Please Help -- Might Need To Change Trip

So we are supposed to leave on vacation on Thursday, and my daughter was just diagnosed with the flu.

We rented points to stay at a DVC property. Does anyone know what the date change policy is in this situation? I have not been able to contact the person we are renting from yet.

Any help would be appreciated! We are freaking out.

Only the person you rented from can help you in this situation. It can be very difficult/impossible to reschedule a DVC reservation, due to many factors including when the points expire, if there is room availability, etc. Do you have a contract with the owner that states what their cancel policy is? Good luck. I hope your DD feels better and that you can go on your trip as planned.

I think the pp is correct.

So sorry your DD has the flu. Did the rest of your family get put on TamiFlu or similar meds? If not, I would call and ask for it! If your DD has had symptoms less than 48 hrs, antivirals might help her get over it faster, too.

For the Owner, cancelling a reservation 30-1 day(s) prior to check in results in the points being placed into a Holding Account. This means their usage is restricted to reservations made within 60 days.

For a renter, the only "policy" that applies is whatever was agreed upon between you & the owner. DVC policy means nothing to a renter. It is a private transaction between 2 individuals. If you rented through a service like David's I would check your contract.

Did your DD got the flu shot since that sometimes will help shorten the duration and lessen the symptoms. DD 17mo just had it last week, she came down with the fever on Sunday and got diagnosed on Monday with the flu, she did have the flu shot so her fever only got up to 102 and she was good to go by Wednesday afternoon and except for a cough you could not tell she had it at all by Thursday

Hopefully if you have to postpone you can work something out with the person you rented the points from, otherwise I hope for a speedy recovery so you can enjoy most of your trip.

I'd also be going back to the doctor to ask about Tamiflu or another antiviral for DD and the rest of the family. Good luck. Hopefully she'll be a lot better by Thurs. Are you flying? Be sure you give DD Dimetapp or some sort of decongestant before flight.

Thanks for all the info. I don't think we could change anyway because the airfare costs alone would be almost $1500.

She is actually feeling a little better today. We started her (and us) on Tamiflu yesterday, and her fever is a little lower (99.5). I just hope it doesn't get worse. I am cautiously optimistic!
