Will I love AKL?

I've just booked a very unexpected trip on a PIN code we got in the mail. We'll be there May 1st-May 8th. Originally I booked POR, then on a whim, upgraded to AKL. I cannot afford to upgrade to any room other than standard view which I know will probably be the parking lot. Believe it or not, I'm OK with that! I'm just excited to be staying at this resort! What are your favorite things about this resort? What keeps you coming back? TIA!!!

We're staying at AKL for the 3rd time in September. We absolutely love the resort. We have no problem with the distance from everything (that's the only real complaint I've really read on here).

The resort is just so unique. The atmosphere is amazing. There is so much to see and do.

AKL is super fun, our whole family loved it. It's beautiful & lush, nice balconies, lots of neat nooks & crannies to explore on the property. We go back to Boma every trip to WDW.
Just a note- the majority of rooms in the resort are actually Savannah view, so people often get a savannah room even if they haven't requested it. So it would be worth your while to politely ask if there is one available. Worked for us!
Enjoy!

Thanks everyone!!!! I made a ressie for Boma and have read up on it, but haven't learned much about Mara. Are the offerings similar to Pepper Market at CSR? I love the Pepper Market for having so many wonderful choices. Just reading all of the wonderful reviews is making me so excited!! I cannot wait until May!!

Even without a savannah view, there are several great places to view the animals. That, plus the 2 hot tubs, nice pool, Boma, music, etc.--you'll enjoy it.

There are fire pits at night where you can talk to CMs from Africa and hear stories. They are also very knowledgeable on the animals and it is very peaceful.

We just spent 10 days at Kidani Village, and while I didn't like it as well as Jambo house, I thought it was wonderful. We ate dinner at Boma and tried so many unique items that I came home and looked up several recipes from there that I can't wait to try. I'm not adventurous an eater, but I found myself willing to try a ton of unique foods at Boma.

Enjoy your stay!

DH and I BOTH () cried a little when ME took us away from AKL. It is just amazing. The theming is like nothing else. When we walked into the lobby for the first time, we were speechless. The pool area is fantastic (truly an oasis from the Parks). The animal viewing areas, the food options, the CM's, the rooms, Mousekeeping, activities for the kids, even the gift shop...everything was wonderful.
As far as *distance* from everything... I just don't get it? People talk like it's in Tampa. We spent much more time on the buses getting back and forth to the Parks from other resorts than we did AKL.
We loved everything about our stay there.

I agree with all the PP's about the reasons they love AKL. The one other thing I just loved about staying at AKL was the feeling that you were still in a park when you got back to your resort. It truly is a very unique and special place with an atmosphere like no other resort.

We had a stardard view room and had a very nice view of the pool. We loved as we walked along the hallways getting glimpses of different animals out of the windows. Using the night vision goggles is alot of fun too.It is such a beautiful resort.
We also enjoyed going out the back viewing area in the early morning and seeing the animals when it was nice and quiet and talking to the cast members. Loved the zebra cakes too. You will love it.

Bus transportation was perfect at kidani in my opinion! I'd like to race someone from MK to AKL vs MK to BWI and see who gets there first!

I agree! The bus service from here was fantastic! We never waited more than 15 min for a bus either direction. And it is a nice little path to get there too.
