OT: Plantar wart

I've been googling and cannot find an answer and this is the only message board I visit so, here goes...

My DD has a Bday party to attend tomorrow at a gymnastics club and I just noticed she has a plantar wart on the bottom of her foot. They cannot wear socks or shoes in the gym - barefeet only. I do not want her to spread this to her friends. Although, she probably picked it up from one of her friends!! Would liquid bandage be an acceptable way to keep it covered? I think a bandaid or piece of ducktape will just fall right off.

Any suggestions? I thought maybe someone here has a little gymnast (and maybe this is a common occurance) and has a suggestion for me. I know I've read warts are common among swimmers, too. I guess it's even more difficult to keep covered in a pool!

Any advice is appreciated!

Well, not a gymnast mom but a dance mom, and it is very common and we have dealt with it a few times. We always use Duct tape, it holds great. I don't know how the liquid bandage would work, sorry, but wanted to tell you the Duct tape holds really well. (Aslo holds in the pool. My girls have had to cover them for swimming lessons and as long as the foot was dry when it went on it would hold through lessons.)

Sports tape would also work well. I use it alot when I was in karate to keep form getting blisters on the bottom of my feet from the gym floor.

Don't have any solutions, but wanted to say a big THANK YOU for being so thoughtful and responsible about this -- a couple summers ago, we were at the pool and one of the moms was talking about how her kid currently had pink eye. Yikes!

DD had a plantar wart last year. Duct tape works great to get rid of it - it takes a LONG time but it works! We did use white athletic tape over it - we just put a small piece of duct tape over the wart and then wrapped the foot in athletic tape. Holds for a 3 hour practice and brings a few less questions than wrapping the whole foot in duct tape! Just putting a piece on the bottom of the foot doesn't work for gymnastics - it comes off really quickly!

Thanks for all the help! Think I'm going to try the duct tape with the sports tape. They only have 1 hour in the gym, so it sounds like it will work! Thanks again!

My dd was just seen at the Dr. the other day with 3 places on her feet. He said they were planters warts. Yikes, we have never had these and I was just wondering since I saw this thread- what is the best way to get rid of them? Her dr. put some freezing stuff on them in the office, and sent us home with some acid gel. He said to put it on a few times a day and come back in a month. My dd has been keeping them covered with gauze and bandaid tape. Should she be using duck tape instead? What else should we be doing? Im a very concerned since we leave for Disney in 2 months. She is having a hard time walking on them now. The dr. said one is quite big. Wish we hadnt let it go so long, but we didnt know what they were. She had foot surgery last May (double bunionectomy) and that kept her off her feet until August. (She had one done in May and the other in June) Recovery for that was long and painful and I cant believe we have this to deal with now. Thanks for any info you can give on planters warts

I wouldn't duct tape them if the doctor has already treated them. Duct tape is an "at home" method that apparently has worked for lots of people instead of freezing them. If I were you, I'd just keep them covered as much as possible.

I had one once a long time ago. It was painful and the doctor had to dig it out in his office. I couldn't walk for a week after that - the hole was huge! I hope the freezing and the gel helps your daughter. I'm taking my DD in on Thursday (she already has an appt for something else) and I'm hoping they can freeze hers as well. I'm too impatient to treat it myself and too afraid I'll get one in the mean time! I think some people are more susceptible than others.

Wondering,If you put the acid on the wart do you still need to keep it covered?If seems to make a liquid band-aid type cover on it,My sons feet are so damp that a bandaid won't stick I did the duct tape thing same problem ,Not sure how to keep or even get his feet dry?

We used vinegar to get rid of Dd's wart. It was really deep and nasty. She didnt tell me it was there until it hurt to walk. I knew going to the doctor was not going to be pleasant. On the budget board they talked about vinegar so we gave it a try.

We soaked a papertowel in vinegar each night and I would medical tape it to her foot. Then we put a plastic shopping bag under her foot to keep the drips off the bed. She would sleep with it that way. It took almost 2 weeks but then fell out during her shower one night. I was so happy for her but the best part was its been over a year and no warts! They didnt come back, I had heard that once you got them they would keep popping up.

We actually went to the podiatrist to have our DD's plantar wart treated since her ped doesn't do it. He treated it by scraping it in office, applying acid AND having us do the duct tape at home. The duct tape was his recommendation!

So I'd have no problem doing both. The duct tape keeps it moist and allows more layers of skin to peel off, which gets to the base of the wart so it goes away.
