NY to DL-- Ship stuff or pay to check bags?

We are staying at the GCV next week, coming in from NY... but we will we flying in to San Francisco first to visit family for 3 days and then we are flying down to Long Beach to stay a DLR for 4 nights. We are a family of 4 with 2 DDs (3 and 6 years old).

Now that the airlines are charging for luggage (50 one way for 2 bags!) and we will have 3 total legs of our trip, I am contemplating shipping some of our things to GCV. I've done this before when we stayed at DW, but I am not sure about this one...

Has anyone done this before? What about shipping it back out from the resort?

Ideas? Advice?

I might try really hard to pack for the carryons! Seems either way it will be expensive to ship or check bags! Maybe try for 1 bag!

Have you thought about joining the airlines club for your trip. Most of the club waiting rooms have refreshments, and office work areas, along with the ability to take extra luggage at no additional cost. Who ever joins can put the extra luggage in their name. Should you not want to leave your family you are not required to be in the club--- just join. You must be a frequent flyer of the airline to use this service and each airline is called something different. As not all airlines have a club at each hub you then can use a shared club -- Such as Alaska Air shares with Delta now-- I think with all the airline trades and buyouts I am not for sure. Hope this helps I know it would not cost 150 x2 so $300 to join So anything less would be good news. Hope this helps

Thank you for the advice/suggestions. We ended up packing really light and doing laundry once we got to our 1 bedroom at GCV (which was the half-way point of our trip).
