its quick service option, Mara. Between the lobby and these restaurants is a wonderful bar, the Victoria Falls Lounge. Still further on the right is the spectacular Uzima pool.

The lodging components of Jambo House are divided into four “trails,” Ostrich, Giraffe, Zebra and Kudu.
Giraffe Trail has only pool and standard views–avoid it, although it is very convenient to buses and gym.
Ostrich Trail is short and very lightly trafficked, and convenient to the lobby. About half its rooms have views of the Sunset Savanna. A savanna view room here is the best choice for families looking for quiet.
Kudu Trail is very long. It rooms almost all have savanna views–most of the Sunset Savanna, but many of the Arusha Savanna. Kudu Trail has less traffic than Zebra Trail, because it is not convenient to anything.
Zebra Trail is as long as Kudu trail, but more convenient to the restaurants and pools. Its rooms have a mix of views–pool views, Uzima Savanna views, and Arusha Savanna views.
Jambo House at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge’s strengths for first time visitors are its stunning theme and great kid appeal, it pool, and its great dining at Jiko and Boma.

OTHER DISTINCTIVE FEATURES OF KIDANI VILLAGE RESORT
Kidani Village has a number of very strong positives ~

It is one of only a few Disney Vacation Club resorts that can fit 5 people in a One-bedroom villa, or 9 into a Two-Bedroom. (See this for more on large families, and this for more on beds and sleeping spaces at Walt Disney World resorts.)
Along with Jambo House, it uniquely presents savanna views of animals roaming.
Changes it reflects to the recent layout of the typical Disney Vacation Club villas, makes it among the most livable of DVC one bedroom villas.
The kitchen/dining/living room area has been both widened and deepened.
This space has been used to add both a second full bath to One-bedroom villas, and enough living space in the living room that it can be used even if the fold-out sleeper sofa is being used.
(These features carry over to two bedroom villas as well.)

BEST AND WORST ROOMS AT KIDANI VILLAGE
For those seeking an Animal Kingdom Lodge Disney Vacation Club experience, for most room types, Jambo House is a better choice than Kidani Village.

Studio rooms: Prefer Jambo House, because of the stunning lobby and better access to quick service dining
One-bedroom Villas: Prefer Kidani Village, for a much more livable floorplan, with extra size and a bath for each sleeping space
Two-bedroom Villas: Families that can fit into two queens in one bedroom, and a king in a second, should prefer Jambo House for its lobby and dining flexibility
Families that need to use the sleeper sofa and/or sleeper chair in the combined living/dining/kitchen space should prefer Kidani Village for its extra size and third bath
Grand Villas: Prefer Jambo House for more square footage, the kid appeal of the lobby, and more convenient dining
If you do reserve Kidani Village, request a savanna view room on the third or fourth floor (these floors provides the best views).

If quick service dining is also an issue for you, ask to for a savanna view room near the Jambo House. Specifically, ask for a room near the Zazu elevator. (The best of these are even numbered rooms 7338-7346 on the third floor, and 7438-7452 on the fourth floor.)
If quick service dining is not an issue, request a savanna view room between the lobby and the elevator most convenient to the pool–the Rafiki elevator. Even numbered rooms 7614-7622 on the third floor, and 7814-7820 on the fourth floor, are the best of these.

I may have to! I'm only going to be in WDW for 4 days (not including the day I'm leaving), but I will see if I can stop by! If I'm not able to then it gives me a reason to go back and check it out!

It's not like I didn't have more pressing things to do while I waited on the creation of AKL Lite V!
