Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives

On Sunday, I toured the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Then attended a presentation by Disney Legend Marty Sklar. It was a fascinating exhibit where I learned quite a few things I hadn't known. Marty's presentation with his interactions with Walt was great. For ten years, Marty wrote all the material for Walt, up until Walt's death. He was the words behind the man. Later, he was in charge of Imagineering and to this day he is the only cast member to attend every grand opening of every Park. Here is the link to my Flickr page on the event and a few images from the collection:

I was unsure whether photography was allowed because in the past many of these events it was not. I only brought one of my cameras without the battery grip and the Sigma 30 f1.4 and nothing else. Like most museums, it was very dark for photography and without any filters I struggled with reflections and the little spotlights that caused some reflections and flares. I would have brought more equipment had I known photography (no flash though) was allowed.

Fantastic, Terry. How wonderful to have the opportunity to see these archives. Thanks for sharing your pictures of it.

I understand that they also relaxed the "no photography" rule at the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco to "no flash photography". Pity it came in after my last visit in 2012.

One of the back stories was the telegram. Walt sent that to his brother Roy just after losing the rights to Oswald. He realized he needn't create a new character and that was Mickey, the "details" he spoke about in the telegram.
