Actually, at least six of them were not wearing seatbelts.

Quote:
As the vehicle was rolling over, six of the eight occupants were ejected.

....

None of the ejected passengers were wearing a seatbelt.
The articles says that the driver was properly restrained. It doesn't say if the eighth person (who was not ejected and did survive) was wearing a seatbelt or not.

Sorry, my quotes were from here: http://www.katc.com/news/five-family...-disney-world/

From the article you linked:

Quote:
Police said the driver then over-corrected and the vehicle began to rollover, ejecting six of the seven passengers, none of whom were wearing seat belts, according to Colonel Mike Edmonson.

So sad... They were probably unbuckled so they could lay down to sleep. A former football player and student from my University died in a car crash this year. Also wasn't wearing his seat belt.

I remember my first chance driving on the interstate when I was 15 or 16 on the way to Disney World. I feel so bad for this family, especially those in the car who survived and will have to live with this memory. I can't imagine the guilt of the driver.

Wow. I can't believe both parents were teachers and the children weren't in seatbelts or carseats. The poor kid who was driving will probably feel guilty for the rest of his life when it was his parent's responsibility to ensure the younger children were buckled in.

We're driving next week from Texas and things like this really hit home for me. We make sure to take lots of breaks, even a nap in the car if we have to so that we're alert for the drive. I think sometimes we take for granted just how dangerous cars are in general and tend to forget what they're capable of. What a tragedy and so sad for the survivors as well

I also drive from Texas (but take I10) and know that it is a long trip...as someone that has been driving for nearly 30 years (yikes, just did that math and now feel OLD) I wouldn't want to be driving at night on little sleep (we always have a stop scheduled that is a reasonable hour).

We make DD wear her belt, even if she wants to sleep, she has to do so sitting up, completely restrained.

no seltbelts on everyone, inexperienced and tired driver...very sad that it happened...especially as we all know, they must have all been so excited and happy when setting out.

All so very true. Sad.

And oftentimes, people mistakenly think those SUV trucks, especially the bigger ones like the one here (a jumbo Tshoe), are safe, even safer than a car. So often they roll like this, killing and/or injuring along the way.

Makes us all put in perspective for even a brief minute about how it could all end in a blink of an eye. Arguing over buttons or crying about FP+ or park hours changing on the fly don't seem that important at all when this is the alternative for this family. My heart goes out to all of them, that driver is going to feel this the rest of his life. Heartbreaking.

I can't even imagine what life will be like for the 16 year old driver moving forward. Absolutely heart-wrenching.

It appears that the mom (Trudi Hardman) was a huge Disney fan. I wonder if she was on the DISboards. Anyway, PLEASE WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS!
