Magic Dry Dock Q

Sorry if this has been asked, but searching is a challenge on my phone. Does anyone know if the Magic is due for dry dock this fall?

The Magic was in dry dock last October after returning from Europe. Since I believe that it is normally scheduled every 2 years, she's not due this year.

Magic and Fantasy go to drydock on the even years, traditionally in the fall(Fantasys first will be 2014) the Wonder and the Dream go on the odd.The Dreams first will be 2013.Traditionally in the fall. Its mandated by the IMO, etc that all ships be drydocked 2x in a 5 year period, and not to exceed 3 years between.

We were on the Panama Canal cruise that brought the Magic home in Sept 2008, and I thought that the Magic went into drydock soon after we got back.

Edit: Just looked and she did go into dry dock after we got back - Disney Magic Heads Into Dry Dock September 2008 (http://land.allears.net/blogs/dnews/...to_dry_do.html)

Does anyone know what was done during the last dry dock of the Magic? We are doing the Bahama cruise out of NY in August of 2012. I was really hoping for a 2011 fall dry dock for her but I guess she doesn't got into drydock again until the fall of 2012...is that right?

Thats correct. The Magic wont go back to drydock until 2012. The last time around, she got a general cleaning, inspection of hard to see areas, like fuel tanks, water tanks, bottom survey and repair/relacement of her running gear.
She also got carpeting in the public spaces and some room categories, as well as marble in the atrium. There was probably some other behind the scenes work that was done also.

Well, looking over the Magic's 2012 schedule if they do a drydock on her that year DCL will have to cancel a cruise or two to free up time for it. There are a couple days between the 9/12 5-day cruise and first cruise out of Galveston on 9/22 but that allows travel time and a day for festivities in Galveston. If she has a drydock in 2013 that would still fall within the 2 in 5 year timeframe.

The captains have been whispering of a major interior overhaul on the two older ships, so waiting till 2013 might make sense....they'll have 3 ships sailing if they decide to take the Magic out for a longer time, and it is still within the twice in 5 year rule.
