Just wanted to see who booked another cruise while on board...we have the Fantasy booked for April 21, 2012 (but we don't know for sure that is what our school vacation week is yet...still haven't released next year's calendar). It is doing an Eastern cruise which I am very happy about as I like the Eastern so much more than the Western.

Welcome home everyone!

We didn't get to meet any of you, but we had the most wonderful time . We rebooked on board (2/26/12) and would recommend a Disney cruise to everyone

I would like to say that our server was nothing special, but we loved our assistant server (Ridwan from Indonesia) and our head server (Tektas from Turkey). They almost made up for the server's lack of oomph.

I saw a comment about the food and wanted to say that it is so interesting how different everyone's experiences can be. Every time I ordered beef it was fabulous! I like my meat medium rare and it always came out perfectly. Tender and flavorful. But much of the other diner options that I ordered were rather bland, thankfully, we knew that that was normal.

Anyway, I'm sorry we didn't do the FE, but we still had a lovely time and reading along with you all was so nice.

Hi everyone!
We had a fantastic time! How great was the weather in Mexico ?
Food wise? We always had a good meal in Triton's but i have to admit that parrot Cay was pretty bad
I will post a complete review when i have a bit of down time. We are now also looking forward to a future Disney cruise in October. we can't wait to go back to the caribbean

This was my 4th cruise and it was just as magical as the ones I took in 2005 and 2007 . We had 6 in our party and almost everyone loved the food! Maybe we just aren't overly picky lol.

Our assistant server (Cici from Portugal) and Head server (Tektas from Turkey) were AWESOME !!! I also had the gnocchi and found it awesome. I am a vegetarian and felt like the veggie options had good variety night to night. My sister is a poultry lover and found all poultry well seasoned and different nightly. My mom loves beef and thought the beef was good all but 1 night (I think it was PC night), my boyfriend likes seafood/beef. He liked all the seafood and his only issue with beef was also PC night. My grandpa likes stuff not too spicy and he found lots of different option each night. My niece is two and loved the mashed potatos onboard lol

I thought the desserts were great actually! I am a sugar fiend (I bake a lot and eat more sweets that I should!) and I never had a bad dessert! We ordered room service multiple times and got an extra sandwich once but other than that everything was perfect (the paninis were really good!). For lunch we ate at the buffet most of the time and liked it each time, no issues there at all. Oh and I love the chilled fruit soups. I wish more restaurants here would have them!

Everyone was so friendly on the ship itself, we thought that character options were varied and plentiful (we did a lot of those because of my niece). The deck parties were fun but busier than I remember them being! The broadway type shows are always great but the magician on the last night was just terrible IMO (Levent or something like that). We did like Bronkar Lee the 1st night!

We saw 2 movies (Gnomeo and Juliet and I am Number 4) and enjoyed the fact that we could see these for free onboard. I liked both movies quite a bit!

Negatives: Though we had a fabulous cruise, nothing is perfect. Our room steward was forgetful and just not great. The room was clean at least but he forget to fill TP once, Tissues once, and our ice bucket multiple times (we asked the first day if we could get ice at night). It wasn't anything horrible but could have been better.
Our server was also forgetful and seemed to get stressed sometimes (to be fair one of he tables in his section complained a lot and were rude to him/talked down to him) but really that isn't an excuse. He was very funny and nice though!
Our room was FREEZING! no matter what we did there seemed to always be cold air blowing!
The hairdryer is a joke (normally we bring our own hairdryer but forgot this time)
We tried to order a specialty cake at guest services and the person helping us had NO idea what we were talking about (in hard-cover info book in the stateroom it said to go to GS to order a specialty cake). Finally we asked our head server (Tektas) and he gave use the form and explained how it worked. We then turned it in to GS to the SAME person who didn't know what we were talking about. He looked so confused and asked where we got the form!

But still, all in all it was a GREAT cruise and I didn't feel that the service has slipped at all from previous years! We want to do Alaska or Transatlantic in 2012...depending on what the itineraries are!

Hope you all had as much fun on the cruise as we did!!

My Review

Our Trip on the Disney Wonder

I am not a Disney person, I like the parks, but do not make special trips to go there. I have no vinyl Disney decals on my car. So take this review with that in mind. We are pretty veteran cruises though, this being our 9th.

We decided to jump on the “Kids Sale Free” (KSF) promo that Disney was running for the Mexican Riviera (MR) cruises on the Wonder. Our whole family: DH, DS16, DS12 decided to go. Our DS16 is profoundly autistic, but does enjoy Disney movies and Disneyland. We cruise quite often, but have never brought him before. We figured this would be the best for him and the cheapest way to try it out. Do to the nature of his autism, we brought along his two helpers. So DH and DS12 were with me in one room, the nannies and DS16 in the other.

We drove from Utah the day before and stayed at the Vagabond Inn in San Pedro. Definitely not the Ritz, but for $125 it included transfers to the port (but not back, weird), parking for the week, and donuts and coffee on Sunday morning. The room was a typical motel, but the seemed to have good security and it was clean.

Sunday morning we took a shuttle to the port at about 11:00am. Holy Monkees it was crowded. There were people everywhere no chairs to be had. Make sure you pre register online AND print out the page. That will save you a lot of hassle. We were able to board in group #1 due to DS16 disability, which was nice. The rest of our party was #17 and they were on about an hour later. Rooms were not available until 2:00 which was typical for any cruise line.

We had an inside cabin for four. It had a queen bed, sofa bed and one Pullman bed above the couch. While spacious for a cruise, it still is pretty tight with the coffee table next to the sofa. There is not tons of drawer space, and there is this weird thing with the closets. They width of the hangers is just a little too wide for the width of the closet. So when slide the sliding door all the way to one side, the hangers get mashed and it makes opening and closing them difficult. The shoulder of my favorite dress got caught and now has a hole in it. Our Nannies room had a much better layout as it was a side facing inside room for three. Even though it is the same size I am sure, it just felt larger. I did like having the little tub, even if I did not use it. It felt larger than a typical cruise shower and much cleaner with less water on the floor. The fridge did not get cold, but cool, and you had to go through 3 doors to get to the fridge. The beds were comfortable, the linens nice. I did not care for the shampoo and conditioner they provided, but that is a personal thing.

The Wonder is a very pretty boat, not flashy, but quietly elegant. I enjoyed all the art on the walls. The boat is showing some wear here and there, but that is to be expected for a boat of this age. Most of the public spaces are very nice, but a lot are underused. I had hoped there would be a more adult activities held in these areas during the day, but no. We particularly liked the Outlook Café which is above the Cove Café. It is on deck 11, for adults and is a nice way to relax with a drink and look out at the ocean. Go for the “adult” coffees! They pack a punch! You can also get a punch pass for the Cove Café where you buy 5, get one free (that does include the “adult” coffees).

We spent the first couple of days at sea getting the layout down of our temporary home. I was very worried about the amount of children on board (over 700) but Disney seems to manage it very well. There were no hoards of crazy teenagers running amok or evil elevator trolls. Since my children were in the older groups, I cannot comment on the Oceaneer’s Lab and such. My niece and nephew seemed to enjoy it, but the large bracelets that had to wear were annoying. The tween and teen groups had a lot of different activities. I thought it was very well done.

Since this was our first Disney cruise, I was very interested in the rotational dining. I have to say I enjoyed it. I think my favorite restaurant was Parrot Cay. I did enjoy Tritons, but we ate there a lot as we don’t usually eat in the buffet. Animator’s Palette was not so hot, the food was fine, but I was expecting more of the “show”. In general I found the food good, not great. There was nothing that blew my skirt up, but then there was nothing that was truly horrible either. We only did the buffet a couple of times as we like the pace better at the dining room. It would have been nice to have more late night choice of food. Most things seemed to close at 9:30pm. I would like to point out some good food points. #1 the lobster tails. They were BY FAR the largest I have ever seen on a cruise, even in the pay restaurants! The tomato & basil soup, very yummy! Also a happy surprise was the pastas! Most were very tasty. My DH enjoyed the braised short ribs as well as the chicken strips and Pluto’s Doghouse. Low points were pretty much most of the desserts and most of the fish dishes, which were overcooked and dry. The times I went to the buffet I was underwhelmed, so I just did not go back.

Since we were traveling with our handicapped son we decided not to do a lot in port. In Puerto Vallarta I just stopped by Wal-Mart for some socks that I forgot and some tequila and vanilla. It was very cheap! Use your credit card for the best exchange rate. Due to the cancelation of Mazatlan, we were in Cabo for two days although one was very short. I went shopping the first day at the outdoor market they have and while there was a lot of stuff, it was stuff we had seen before, so not interested. On the second day we decided to have a beach break and took a water taxi to Lover’s Beach. It was $5 per person round trip. This is not a great swimming beach as the waves are hard and the undertow is strong. The sand is also pretty grainy. But to just play and relax, it was perfect. We even had a local come by with some cold beer for $5 a bottle and he took the empties. The rocks here are pretty spectacular so bring your camera. Also there is NO bathroom or facilities so bring bottle water.

The Pirate night was a lot of fun and I was surprised to see how many people dressed up. I felt a little underdressed. I did not go to the show, but enjoyed the fireworks. They have the Disneyland turkey legs at the buffet after the show.

All in all I felt it was a good cruise. The cost with the KSF was about the same as any other MR cruise in an inside cabin. If we were to pay for the kids, I would have not gone. The free soda is a huge benefit, as well as bringing on your own liquor. I felt the service was good, but I was expecting a little bit more since it was Disney. We have had much worse service on Norwegian but better on Celebrity. The waiters seemed to be overwhelmed and I hated to keep asking for water and drink refills, but they do a good job. Our stateroom host was very good. I really appreciated the adult only areas, they really police that. The adult pool is truly wonderful. The Goofy and the Mickey Pool were pretty busy all the time. If you love Disney you will love this cruise. If you love to cruise, you will like this cruise.

I just wanted to post a quick note and say that my group does not have a lot of picky eaters! There were eight of us total, 4 adults and 4 children ages 1-14 and we looked at this as an opportunity to try new things. Unfortunately this kind of backfired. The plays were not bad and Pirate night was fun, my whole group dressed up, but I still feel like I was waiting for something to happen, I just do not know what.

Hi everyone!

We didn't have a chance to meet either (my Aspergers kid was having a meltdown at the cruise meet time!) but we had a great time.

We actually rebooked as well for the MR cruise next year- on 4/1. We booked 2 cabins- one for me and my DF (we will be getting married in Hawaii the week before the cruise alone) and a cabin for my best friend and my kids (she will be their nanny). That way my kids get a vacation, we aren't away from them for two full weeks and everyone has a good time!

We had such a great time in the ports. My DF and I did the Outdoor Adventure in PV, we went to Medano Beach in Cabo day 1, and did the San Jose city tour the second day. The tour was alright, the great weather kinda made up for it. lol.

We loved our stateroom host (Troy) and our asst server who was new (Damian). Our sever Chris was just ok. And we never even saw our head server!

Food was ok- AP was good, as well as Tritons but PC was just so so the two times we ate there. We also did Palo brunch and dinner (both fantastic!!!).

I've seen so many mixed reviews on the MR cruises so far and I'm glad it lived up to our expectations from our first cruise

Just had to mention that we had the same servers and had similar feeling about them both! Chris was just okay - he tried but he seemed a bit rushed. Damian, on the other hand, actually seemed like he enjoyed what he was doing. On the first night, at AP, he saw that my DD was falling asleep right before the show so he made that extra effort to keep her entertained. He was darling. On Pirate night he came and got her to lead the parade through the dining room. I think my 4 year old developed her first crush right then and there! As for the head server, Tomas, we didn't see him until the 3rd night, but he somehow knew what table we were at right away and remembered it every night after that. He stopped by and made hats and little napkin creatures for the girls.

We had a really good time on this trip. My husband has rebooked for next year - possibly moving it to an AK trip once they release dates - but I'm now toying with the idea of going to WDW instead. We live 20 minutes from DL...but WDW is a whole other experience! And my DH could hit the Harry Potter theme park as well...
Only time will tell at this point!

Last June we did a 4nt cruise (our first DCL) and we did 2 days of DTD before the cruise, then a whole week of parks after (including Harry Potter at Universal- we went a week after it was open!). It was really amazing, but very tiring. I only regret going alone with my 2 kids- it was a lot of work for me!

So funny that you found Chris and Damian the same as we did. Chris really was rushed all the time- he talked so fast! Damian did magic tricks for the kids, and on the last night when my DS who never once ordered dessert said he wanted "nothing" (nicely of course), Damian brought out a plate with the word "nothing" written in choc sauce. It was cute
