Watching all 50 Disney Films in 100 days!

I watched Lilo & Stitch the other day and I thought "This movie is a lot better than I remember." Which is strange because I've always liked that movie. It got me thinking, if I got that reaction from one of my favorite movies what about the rest.

So I decided to watch all 50 Disney Animated Features in 100 days. I watched Snow White today and I posted my first comments today. 49 movies to go. You can see my thoughts here.

If anyone wants to follow along at home, I'm watching Dumbo tomorrow.

I think this is a brilliant idea. I loved your commentary on Snow White.

Really cool idea. I liked your writeup, especially the note about how much work went into stuff like the feathers in the pillow. I don't think I'd have enough stamina to do 50 movies of any kind in 100 days, but it does sound exciting. I'll be talking about Dumbo in a few weeks on my show, so I'm curious to see what you think of it!

50 films in 100 days is a little rough, I once watched every Pixar movie (plus the shorts) in order of creation over two days and it really takes a lot out of you. You really have to be committed to do that, that's why I decided to give myself 100 days rather than 50. But some weekends the wife and I will sit down and watch 6-7 movies over two days, so I do have some practice, but it really is a sprint vs. marathon deal.

Day Two is in the books! I watched Dumbo for the first time in close to 10 years. You can see it here

I'm so inspired by this idea that I picked up Beauty and the Beast and The Princess and the Frog tonight to watch with the family on some weekends in advance of our January trip.

We have a collection of a lot of the animated movies that my 5 year old son continuously watches, but I so love your idea of watching Disney's 50!

Thanks for all of the comments!!

If you're watching along at home, tomorrow I'm going to start watching films from the "Disney Renaissance" of the 1990's, starting strangely enough with 1986's The Great Mouse Detective. This film, arguably, is the film that started the Renaissance. It featured either directors or the artists who played key roles in the movies of the 1990's.

Thumbs up

What's up, Disney Canon watching buddy?

I've been on this same "ride", so to speak, and you are going to have so much fun with it! Watching all the Disney movies makes you better appreciate how ingenious the studio really was. (I like to think of Walt Disney as the James Cameron of his day -ambitious and maybe a little insane/ego trippy, but definitely revolutionary in his field.)

One question tough: is there any reason (other than availability) you aren't doing the films in order?

My Disney Canon Experience (with links to others; I'll add yours to the list!)

Day Three is up! The Great Mouse Detective

Babbletrish-
As for the order I'm watching them in, it's partly because I am missing a few of the films ( Basically Saludos Amigos to Mr. Toad, they are on order ), it's partly because of the format (I can watch DVS's at work, Blu-Rays and Laserdisc's at home, and VHS in the bedroom) and partly because I'm worried about burnout. The first 10 movies have a certain feel and the last 15-20 movies have a feel and I'm worried if I plow through them in order I could face burn out. Jumping around at least gives me an option to kind of mix things up.

If you're playing along at home, Day four will feature Walt Disney's Fantasia.

Great movie...it's sad how underappreciated it is.

I've seen every film in the animated canon at one point or another, but I've never tried watching them in a short period of time. Have fun!
