A day around the Poly pool sounds like it is out of the question from what I have read here. A waterpark is a great idea if you like waterparks. I personally have done it all when kids were small and wasting an entire park day is not for me.
I even rented a cabana for the little ones for one day while we are there. Any thoughts on this?
We specifically asked in 2010 if friends could join us at the Poly pool in July and the CM's said sure. You just have to ask. There are no wristbands at the Poly that I have ever seen - those only come into play at the cabanas. Unless things have changed since we were there!

That's incorrect as of this year. The Poly now issues wristbands poolside to all resort guests. We were just there in May, and they were blue. A castmember circulates poolside and distributes them.

Does that mean that DVC members can't Pool Hop to the Poly anymore? Or do we just have to show our DVC card and ask for a wrist band? Poly is still on the last pool hopping list I saw. I just knew we can't hop to BLT pool, Uzima Pool and the Stormalong Bay unless of course we're staying there. What's the deal?

No, it's still permitted there as long as pool hopping isn't blacked out for DVC members staying on a DVC reservation at a DVC resort through MS.

Also when looking at the booking restrictions for the Contemporary Cabanas it does not say you need to be staying there in order to reserve one.
http://contemporaryresort.net/cabana.html
Last year, for my birthday, we rented a cabana at the Grand Floridian. We were staying at the Contemporary.

They never told us until we got to the cabana on the appointed day and time, that we were not supposed to rent one unless we were staying there.

The lifeguard let us stay, but all the cast members (bar tenders, room service people that brought food we ordered etc) made us feel like second class citizens because we were not staying at the resort.

The funny thing was, we checked with our concierge at the Contemporary, before we headed over there, to find out if there were drinks or snacks provided with the rental. He called the GF and then told us the fridge had drinks but we needed to bring our own snacks. You would have thought that at that point maybe they would have told us we were not supposed to rent at the GF because we were staying at the Contemporary.

Your right that when the Cast Member called over for you they should have said you need to be staying at the Grand Floridian to rent their Cabana. Although since you reserved the Cabana over there I am sure you mentioned that you were staying at the Contemporary and who ever reserved it for you did it without any problems.

Did you also happen to know about the Contemporary Cabanas and if so why didn't you reserve them over there? As Contemporary guests I am sure the Cast Members who attend to them wouldn't have treated you like the ones at the Grand Floridian did.

I don't want to muddy the waters (haha) here, but about the DVC members/renting points thing:

In Spring of 2008, we (non-DVC members) rented points and stayed at OKW. From check-in to check-out we were treated as though we WERE DVC members, our KTTW cards even said DVC member on them. We didn't pool hop because we had no time, but it was explained at the desk when we checked in that we could if we wanted to (but not SAB) as DVC members.

Has this changed? Are non-DVC members staying on points handled differently now? Or were we just the lucky recipients of a happy mistake? I'm interested in a clarification.

It has changed. Also when members go to pool hop you are suppose to show your Member card, which a renter would not have.

Also the member is suppose to let DVC know that you were a renter, not a guest.

Just got back yesterday from 10 days at AKV & BCV.

We are DVC members & were staying on points at both resorts. The KTTW cards no longer state "DVC Member" on them (even for us members). So to prove you are a member, you need to present your blue member card.

As a side note, I saw more people trying to get in (without having KTTW cards proving they were guests of Y&BC) at the SAB entrance by Beaches & Cream, than I ever have before. We always get one of those umbrella tables right there by the entrance, so I saw & heard people all day long.

People were getting turned away right & left. Oh, & some of the excuses...just hilarious!! Those cast members were NOT letting anyone in.

That was an error on the part of the CM explaining stuff to you. The member you rent from is required to notify Member Services that they have received compensation from your to use the reservation. Thus, you are not a guest of the member.

Since you compensated the member and are not a guest of the member (no compensation paid to the member to be a guest), you are not entitled to any DVC perks or benefits other than staying in a great villa at a good price. You still get all the Disney resort guest benefits like using WDW transportation, access to EMH and ME, ability to send your package back to your resort instead of having to carry them.

I'm glad to hear they are cracking down on pool hoppers. It really is tacky, if it isn't one of your DVC perks. However, I think you owe it to us to post some of the more creative excuses you heard given. I know I'm very curious.

That's a very fine distinction and I think that you made it clear. The one exception is members renting/borrowing points from members. We do that. But we're still members and it doesn't matter on whose points we're staying. For instance, a couple of times we rented points from another member and combined them with our own to complete the length of our stay. Whether we put the points in our own account, or transferred our points to the other party's account (because theirs were not transferrable as they were banked) and reserved the reservation on the other party's membership... we're still members staying on points.

I really don't see the point in pool hopping most of the time. There just isn't enough time usually. We've pool hopped to the Grand Floridian to visit with friend's staying there (since we could hop and they couldn't), but that pool isn't anything special. We now have BLT points, and are planning next year to stay at BLT, but I probably would want to pool hop if possible to Saratoga (my other home resort) because I just like the quiet pool over there.
