Strategy for 7DMT with no fast pass?

If you are unable to get a FP for 7DMT, what is the best strategy for doing the ride? Is rope drop crazy? Is later in the day better?

According to Josh over at easywdw.com: he recommends riding it just before park closing if you don't have a FP. The only way to avoid a long wait in the morning is to arrive very early before RD in order to be at the very front of the crowd as they walk the rope back.

In early June, we were able to ride twice during the last half hour of operation (11:30 pm). The posted wait time was 80 minutes, but the actual wait was 20 the first time and 10 the 2nd trip.

We rode with FP a few weeks ago. Since you cut right to the front by the carts you miss the interactive queue, which has some games to pass the time.

Ride it during MNSSHP at fireworks time. We had a 5 minute wait and got to ride while fireworks were going off overhead. Awesome!
