They are called W.I.S.Hers. On this thread, TXBelle (Heather) shares the history of W.I.S.H. and how it all began. You are always welcome to post on the W.I.S.H boards and ask questions, or to offer advice for someone else. Once you've posted, you are automatically a member of W.I.S.H! Within W.I.S.H there are smaller teams of about 20 people each. You do not have to be on a team to be a member of W.I.S.H and you do not have to be a member of W.I.S.H to be on a team. They are just a way for smaller groups of people to get to know each other and to offer more personalized advice and suggestions. How can I join a team? Right now, jmasgat (Maura) is coordinating the teams. Go to this thread and post that you would like to join a team. You might also like to mention if you are an experienced athlete or just starting out, if you are a runner, a walker or a biker or what your goals are. She will try to match you up with a team that will benefit from your current fitness levels and goals. Maura maintains the team leaders and members and makes sure the numbers stay pretty even. She will decide when it is time to start a new team and will coordinate that effort. About the Rebels On February 7, 2009, windwalker asked for a volunteer to lead a new team he named Rebel Alliance. It didn't appear that there were many people eager to take on that job! Soon however, Suzann and scoolover (Scott) stepped up and offered to share the duties of heading up the new team. Back then, every team member had to announce their monthly miles and minutes and the team captain kept a team total. Before long the team had 11 members and by June we were up to 14. One of the latest monthly threads was started in July of 2009 by Suzann until K80K (Katie) started one in September of that same year. October was skipped and a November thread was started by wdwprincess (Jane). By this time, most members of the team had drifted away. "Real life" got in the way, training slowed down, there was an injury... For whatever reason, it appeared that the Rebels had disbanded. In January of 2010, deekaypee (Debra) started asking for opinions for the new year and scoolover (Scott) offered to re-start the Rebels. He started a thread asking if any past team members were interested in coming back, and a few did. Then jmasgat (Maura) started filling the team in with brand new people who were either new to W.I.S.H or were ready to join a team. The numbers rose quickly and before long the team had 20 members. Because of personal reasons, scoolover (Scott) asked disney_mommy (Andrea) to take over as team captain in February 2010. She accepted and the team is in its current state. Helpful Tips/Links Need general information about a variety of topics, including running, walking, programs, gear, pacing? Check out this great thread by chimera. It includes links to a huge number of resources you might find useful. Looking for a fun way to get in some extra walking? How about joining the Walk to Disney Challenge? Keep track of your daily walking miles (by pedometer or GPS) and log them in. See how close you would be if you were actually walking to The World! Many Rebels are signed up on DailyMile.com, a site to post your workout miles/minutes and talk about them. It could be called the Facebook of workouts. If you sign up, feel free to "friend" the Rebels listed below. Be sure to include a note in your friend request mentioning you are a Rebel! disney_mommy - DM username "disney_mommy" luckymum22 - DM username "LuckyMum22" jenanderson - DM username "jenanderson" If you are interested in getting a ticker for your signature (for a weight loss goal, or just for an upcoming vacation), the DIS has its own options now. They can be found here. If you would like a Userbar for your signature, check out this thread. bellaDisneydncr created a bunch of W.I.S.H userbars as well as Rebel Alliance specific bars (they are on page 2, post #27, or here). Also on her thread are bars for the Disney races. If you'd like to use an animator, an excellent one can be found here. The Rebels have several logo options, if you would prefer to have one of them in your signature. They can be found on this post. Jane - That must have been some cut if it kept you from running! Glad it finally healed up.
So how was Eclipse? I hope to see that this weekend. LuvCuteBoys - There is nothing wrong with walking a race! At least you got out there and did it. As for stride, I think a shorter stride is good. If you have fast feet turnover, you can cover longer distance in a shorter amount of time. Learning to harness that is hard, though. I'm with you on the heat thing. I would much rather be cold and bundled up then sweaty and miserable. Barb - I agree with Jane, that is awesome that you invited our new teammate to join you. Way to be! Stacie - to the Rebels! It sounds like you are well on your way in your training. A few of us are also doing the W&D, so you will have company as we train for that. I, too will be enjoying an adults only vacation again, for that race. I had a blast solo at the Princess, so I'm really looking forward to this one in October. Please feel free to jump right in and chat away. Ask questions, offer advice or suggestions, or just chat. We're all here for each other.

What to eat?
For those of you who have experience with night time races, what do you eat on race day? Being that the Wine and Dine does not begin until 10pm, I am not sure how to plane meals for this day.

Stacie, I've never done a night race, but I've thought lots about it, and here's what I'm going to do:
I'm going to eat a nice breakfast of whatever I want, then I'm going to eat a carb heavy lunch around 1 or so. About 5:30 or 6, I'm going to have a light dinner with some carbs and maybe a salad and some protein. I haven't decided, but I might have a little something right before the race, a granola bar or something similar and small. I'm curious as to what others will do.

So I survived June! Of course now my mind refuses to let my body run, lol. I do have a race tomorrow morning, but it is only a 6K, so I am going to take it easy and use it as a training run. Then Monday I will do a long run of about 5 or 6.

Katie, I think your mind realizes your body needs a break! Take it crazy lady!!
![]() I tend to get heartburn badly and am on a daily anti-acid, so I will definitely stay away from my trigger foods that afternoon on. Thanks for the heads up.

I run my short runs in the evening so it's a good chance for me to test out some lunch time foods. I've never run a race or long run in the evening. But Katie's advice sounds logical.
I'm really relieved to be staying at BCV so at least I can bring my own food and control what I'm eating. |

But sincerely, thank you!!! It was so nice to read your post inviting me to do something when I've never even talked to you! I was really hesitant to even join one of these groups but I'm glad that I did.I'm going to start the C25K program on Tuesday. Let's hope that the temperature drops slightly and that it doesn't rain. LOL. Hope everyone is having a FABULOUS 4th of July!!! I'm being nice and lazy today!

I think it is great that you are getting started on the C25K. Get out there Day 1, tomorrow, and keep it going and be sure to let us all know how it went! You certainly can walk a 5K when you are ready or do a pattern of a walk/run. These community events are great for first time 5Kers and walkers. When you map out your couch to 5K program and know your end date, sign up for a race (and pay for it!) Then you will have a concrete goal and just go and have fun...you always PR on your first race! ![]() No need to be shy! Meeting folks before a race at the starting line or finding them at the finish, is a great way to make new friends! You share a common anxiety before the race, and exhilaration after the race, that only those who did it experience. It is so much fun to do these races! -I'd be out there every Saturday morning if I could! I have met many new friends running! Someone I ran with at those Frozen Foot 5K races last winter now meets me for casual training runs and we have done lots of 5K's together in just a few short months. My husband and I found an adventure race to do in August but you have to be a team of three and we asked my new friend-she said she always wanted to do an adventure race but didn't have anyone to do it with! A team was born and now my husband has someone to talk to about zombie movies! Relax and enjoy the process. The transition from the couch to being a runner is magical! Congratulations on finding the courage to start! ~Barb PS - We will be doing the same 5K next summer because we visit at the same time every year for a family birthday -so mark your calendar for 2011!

Hello everyone!
I'm down here......falling off the wagon but pulling myself back up little by little! I was a rough 2 weeks with my vacation in WDW, and then last week was just packed full of events for my hubby's 26th birthday and the 4th of July celebrations! I got back out there today though! Did a nice 40 minute walk, about 2.5 miles I think. Found a great motivation for mid walk speed....potty break! I had a nice negative split by the time I made it back to my house! I plan to get back into a good walking routine this week and next week and then start supplementing with some of the Cross-Fit training I was doing earlier. Ok there is the plan, in writing! Now I must stick to it! I'm just trying to figure out what my long run should be this week since it has been 2 weeks since I did any type of distance. Before I was at 5 miles.....I'm thinking of doing 5 miles again and then picking back put with my M4M program. Any thoughts? Welcome Stacie!!

Hi Rebels, I have not been here for over a month and I am sorry about that.
Well, were do I start? I am sure some of you remember that I have been having problems with my lungs since April. Unfortunately, nothing has changed and it has gotten a little worse. The beginning of last month I had bronchitis which pretty much sidelined me from training in the month of June. I got over the bronchitis in short order but my breathing issues still remained. However, the meds that the doctor at Express Care prescribed to me made me realize that I was pretty sick. So, I decided that I had to quit this denial stuff and see my primary doctor for help on this. Last week I took some test and failed my breathing test badly. Now, I am waiting for a Pulmonologist to call me this week to review my tests and give me an action plan for the future. Sadly, I have been afraid to post here because I did not want to drag everyone down with my problems. But, I am pretty sure that was a mistake too. Frankly, I was in denial and I just wanted to cuddle under a rock. Again, I am sorry Rebels for not being here for you. Now for the good news, I am back on schedule with my marathon training. Actually, I have been that way for two weeks now. This past Saturday, I did my scheduled long walk of 16 miles and did great considering all that is going on. I was a little slower than I wanted to be, but I was not wrecked afterwards. Also, taking two puffs from my inhaler and trying to breathe more through my nose has helped a lot. Anyway, this week is cutback week so I am going to enjoy a week of light training. I hope everyone’s week goes well and I plan on sticking around here more often.

LuvCuteBoys - I'm shy too. I'm all kinds of chatty on the boards and stuff, but I know when it comes to seeing Wishers at the start line I'm gonna clam up and just want to listen to my ipod. I completely understand.
Barb - I can't wait to hear about your adventure race. That sounds like so much fun. Nikki - you're back on track now. we've all had some down time here and there. But you came back to it and that's what's important. James - Welcome back. We missed you. I'm going to the pulmonologist on Thursday this week as my running group thinks I have exercise induced asthma. I can't get very deep breaths after I run about 6 ish miles if its really humid. Although I did my 8 miler with no problems (and less humidity). I feel for you. But seriously, even with breathing issues you did 16 miles. I'm stressed about getting in my 10 this weekend. So kudos to you!!! Well, the temps here are ridonkulous!!! Today is going to be 100. I'm thinking that I could "try" to get up early in the a.m. to get a run in before work (not likely) or perhaps I could try to just walk later in the heat. I'm not too worried about getting my short runs in. I can do them as walks. The tricky part is going to be getting my 10 miler in this weekend with all of my birthday festivities. I'm sure to drink more alcohol than water and that's NEVER helpful to my running. Oh well! I'll figure it out. Happy Holy Hotness Day, Rebels!!! |

We are breaking 100 today too. Looks like with the heat index we are looking at between 106 and 107. Blech!
I had a race on Saturday for the 4th. Didn't "train" it as I had planned but I also didn't race it full out. Did a long run yesterday of 6 miles. Luckily it was nice and cool on the trail we were running on. It shocked me how nice it was considering the nasty heat we had this weekend. Also painted my door frame on Saturday and then stained half my deck on Sunday. Rest day today. I need this heat to break so I can stain the rest of the deck!

Jane – Yes, humidity has been rough on my also, especially cool damp air (a killer for me). I am sorry to hear that you might have exercise induced asthma, which is not fun. I am thinking I might have asthma in general. However, I have not been diagnosed yet. The respiratory therapist that did my Pulmonary Function Tests (BTW, is brutal) said that maintenance meds would do me good and make me a new man. Heck, I needed a breathing treatment for parts of the test. Anyway, hang in there and meds will help make training a little less of a struggle.
It has been hot a humid here also.
