It looks like The Diamond Horseshoe will be open while we are there in a couple of weeks, I haven't been there since I was a kid, so we are going to have to go for lunch there on one of our days

Has anyone been there during one of the Holiday periods, that seems to be the only time they are ever open, does it still look the same as it used to or did the change everything

This time next week I will be hard at work at WDW, figuring this new FP+ system pros and cons, and how us Commandos may or may not benefit from it

I put some thoughts about it in my last trip report. The pros are being able to select times in advance. While it was just Epcot, I commando engineered our trip from morning up until our early dinner ADR perfectly, even without retracing out steps. The cons were only having the 3 FP, and tiered ones at Epcot. So, while we were able to do most of the ones at Epcot (and all the ones we wanted), I was only able to ride Soarin once that day. With the legacy FP, I was able to do all the rides as well as get Soarin two or three times. Then, after dinner, I had used up all our FPs, but I was still able to predict what attractions would be mostly no wait times, and they were.

Good luck and have a great trip.

OMG! I can't believe I have missed this thread. I am so Commando it totally irritates my travel partners. In 1999 I took my SIL with me. She was walking too slow and crabbing about how fast we were taking it. That made her really crabby. I stopped, midstride, turned around and said "This is the happiest place in the world Dammit, get happy and move those feet." She said I was a drill sargeant, but she got her move on.

DH and I now know our plans, so I don't have to plan as much anymore. If someone else is going with us, I will make out flash cards with the time to leave our resort room, mode of transportation, park opening activities, what we will experience, in which order, and estimated time of arrival at each ride. I instruct them to study (ie. memorize) the flash cards and be prepared.

Things have changed since FP+. If staying on site, it makes it really easy, and my cards have the FP+ times. I go crazy staying off site, though. When we were there in October, off site did not have FP+. I tried to get everyone out the door even earlier. I saw rebellion after only a couple days.

Hope to join your club.

You are member #255, Once you figure out a plan that works well, it is so true that you spend less time planning stuff, since it most likely will work again, In June we will be going with friends for Star War Weekends (none of us have been there for this before), they are also Veteran Commandos so we are all on the same page

It will still take some time to understand this whole FP+ system, since they keep changing things, Next week I think finding all the kiosk's in the parks could be of value to us since they are talking about soon being able to get more FP+ once your last of the day is used

So funny, but also oh so familiar. I can't help walking fast and wanting to do as much as possible. So glad I am not alone.

Welcome. Flash cards are a good idea. I've moved everything over to my phone now. But, we are just still a small group.

Welcome. Never been to Disneyland, so can't compare. I pick one park and go all day in that park. And, I like days of down time at the resort. I don't do park hoppers because I don't want to lose time in the transportation. The FP+ worked well for us.

You are member #256 When in Nov are you going, always a lot going on at WDW this month

I have never been to DL, WDW has ALOT more ground to cover and more spread out

You have a long flight to get there, I guess you can say you will be going back in time, and on the way home it will be back to the future

I will be at WDW from the 12th to the 18th. I am planning to do a MVMCP during this time

I planning to be a walking lots and lots before I get over there so I am ready for all the walking.

Ssshhh don't mention the flight I'm trying not to think about it lol. Yes I leave at 9am on the 6th and arrive at 8.45pm on the 6th but that will be the 7th in Aus and and when I go back I leave the USA on the 20th and get back to Aus on the 22nd- crazy crazy stuff.

In less then 48hrs there will be WDW Commando presence at WDW, in the last 12 hours I have learned a few things that I must add to our quest, a friend just got back and said they were on The Mine train This is high level must check out, as for other sources, a new show being tested for the next few weeks at AK Dinoland that stars Prof. Parker Woodson & Val the Velocoraptor & in HS they have a cupcake for Earth day that will be around a couple weeks that is pretty much worms in dirt, but I have to have one

Each day I'll be hitting the morning EMH at the parks, as of now the latest park is only open to 11pm I hope this changes otherwise I will be too rested for the next day

Day 1
8am MK hope to hit Mine train, Mermaid & Space Mountain by 9:30

Day 2
- 8am HS hope to hit RRRC &TSM by 9am

Day 3
- 8am Safari & Expiation Everest by 9:15

Day 4
- 9am Epcot

Test Track & Mission Space by 10

If I can get these rides in during EMH it will set my days up for success

As I typically do, I have been reading my book version of the Unofficial Guide. I keep reading about taking breaks and having "easy days" etc. I haven't ever done that. Well, I do pick an earlier bedtime for some days or later park start after a late night but that's it. How imperative do fellow commandos feel "rest days" or "rest hours" may be?

My spreadsheet has only one "sleep in day" and a few short resort breaks between parks ...have hoppers.
