What is your average cost for a solo trip.
I am thinking of going on my first solo trip in December of 2014. However, I will be in college, so I won't have much money.
I'd like to keep the cost around 1000-1500. Is this possible? What do you all budget for a solo trip? It would probably be a four day trip

I have to fly at least one way. If I end up at Eckerd College next year, I will only be flying back to Oregon at the end of the trip. But I'm hoping to be somewhere in California, so if that's the case I will have to fly both ways.

If you go to allears you can check out the menus (http://allears.net/menu/menus.htm) and plan the dining part of your budget from there.

something is badly wrong with the dis reservation.
it was telling me a 4 day ticket (no options) was $717......now sorry but that is just crazy. my PAP was only $423 w/taxes.... it also has the room rates wrong - or Disney has higher them too w/o telling anyone. anyway alot depends on your plane ticket - look now May will due and give an estimation of how much that will be. here are some sites http://www.orbitz.com/ http://www.expedia.com/ if you are lucky enough to have a discount airlines http://www.southwest.com/ http://www.jetblue.com/ would go with one of them - if you don't know - then you can ask on the transportation board - they will probably have others for you to look at http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16 sorry can't be more help but right now Disney system makes no sense at all.

If you stay and eat offsite that will keep your costs down.

#1. your vacation is more than a year out so no special help from WDW reservations. . .they usually have room rates at much less than a year out. #2 Your flight will take up the majority of your budget unless you plan on that being a separate part of your vacation budget. #3 Its doable even with all that but its going to be tough and require discipline on spending. . .
I couldn't do it. . .just sayin.

my solo trips are generally under a $1,000 - drive down, have DVC (so no hotel bills), studios so eat in the room, have a great discount rate w/dvc for PAP so tickets too.
you could consider renting DVC points?

A plane flight to the West Coast is going to eat up a huge portion of that $1000-$1500. You can do 4 days at a value with a four-day base ticket and eat for under $1000. But to stay longer or pay for an airline ticket - might send you above $1500.
Oh - and December can be a a good time to rent points from a DVC member. I've been lucky with renting some cheap points for a studio at that time - brings down the studio price to the same range as a value resort.

I also flew down on Airtran since they had a great sale and used Magical Express and Disney's transportation only. I stayed at POR with a room only discount. I could have spent even less if I had stayed at Pop Century which I considered. I ate at only a couple of TS restaurants, ate breakfast in the room with food I brought with me in my checked suitcase and added some fruit I bought in the food court. Instead of a full lunch, on the days I had TS booked for dinner, I ate a couple of snacks for lunch like popcorn and a mickey bar to save money (yeah - that's my story and I'm sticking to it. ). Other days for lunch or dinner, I would order food without the extras like no fries since I get tired of those anyway. I do have an AP though so I didn't have to buy tickets. I spent 400.00 on souveniers which was more than the cost of a 4 day basic ticket so if you deduct the 400.00 from my above total, add in the 273.00 for the 4 day basic ticket right now, you are still under 1,500.00. I hope you get to go - Disney World is fun solo. |
