I found this on youtube - it's from Malta where someone filmed the ship coming in, during the day and leaving. You can see the cannons at the end from their perspective. I tried to edit the video I took but I need to install the software as it is an HD video and none of the programs we have can handle it.

Love the trip report, and your photos are fantastic! I'd love to know what kind of camera you took on the trip--we're camera shopping now for our upcoming Med cruise, and seeing your photos is making me all the more excited to find a great camera!

Wow, thanks for the video!!! Loved the canons...what a send off. And always a tear in the eye when the Magic blows it's horn...

I have a Sony HX1 I don't really know much about photography and I have found it very easy to use, I'm slowly exploring all the settings

Next up lunch

Everything we had was grow and/or made on the farm!

The dining area had walls but was not fully enclosed, this was the view on my right



2 litres of wine between 7 of us



DH couldn't help but sing Yo Ho while waving it around

Then for dessert lemon cake with limoncello



This was what was left of the wine

We got to try the limoncello

I think this was just for decoration but I thought it was cool

We walked quite a way

We were given these radio thingies that you plug a head phone (which they also give you) so we could hear the guide, we were on our way to Pompeii







We get to Pompeii and are led around to the entrance



You can just about make out Mount Versuvius in the background



Some fresco's





They are constantly uncovering and and restoring things







We're still not through the gates yet but this is where you walk up when you go through - it is quite steep



The cobble stones, all the roads were made of this



It's incredible what survived



This gives you an idea of the scale, the large map on the left is indicated by the red square on the smaller map on the right









The roads would be covered by human and animal waste so for people to cross they put in steping stones, but the horses and carriages still had to go along the road so the made gaps for the wheels!



Later on we found some larger stones and I thought we should do an Abbey Road tribute



You can tell what was original and what had been restored

You can imagine how grand this must have been in its time



As you can see from the colour of the sky the storm clouds were coming in







There were some locked off areas







































They had drains!

Yes as we were walking around quite quickly I just left it on auto. I did try some of the other settings when I had a bit more time.

I didn't get my camera out in the rain but it stopped soon enough.



























This sign explains that this is not suitable for children and those easily offended. Also the number of people allowed in at one time.

I won't post the graphic pics but they are like a menu! This was a place for travellers (as Pompeii had a good trade system) to er 'unwind'

Each 'room' had a different picture above it, here is one of the rooms



Back outside













We walked around to another entrance/exit. This tree was awesome!





It looked as though there were a couple of houses here with a garden
