Pop Century connecting rooms

I was wondering if anyone knew whether you can get a king bed room that connects to a regular 2 double bed room?

We've got guaranteed connecting rooms (it's listed on our confirmation) and it would be perfect if we could get the king and the double.

TIA!

There are king rooms that connect to doubles, but there are only between 150 and 160 king rooms in the entire resort, and just over half of those are handicap-accessible.

Please DON'T shoot the messenger, but 'guaranteed connecting' actually means 'guaranteed connecting if available ahead of other guests who didn't request in advance, behind guests who are already in connecting rooms whether they requested it or not'. You might (only might) need to be willing to compromise, e.g. if there are no connecting rooms when you check in, take what's available and move the next day.

We once received a king connecting to a double at POP but it was there doing not ours because it was all that was available for connecting.

Note that Disney will tell you in one breath that you have "guaranteed connecting rooms" while with the next breath they will tell you that nothing is guaranteed. And that is what they will fall back on if your "guaranteed" connecting rooms are not available when you check in.

All your reservation guarantees your 100% is a room at A Disney resort. And not even at the resort for which you made your reservation. As kaytieelder pointed out, you are guaranteed a connecting room IF they have them available.

I really wish they would stop putting that on people's reservations.

Thanks for that information. We weren't told that was even a possibility when we booked. Since we have 4 kids, the booking CM said we were 100% guaranteed to get one of the connecting rooms. DH even asked her like 10x during the call and again when we called to extend our trip just a couple weeks ago, another CM said the same thing.

Ugh, something else to worry about!

I do appreciate the heads up though. Maybe we'll get super lucky and they'll bump us from Pop into a 2bedroom at SSR. (hey, a girl can dream right? )

Honestly, the booking CMs can give out some of the worst information. We have seen enough people with "guaranteed connecting" not get their connecting rooms... even one party that was a single adult with a group of minor children. Disney's thinking is that since there are two adults, that you can split the adults between the two rooms even if they do not connect.

Sorry about that. Disney will do their best to meet your request I am sure... but if connecting rooms are not available, then they are not available.

It's not your fault. I really do appreciate the heads up because DH would simply blow a gasket at the check in desk if we're not prepared for this possibility.

He's still riled up about the problems we had at SSR at the beginning of the month, regarding the new computer system and that had nothing to do with being separate from his family.

Be polite but assertive. The CMs at Pop - at any Disney resort - unfortunately have no control over what the reservationists promise. They will try, they really will. They just can't install a door between rooms if they run out of connecting rooms.

This is a hard statistic for me to explain, and I love numbers : 50% of the rooms at Pop connect to other rooms. Before you get excited - and that is good news - remember, half of those connect to each other. Clear as mud, right?

I get it and I'll make sure to check in for us. I'm better at getting us the rooms we need/want anyway. And I'm planning on checking in at 6am anyway so maybe luck will be on my side.

Please don't listen to these worry worts. Half of the rooms in the Pop Century resort are connecting rooms and you WILL be assigned two connecting rooms. Seriously, I don't understand why people feel they have to be the bearers of bad news when there isn't any bad news.

I have stayed at POP several times and the only time I was not in a connecting room was when I specifically ask for a non-connecting room.

With regards to the king sized bed, that is more of a long shot, but here is my suggestion: They typically assign rooms about five days before you check in. When you get five days out from your trip, call POP Century directly (407.938.4000) and ask nicely to talk to the CM who is assigning rooms. Explain your situation to the room assigner and keep your fingers crossed for some pixie dust.

GOOD LUCK!

Since you are checking in early I think getting connecting rooms should not be a problem but getting a King room is fairly unlikely. There are so few of them. You also need to think about if they offer you a handicapped acessible King room would you still want it--they have different bathrooms some with roll in showers where the whole bathroom is basically the shower. I personally do not like the handicapped bathrooms at all. I get cold easily and those showers just make me unhappy

We got our connecting rooms in September (we had one room for me, DH & DS2 and another room for my 16 y.o sister). I was worried we wouldnt get one, but we did. There are only a small amount of king rooms at the resort to begin with so I wouldnt get my hopes up for a king bed connected to a 2 doubles. It could happen, but not likely, and the more requests you make, the less likely you are to get them. Good luck!

We're not worried (and yes, I feel safe speaking for the other posters in this thread whom you've labeled worrywarts). We're trying to help the original poster by providing facts.

Thank you. I addressed this in post nine. Yes, "half" the rooms in Pop Century are connecting rooms, but they connect to each other. In actuality, a quarter of the rooms are connecting rooms.

Please don't assure anyone something you cannot guarantee. Walt Disney World doesn't guarantee it (read the information permanently printed on the back of your reservation documentation some time). Someone who doesn't work for the company surely can't make that kind of promise.

All you're guaranteed is A room (or rooms, if you reserve multiple rooms).

If you'll reread the responses you seem not to like, we're simply trying to let the OP know what may occur. It probably won't. She'll probably get connecting rooms.

It would be greatly appreciated if misinformation were not spread.
  • When rooms were assigned by people, it was done two or three days prior to Guest arrival.
  • Rooms are now assigned by computer (which shouldn't have any negative effect on connecting room requests and should, if the programming works right, actually be beneficial).
  • When anybody calls that number, they get a call center where the person answering the phone sees that "Pop Century" is being called and answers appropriately.
  • When there were Room Assigners - and there were more than one given Pop's potential 700+ daily turnover - they were too busy doing that job to come to the phone no matter how nicely anybody would have asked to speak to one - if the caller had been ever able to get through to the resort itself.

There have been posts on this board where people had "guaranteed connecting rooms" only to find out when they got there that there were none available. Yes, it's rare but the poster wanted to let the OP know that it's not 100%.
