Paying for Parking?!

Ah crap.

I've been seeing people mentioning having to pay for parking.

I thought if you were parked at your resort it was free. Is that true? I probably won't drive anywhere while we're there, is there a per-day fee?

Will I have to pay to park if I want to drive to MK and park my car there?

I just never thought about that.

There is no parking charge for resort guests. Will you be staying at an on-site hotel?

Yeah, I'll be at CSR.

Does that include parking at a park like MK? How do I let them know I'm staying at a resort?

Yes. Parking at all of the parks is free for guests of Disney resorts. Someone else will have to weigh in as to how that process works as we never have a car on site.

When you check in you get a paper that you put on your dashboard that shows what resort you are staying at and the dates of your stay. The parking attendants will wave you through.

Your home resort will issue a parking pass for your car that will be stamped with your check out date.
Just show it to the attendant at the parking gate at whatever park you are visiting and they will wave you thru. It expires at midnight, the end of your check-out day.

It includes a parking pass for all parks. This is a much better way to travel to parks than the bus. The monorail is an option at Disney or Epcot.

Thanks everyone!

Is it really faster to drive myself?! I have lots of early morning ADRs... and I hate being late. I guess with the bus system I never really thought about driving around.

I would say it can be faster, as with the bus you are waiting for it to arrive. Also at park closing the buses can get busy, meaning that there have been times when we have waited for 2 or 3 buses before we could even get on one. Also, it can be less hassle. For instance, if you have small children that are in a stroller it can be a pain to pack up all your bags/stroller/children and load them onto and off of the bus (and having all of this makes it really hard if there is only standing room on the bus). As others have stated you will get a pass for your car at checkin. Just leave it on your dash and they will just tell you to go through.

The Unofficial Guide has a section comparing driving times vs. bus times. I think the biggest advantage for the bus is MK because it drops you much closer than the parking lot.

Bear in mind that when driving to MK, you will still have to take the monorail or ferry from the TTC, and likely will want to take the tram to the TTC. Disney transportation drops you off near the front gate, so for this reason Disney transportation will usually be faster than driving to the MK.

Unless everything goes perfectly (ie no traffic, last stop at resort, no ECV to load, bus pulling in right when you get there) it is almost always faster to drive your own car to the parks. I would say it is about breakeven for the MK but we still usually drive because my son likes the monorail and boat.

Gotcha!

Buses to MK. Driving most other places. Thankfully it'll just be the two of us and no kid this time. I'll just have to convince him to walk, lol.

I'll be picking up an unofficial guide in a few days for DFi and I. I'll keep an eye out for that section.
