Jennasis - I've been thinking about you all day today with the crap going on in Greece. I pray that you, and all the other athletes and coaches participating are safe!

As for our girl, the vet is coming out tomorrow. She seems to have a problem seeing when she comes in from outside. She actually walks into things, such as the hay wagon. So we're not sure if she's klutzy or is having sight problems. She has also become very attached to my DD's horse - very attached. She gets extremely agitated when she isn't with her. There are quite a few examples in the last week alone so we're all getting concerned that she may be losing her sight. Might be why she ended up in auction and could possibly explain some of her behavior.
I'll post more once we hear something.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about your horse's eyes. Let us know as soon as the vet has some answers. Out of curiosity, does she have this problem if she's been wearing a flymask during the day and then comes in and you take off the mask? If you haven't tried a mask on her yet, give it a shot. Maybe she needs the "sunglasses" during the bright sunny day? My horse has Immune Mediated Keratitis in both eyes (his immune system attacks his corneas, causing a build up of keratin...cloudiness). The mask seems to help a bit.

As for Greece, I totally FREAKED out Monday night. I was flipping through channels and saw on the news that there is rioting and protests on the streets of Athens. I made an inquiry to our management team about it and was told that the GOC (the Games Organizing Committee) in Greece has made an agreement with the labor unions, where the unions have promised not to strike or protest or anything during the games.

We'll see...

On a happier note, I head out on Friday!! Totally nerve wracking but very exciting!

I just found out that the opening games of the Special Olympics are to be televised this Saturday, 2 p.m. on ESPN 3. They are also doing the closing ceremony as well.

I'm going to DVR it and watch it slowly after vacation.

Let's all try to pick out Jennasis!!!

Jennasis - Not sure if you have the time or the technology over there, but I wish you and all the athletes the best! Hope everyone has a great time!!!

Hello from Greece ladies!

We are actually getting ready to depart from Rhodes today on the 15 hour (yes FIFTEEN HOUR) ferry ride from the isle of Rhodes, where we were hosted for the first 4 days, to Athens where we compete. The place is unbelievably beautiful and the weather downright heavenly!

Our athletes were invited to train at a local farm and the owner and his wife were beyond fantastic to us all. The horses were just lovely and the athletes did great!

Opening Ceremonies are Saturday and will be aired live on espn3.com starting at 1pm EST. TEAM USA is in the heinous red checkered shorts.

As for the "unrest" in Greece....we were told last night that the agreement between the GOC and the unions fell through and to expect many a violent clash. So...yeah.

Otherwise, things are humming along just fine! Will update again when I can (internet access here is spotty and expensive but we've been told that our hotel in Athens has complementary wifi. We'll see. We've been told MANY things that changed at the last minute or were simply not true.

Peace y'all!

Great pics!!

No riding for me for awhile. I tripped in the house on Sunday and broke my elbow. Thankfully I don't need surgery or a cast, but there is no way I could ride right now. At least it's 100 degrees outside and I don't really feel like riding anyway.

Been a great summer for Ivan so far. Usually he's plagued with crazy allergies and hives all summer long, but so far so good this year. He hasn't broken out in hives once and although his eyes are sometimes a little watery and red, it's nothing like the past summers. I just keep a fly mask on him during the day and he is doing super so far.

We're on the boat to Athens now. Remember how I said info changes or is simply incorrect? Well the "complimetary" wifi on the boat costs 3 Euro for 2 hours, and the fifteen hour ride is now estimated at around SEVENTEEN hours.

We coaches all had a bit of a totall nuclear meltdown when we arrived at the ferry terminal and found all this out, and when they loaded the thousand + athletes from around the world, Team USA was last to get on and all the available seats were taken except for the top roof deck where we found two benches and 30mph winds. After we all through an absolute hissy that our athletes were expected to sleep OUTDOORS on the windy roof for 17 hours, we found a kind group of Americans who were on board to assist with this Saturdays torch lighting who gave up their seats in the main salon for us.

Now my athletes are playing Uno and enjoying this big "adventure" and we coaches are a tad greyer around the ears than when we got to Greece.

Fun fun fun!
