As for last names, anyone over 18 can get a legal name change. You can change it to whatever you want you have to pay the legal fees however, when you get married you don't

Had she not gotten married she could have chosen to change her name to Princess Consuela Bananahammock as well.

I love how Christine listed herself as single and her "companion" supplied $1200 a month to the household. She also got food stamps until 2010 when she filed for bankruptcy.
Scamming the welfare system is common in "PLYG" families. They really are not self-supporting. This family is not exception, until the show money arrived. Meri and Kody files in 2006. |

Wow, those bankruptcy papers were interesting! I guess when Kody and Meri filed, they included Kody's other kids? Since they only actually have one together. And it was interesting that until two years ago Christine was getting food stamps.
Wonder where they would be today without the show, given their financial situation there. And what will happen to them when it ends. I wonder if they even plan it deliberately: "we'll put everything on Janelle's credit cards, then let her go bankrupt" so that all those debts are effectively cancelled. Then while Janelle builds her credit back up, they put everything on Meri's credit cards, and again go bankrupt. Debts cancelled. But no problem, now they can put things on Christine's credit cards. By the time she goes bankrupt, Janelle will be able to have a credit card again and they can start the cycle over. TP |

Wow, this information is really disappointing. I'm all for people living their lives how they want to but if they are making terrible financial decisions and living off of tax payers,
. Wasn't Merri going to school during the first season, what was that for? I don't understand why these women can't get jobs, I'd love to be able to stay home with my kid too (when he was little) but then I COULDN'T PAY THE BILLS, so I've worked full time his entire life.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread that each adult is paid $75,000/episode for the show. If that is true, do the math: $75,000x5=$375,000x8=$2,960,000. $2,960,000 per season!!! They are ROLLING in it! The four houses can be paid for free-and-clear and they still have a million left over? I'm simply mystified
by all this talk about them being poor...

There is a great blog site that discusses the episodes, the family, their many bankruptcies and speculates on how much they get paid by TLC (the consensus there is that it is much less than what has been speculated here). Anyway, if you are interested in the show, it is worth checking out.
http://sisterwivesblog.blogspot.com/ I always tell myself that I am going to stop watching this show but it is like a trainwreck that I can't turn away from!.

Train wrecks are dramatic. It's what keeps reality shows in business.

About the house in Utah, on the episode where they go back with their dog, Meri says her sister is renting the house from them.
