St Thomas Tour Question

Does anyone reccomened a tour at St Thomas - we have a 7 yr old and i was looking for a tour that you could ride and then they drop you off and you can shop and eat and then they take you back? Or can we just get of the ship and walk and do all that? maybe I don't need a tour? thanks

Once you get off the ship there will be a ton of cabs ready to take you anywhere you want. If you just tell them you want to go downtown and shop, they will take you right there. They are nice open air taxis. Try "Coconuts" to eat. Its a fun place right on main st. You can check their website out too. Just google Coconuts St Thomas

Not to hijack the thread...but with the Taxis. Are they safe with smaller children - 4 and 9 mths? Also, how much do they usually charge?

Yes, they are safe but, have a price before you get into the cab and then make sure they stick to it when you get to your destination.

We did the St. Thomas tour in June of 2009. It was ok. I learn somethings about St. Thomas. I always like to see where i have been. It might be a little boring for you child. We actually shop around the pier and then went back to the boat.

We did an independent tour with a guide we found on CruiseCritic with Papa Bear Tours (airforceone dot com) He was great. We paid $25 a person for an open air van island tour and beach trip. He took us all over, stopped often for picture sights, and brought along fresh fruit that he washed and cut open for us to sample when he showed us the trees. He also took us to Mountain Top and to the Botanical Gardens.

It was raining so hard that day, so he took us downtown to shop first because we wouldn't have been able to see anything with is so cloudy, then did the tour and then to the beach. We had to leave the beach early because of lightning, and he felt so bad he kept refusing to take our money (we did finally get him to let us pay him!)

There were 2 other families with us on our tour, so it's not private, but it was so worth the money.

Yes the taxis are very safe for young children. Actually they probably will love the ride. The ride slow and the drivers are very friendly. NOthing like you see in the states sometimes. I think the price $4-$6 per person into Charlotte Amalia (the downtown shopping area)

On another board, we found a lot of folks recommending Sunny Liston and we took his tour last year. It was great with a tour, time for shopping, and time at the beach. Very reasonable too.
